I hope the owners see this and upgrade the look of this food, because I order from so many Cuban bakeries and this is by far the worst or one of the worst looking ones and for 19$. The bread is stale, the fries soggy and bland, the sausages look very skinny but at least they taste ok, and at the very least the cafe con leche is not so bad...i did not visit the location but this looked so awful that I had to write something about it so no one goes expecting anything great for this price. I came to Munchies Cafe 2 for my uncle's 21st Birthday, 49th Edition this past Friday night. I'll admit when I first got the invite, I was a little surprised since the name has cafe in it. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got there, since it was a full restaurant with table service and live music. At first, it was just one gentleman with a keyboard and speaker setup. As the evening wore on, it was a full jam session of guaganco, bolero, cha-cha and other types of Cuban music my uncle talked about from his clubbing days. One thing I liked is how the musician would say a little bit about the song before playing. Apparently, they have the live music every Friday. The food was tasty classic Cuban. Our party had 4 dinner plates to choose from, besides thin cut crisp plantain chip (mariquitas) appetizer with a garlicky dipping sauce and Pico De gallo and generously buttered Cuban bread. My main course was a nice helping of moros (black beans and rice), sweet plantains (maduros) and a grilled piece of chicken with more Pico and grilled chopped onions. The Pico on the chicken was different than other Cuban restaurants and I liked it Other plates served for our party included the famous lechon and vaca frita (shredded beef). Service was very pleasant, and the owner came by to wish Tio Happy Birthday, and even got most of the restaurant serenading Happy Birthday en Español. It's definitely a nice little Cuban spot for a tasty dinner. I can almost see a septugenarian Pitbull saying Dale here. read more

Ohhhhh I wanted to like this place. It's a usual spot for many of my co-workers since it's conveniently located at the plaza next door so I walked in with high hopes. I immediately noticed that party of three would not fit....they have tables along the wall that are good for only two people and the rest is bar seating. Since most people sit about a stool apart, there was no space for us three to sit together. One nice lady noticed and moved over one to make the room for us...kudos to the stranger for her kindness! I ordered my mamey shake along with a steak sandwich and couldn't help but pay close attention to the customer service as my friends ordered theirs and the end result: very poor customer service. The server was not friendly, not smiling, annoyed and just seemed plain old sick of her life as a Munchies waitress. On a positive note, food came out lightning fast! It wasn't the best steak sandwich I've had. The onions were not cut correctly it seemed. They were thick and chunky throughout the sandwich. I found myself having to pick them out since they were not sauteed in with the steak like your usual sandwiches. It was just raw onion pieces- long chunks. Maybe some people prefer that, I was not much of a fan. So I finish my sandwich along with my shake and we all decide we are going to do a dessert ...problem is they never come around to ask. We were literally sitting at the bar and the ladies are walking back and forth but no attention to the three cute girls sitting patiently. We finally decided we'd eat at the bakery next door and would ask for the check. Waited and waited and waited and waited some more. Check finally arrived- we said "Peace Out" and moonwalked our way out of the establishment. Sooooo I noticed alot of men come in here and seem to get a little better service. I used to love coming to this place to get a quick bite to eat especially breakfast. However, as of late the prices are more expensive than the local competitors for basically the same dish. Additionally, on many occasions, early mornings 7:30-8am, they do not have morning potatoes to offer with breakfast. Such a shame that they have priced themselves so far from the competition. I found other establishments like Palacio de Jugos who offers similar breakfast at half the price. Unless and until they make changes to pricing I do not believe I will return. read more

The croquettas are 10x better than the ones next door at the Pinecrest Bakery (gross) They might actually be homemade but im not positive. They are thicker than the usual ones and the flavor is a little different than most "party" croquettas. The buttered toast is the best! I had 2 today; one at Latin America on 107th & Coral Way (bland, cold, no butter) and one HERE which was DELICIOUS; hot, pressed thin and with plenty of butter. They've got Lotto, Scratch Offs, Beer, Wine, Empanadas, Croquettas, coffee, fresh OJ and restaurant food too (surprisingly) Its in the inside corner of the plaza with the McDonalds, TD Bank and Winn Dixie (to the left of the Home Depot) Come in, sit at the counter (or a little table to the side), watch the Auto Auction on Fox Sports, have a coffee and a sandwich. You never have to worry about hunting someone down when you need something. On their menu,you'll find all your typical Cuban food. One of my faves is the bistec de pollo a la plancha (grilled chicken) It's so tender, juicy and full of flavor! I stopped by to have a colada and 4 ham croquetas. They said they were out of croquetas and they were frying up a "fresh" batch. After waiting 6-7 minutes they brought my croquetas, but when I bit into the first one it was ice cold. Not room temperature cold, but right out of the refrigerator cold. I told the waitress it was was cold she apologized and took them back. After 5 minutes she brought 4 new croquetas. When I bit into the first one it was as ice cold as the previous one. Sadly have to say they used to deliver a cantina to my mother in law (she's 87) and when she cancelled it back in July, Munchies went in to her credit card 2 months later and took another $48 payment. This then triggered an overdraft in her bank. When we called them to advise, they took 2 weeks to credit back her account and the owner claimed they weren't responsible for the overdraft charge!!! The overdraft charge of $35 is a lot to an 87 year old. It would have almost paid another full week of food for her! Very bad business practice. read more

We decided to stay despite that shitty answer. We decided to order breakfast and made sure they didn't charge us the extra $1 that they do if you order breakfast after 12. The server was so rude and didn't bring us our coffee until the end. When I finally got my steak and eggs with a side of hashbrown, the steak was cut in half and there was yolks in my egg whites. There was FIVE tater tots that were a green color since they were clearly the ones left from the buffet. I've gone several times on a Friday morning for breakfast, I usually get the "Muy Temprano" breakfast it's a good breakfast for a cheap price. I think the cafe con leche is excellent and the service is quick and simple. The croquetas are tasty but not the best I've had.
