Shooting in the BART parking lot
    Scott H.

The West Oakland BART station is a convenient necessity. From here it is only 5 minutes to San Francisco. Parking after hours and on the weekends is free, but there is a very reasonable chance your car will be broken into. The station is dirty. For example there is a pigeons nest directly over the up escalator for the westbound platform. It has been up there for years, and pigeons defecate on customers coming up the escalator. Station agents at this station do absolutely nothing to protect or help customers. Oddly, customers are rarely harassed by aggressive panhandlers at the tickets machines. On a daily basis you can find a ranting screaming person on the platform. It's not unusual to find someone vomiting or shooting heroin around the station. If you call Bart police they are very responsive. The BART police dispatcher does their best to get you help. Police officers do their best to get on scene quick. There are nice bicycle cages outside of this station. Do not ever lock a bicycle up without using one of these secure cages. Your bike will almost certainly be torn apart and stolen. I live in West Oakland and I will occasionally take a lime scooter to this station. That's an extremely convenient option. This is a very convenient station for access to San Francisco International Airport for those who live in West Oakland. It's usually easy to get Uber or Lyft from the station to your West Oakland destination.

    Last stop before SF!

Holy smokes! I check in like 2 times and now I'm the Duke! Well then, let's review! The train rolls smoothly through the station. This stop is one of my favorites because it means that I'll be going under the bay at over 70MPH! Try that at commute time! I rest my case!

If coming from San Francisco, BART's West Oakland station is the first station you'll stop at after crossing the Bay. All four lines (red, yellow, blue, green) coming out of San Francisco go through West Oakland. By default, it's probably the busiest BART station in the East Bay. This is a popular and relatively convenient commute option, compared to other BART stations in Oakland, for those who live in Oakland or elsewhere in the East Bay and work in San Francisco. There's plenty of on-site surface lot parking as well as tons of bike racks. Once on a train (you can hop on any one bound for SF), it only takes about 7 minutes to get to San Francisco (Embarcadero station) and it costs only $3.75, one-way, at most. Trips to and from San Francisco International Airport take about 40 minutes and cost $9.90 one-way. Not bad. This is a pretty simple station with two elevated side platforms, one for "outbound" trains heading towards Richmond, Antioch, Dublin/Pleasanton, or Fremont/Warm Springs/South Fremont and one for "inbound" trains going into San Francisco. I believe there's only one restroom (unisex) and it's located on the ground level at the bottom of the escalators. I wouldn't use it unless you have an emergency. West Oakland station is bigger than the other BART stations I've used in Oakland including Rockridge, Lake Merritt, and Fruitvale. From a visual perspective and condition-wise, it's about the same as the other Oakland stations -- not very remarkable. It's old and not the cleanest. In general, all of the BART stations and trains could use some upgrading and modernization. As far as getting you from point A to point B, however, the system still gets the job done on a mostly reliable and consistent basis.

Do not park outside the parking lots... Your car WILL get broken into

Do not try to find free parking outside of the parking lot... Your car will get broken into. Most of the time I park in one of the surrounding parking lots. I tried to park on magnolia ONCE to save $7... After work my car, and all the cars around me were broken into. It's not worth it. That area is bad. Also, if you do get your car broken into, please report it to the police. Looking at the crime maps of the area show no car burglaries, so people don't know how bad it is

This is the most convenient Bart station there is. I live in the neighborhood and i love being able to walk to this Bart station and be in the city 10 minutes later! This station has an outdoor platform, so prepare for the elements. There are constantly trains whippin through this station, I never really wait more then 5 mins for a train. There are never any big crowds and I haven't ever seen any suspicious activity. There are also bathrooms and parking is never a problem. People tend to really bag on West Oakland, let it be told that I am a white male and have been walking to and from this station at all times of the day and night and have only encountered people saying hello to me. West Oakland is on the up and up and this Bart Station is a great addition to a neighborhood on the rise.

For a room advertised as accessible and at a price of over $600 for a 4 hour ride, this level of disrepair is inexcusable. Also, the ticket was advertised as including meals, but there was no breakfast or snacks, and lunch was barely edible (reheated, stale food). Staff were kind, but the facilities and upkeep were not. For the price, this fell far short. I would not recommend booking an accessible room based on this experience. Save your money and just buy a coach ticket or better yet, just drive.

Did not use this visit. The kiosk/cafe that sells coffee/drinks was not opened, but they have vending machines for water/sodas and snacks. Did not use. The train was a little late, but we were adequately informed by the platform signage. No issues getting on the train. Coming back from Sacramento, the train was late and we didn't have time to even go into the station. It was directly to the bus to connect back to SF. Very quick boarding. And if you have larger luggage, they store it under the bus. Efficient service. Located on Horton and 59th Street.

I noticed not that many times to choose from going to Davis from Sacramento. We missed the 2 pm. We had to wait almost an hour and half until the next one. We bought our tickets then realized no one told us where we actually get onto the train. Our friend went back in..at the ticket booth the man that helped us was very nice and very helpful. He gave the kids coloring books and pins. Finally on the train it was bumper then I remembered, moved around a lot reminded me being on boat. Can not have bags or luggage out on tables or seats. I think we got called out, but we weren't sure since it was over the load speaker. We had a small bag it had food and snacks in it. We put into the over head. We went to check out the food car. So the kids could feel what it was like to walk from car to car..the food car was mostly over priced snacks. Canned, bottled drinks and packs of chips or nuts. When we arrived in Davis. They said over the loud speaker they do not stop for to long you need to get off so get ready. We couldn't open the over head to get our bag back out. It was stuck. Other passengers helped us open it, they said you really need to pull it hard. Once off the train the Davis train station and building looked so old and run down..so sad looking compared to Sacramento station. We didn't know no one would be there to buy return tickets. But they do offer more times leaving back to Sacramento. We purchased online. We had many people asking if they were in the right place while we were waiting. When checking in, the ladies at the counter were chatting it up while there was a line of people. Once on the train (booked lower level seats for my elderly mother and I), come to find out there were no seats available in the lower level although we paid for that seating. The people that assist on the train couldn't do enough for you, really amazing people. They checked everyone's ticket on lower level and appeared everyone had lower level seating. I called Amtrak to make a complaint and was sent to customer relations. I spoke to Kara; she stated she checked the schedule and there was absolutely no way that could've been oversold because there were open seats. I told her they had everyone on specific train cars based on the area they were going to, and was told there were no other seats on other cars as it was a holiday weekend and full. I asked her if there was any way to be compensated and she said no there was nothing she could do but send a message to corporate; no idea if she'll really do it. ‍ There was another gentleman behind me with a son that had congestive heart failure, who also purchased lower level seats, and they also had to go up to the upper level, it was a seating DISASTER!!! The icing on the cake was there are no restrooms on the upper level of the train. So when my elderly mother had to use the restroom, she had to go up and down the stairs in that tight stairwell while the train was in motion; completely unsafe and dangerous for an 89yr-old lady. So save yourself the time as it's five hours by train from Sacramento to Reno; just drive, not worth taking Amtrak. It was a terrible experience for my elderly mother and myself!!
