I love love their nigiri set which includes 7 fresh pieces of fish of your choice from their list + 6 pieces of small sake rolls (small salmon sushi wrapped in nori). Each nigiri piece is pre-seasoned with rice vinegar, soy sauce, and wasabi, which I really enjoyed. They also have seasonal fish that rotate on their menu! The fish at Mujiri was incredibly fresh, and the rice-to-fish ratio on every piece of nigiri was absolutely perfect--balanced, delicate, and clearly made with care. Each piece was so flavorful on its own that soy sauce wasn't even necessary. The space is small and intimate, which adds to the experience. You order directly from the chef, who prepares everything right in front of you. It felt personal and authentic--like being invited into someone's home for sushi. We also tried the sake flight, which was excellent. It offered a thoughtful progression of flavors, from dry to sweet, and paired nicely with our meal. The waiter was kind, made sure to check up on us often even on a busy night. Mujiri though is pricy, portions are quite small... not super filling. Staff is always super nice and it is super fun to chat with staff behind the counter as well as other customers at the bar, service is fast and you can see them make your food. Wow the sushi quality here was fantastic, especially for the price point. I really appreciated that the focus was on food, rather than having decor that draws influencers in for aesthetic pics. It was still so charming though! We started with the seaweed salad. It had large pieces of seaweed and even some red seaweed, which I've never had before! So refreshing and the perfect start to the meal. We also got the nigiri combo with chef's selection. I wish I knew every fish that we were served, but I think our selection included scallop and toro! Those were my favorites. The nigiri rice was well seasoned and the perfect texture, which really complemented the fresh fish! My last fave was the tuna handrolls. The layer of flavors was so delicious and I could have ordered 5 of the hand rolls, if I were rich haha. We also ordered the tamago, negihama, and tuna rolls. I started with the Sake flight at my brother's insistance. I only didn't like 2 of the 6 Sakes. One was stronger than I was in the mood for but the Drunken Whale Sake was a nice, soft sake that was easy to drink. We all loved the citrus sake (tasted like grapefruit) and my favorite was the lemon sake. Tasted like lemonade and sake. You could get drunk on this easily as it's a very smooth drink. These two were the cloudy sakes, something I had never had before. At this time they brought out a cup of pickled ginger and wasabi. We were enjoying munching on the pickled ginger while we waited on our food. I then had the Nigiri Combo, the chef's choice of 7 sushi pieces plus a roll. I loved every bit except one. So fresh and flavorful. The one I didn't like was still good, just a texture thing. I left feeling full but not stuffed. Came on a Wednesday night with no Rezy, got seated within 15 minutes of arriving. The staff were friendly and helpful. The ambiance is busy but not loud or noisy so you can still enjoy a conversation with your partner. Not great for big groups as it's a pretty small place, best suited for date night. Simple and easy to follow menu. The food doesn't disappoint. We ordered the Nigiri Combo and spicy tuna and maki. Excellent all around. I highly suggest trying the squid that is charred, easily the best part of the combo. I would order a plate of that on its own. The hostess was running around the whole time and she was clearly stressed; she greeted us and said it would be around 5 minutes, but we didn't get seated until 40 minutes later. The space is tiny. The space smelled a bit fishy (like duh it's a sushi restaurant) but in like an older fish sort of way. The $25 nigiri combo is very affordable! It comes with 7 nigiri and a chef's choice maki. We also got a hot sake to share. I got yellowtail, arctic char, ocean trout, amberjack, black snapper, scallop, and fatty tuna. The seared ones were my favorite. The sweet, butter-like scallop comes in as a close second. Luckily for me, I didn't get salmon (although it's my favorite) because I wanted to try the more unique options--the maki ended up being salmon! The items were pre-seasoned with wasabi and soy sauce flavor so you don't need to worry about dipping. I liked that the sake cups are tiny so we can cheers more often. During the Pandemic, I discovered a storefront with on "opening soon" vibe on San Pablo Avenue. I realized this was a new sushi spot, opening during such an unfortunate time for many restaurants. Fortunately for Mujiri, they had a niche: affordable, high-quality, omakase-esque to-go sushi. Still to this day, for $25, you get 7 pieces of different nigiri (you choose the seven from a list of different fish) and a maki roll, all presented on an aesthetically pleasing cedar box. Their rice is seasoned well and the fish is high quality. I was so happy stumbling on this gem back in 2020, located on the border of Oakland and Emeryville, and still love going back for more. They now offer indoor dining so you can splurge on as much nigiri and sashimi your stomach, and wallet, can handle, but the $25 nigiri combo is still one of the best sushi deals I've seen. My table ordered: - Nigiri Combo ($25) - Sashimi Combo ($35) All Chef's Choice and we got multiple plates of each. Each bite just melted in your mouth and it was so fresh. Each piece of fish was cut to perfection and bursted with flavor. You'd have to try it yourself because it was just top tier sushi. The rice in the nigiri is perfect and they already are pre-seasoned with soy sauce and wasabi so you don't need to dip them unless you want the extra sodium. You can also request to not add the pre-seasoning. The price may be on the steeper side, but I really feel it is worth it.
