The quality of the food is very much similar to all the other indian restaurants that are good so not sure they charge 2x the price. Maybe for making some non-creative things like naan pizza - people just want quality and it missed the mark. 3. Service is blah - not what you expect for charging 30-40$ entrees - seems so lazy! It's fine - do what you want - just don't expect return customers.

Definitely a standout starter. For our entrees, we ordered the Kokam Branzino and Shrimp Gassi, both served with basmati rice, and they were absolutely divine. The branzino was beautifully cooked with bright, balanced flavors, and the shrimp gassi was rich, comforting, and deeply satisfying. The ambiance was nice--warm and inviting--and while the service was okay, the food truly stole the show. This is the kind of place you return to for the flavors alone, and we'd happily go back again just for the meal.

I let our server know the whole meal would be vegan, and he said no problem. We went with chana masala, baingan bharta, mushroom matar, and aloo gobi. All perfectly spiced! Flavorful without setting your mouth on fire (Chatni gets it). They swapped naan for roti (vegan option) and brought out the food fast. I did ask for the chutney and crackers after the meal came out -- last time they served it first, so now I know to request it upfront. No biggie to me! Everything tasted authentic, you can tell they don't cut corners. The decor has that real Indian charm too; idols, warm colors, the whole vibe. It stayed quiet during lunch which was actually nice. And honestly, lunch for two adults and a kid in Montclair for $23? In this economy?? Wild. The food looked and smelled so good we dove right in before taking photos (no regrets). I'll 100% be back, either with my family or solo when I need a good, comforting meal. Chatni's officially in my Montclair rotation!

Not only do you get a chance to try a variety of regional Indian curries, but they also offer a Seasonal 'emu of specialty selections that you may not think to try. I like that they offer these innovative or socially selections so people can try the real tastes of India. Addie talk to selection is the QUALITY! They clearly use real, fresh ingredients because I had no discomfort after our meal, which tends to be common after eating at many Indian restaurants. I am my scientific proof; food quality is top notch! The service. All wait staff were friendly and kitchen ran like a smooth operation. Given that the restaurant is a small space, it becomes more essential that staff are knowledgeable and coordinated, as was the case here. Everyone was on their A game. Space is small but charming. In Upper Montclair but not at that busy intersection. Parking is on the street, metered. Not ideal but it is what it is. Overall, you definitely get a top quality experience here and this place is totally worth checking out.

When it comes to service, one is treated like you're their number one priority. I would suggest they install an awning to control the draft and the chill of winter.
