This was my first time at this coffee/tea house and I loved it. I went here with a friend to check out their open mic night (which is on Tuesdays). I was so impressed by the overall experience. Upon arriving, one of the baristas showed me over to the tea bar and reviewed all of the teas with me and was very friendly. The tea itself was delicious! I have not had a flavor like it before! The atmosphere is super cute inside. And finally, the open mic was a very enjoyable experience. Sadly really gone down hill , I hadn't been here in quite awhile and I was out on a rainy day waiting for an appointment and went ordered the French Kiss which I'd had before in a nice big mug chocolate lined it's an over $8 coffee and my husband got tea and a scone . Take a look at the to go cup I got for my French Kiss, I complained but what I got was oh our prices have gone up. So basically that's what you get now for $8 so never again, my husbands tea was fine he got a pot so when I finished my small coffee I drank some of it , he also got a scone , it was hard as a rock . I don't know what all the fuss is about. I was underwhelmed. I ordered the "nitro" cold brew. Saw it coming out of the machine with a nice crema but as that rose to the top, I noticed the coffee liquid was the color of very weak tea. The flavor was no better. Tasted like water. Fortunately the barista accommodated me by replacing it. I opted for a cappuccino which was decent. Not as good as I could make myself (minus the artful foam) but it's all about taste. The Russian tea cake was dry and somewhat stale tasting, didn't come close to my mom's. Overall, drove 45 minutes to get here to meet a friend. It was a great meeting but would not return or recommend this place. If you're looking for a great tasting coffee experience, go to Starbucks. Perhaps this is more about the tea, which is not my thing but my friend said her "London Fog" was good. read more

The iced lavender cappuccino was one of the best drinks I've had at a coffee shop. I'll be getting that one again. The staff here is friendly and they have a lot of great choices. The only downside and the reason I didn't award five stars is that it lacks an accessible entrance. There is a step up to get into the establishment and no ramp. Be very careful with supporting this business. I too am in ownership of a very successful family business but the boy from the family owing this is very controlled and on a schedule from an abusive and controlling owner. The father fought for custody only to control his children even having them on schedules to exercise excessively and drink water on a schedule!! I've seen the schedule he has them on and this will go public again and again. His son came to my house with marks on his body and children services have been notified. Expect a house call Hass . They are watching you now. Your knowledge of tea flavors means nothing to the law and the marks you have put on your children's body's and souls. If I was your partner I would "alienate " my child from you too. read more

This place is pretty popular amongst the locals. It is very trendy and unique on its own. On both occasions I have seen what look like regulars sitting and reading or on laptops. So it has a very welcoming and enticing appearance. They have a unique offering in coffees and lattes and some treats. Like other reviewers commented this place does have something for everyone from teas to pour overs and a heap of flavor offerings. I tried one of each of the treats available and didn't like any of them. Though, if you are sticking to clean eating they may sound appealing to you. I had a banana muffin with wheat flour some peanut butter balls and another treat can't remember what it was but none of them gave me the desire to get them again. I got the fan favorite coffee at the suggestion of the barista she asked if I liked coffee taste which I do. I was so excited for this coffee but it was overpowered by sweetness that I could not taste the coffee. When I drank a few more sips it tasted like it didn't even have coffee in it although I saw her put the espresso shot in there. The only good thing I can say is the staff is super attentive and helpful and the coffee isn't bitter or burnt tasting. I will make a trip back to see what other coffees they offer that doesn't feel like instant toothache. read more

Oh my goodness. The one coffee I will get every single time I come here is the vanilla cloud. I moved to Illinois 6 years ago, and I'm back in akron visiting family, and I HAD to make a stop for the vanilla cloud latte because we don't have muggswigz in Chicago. I dream about this coffee. DREAM about it. I got my husband hooked on it too. But also since this one is in downtown canton you might meet some interesting people...there was a homeless man screaming outside yesterday when we went and he scared my kids so maybe don't bring young kids there. read more

I'm not sure how I haven't written a review of Muggswigz before now. I've been coming here since they opened in summer 2003, when Alex (the owner) was still often working behind the counter as a barista. Though I haven't lived in Canton in many, many years, this is always a stop when I'm in town visiting family. I don't have a "home" to return to in my hometown anymore, and Muggswigz has become that for me in some ways - a consistent place to land, even for a few hours, and a place that feels familiar. It's where I spent late summer evenings at open mic nights, it's where I studied or wrote during academic breaks while in grad school, it's where I took breaks from my mother's hospital room when she was sick, it's where I took my now-husband for a break the first time I took him home to meet my family. The coffee here is excellent. They have a robust menu with standard coffee and espresso drinks, as well as an eclectic listing of speciality drinks. Their selection of tea is incredible, and was really my introduction to high quality tea. My only real complaint is the dated decor and seating. Nothing has changed since summer 2003 (well, I think they removed a public-use computer and a couch). It looks and feels dated inside now instead of cozy, and could use a refresh. The walls are dark and the faux plants hanging from the ceiling have outlived their utility. I'd love to see a bright, sunny spot and a rebranding. I wax nostalgic about the space but it's really the coffee and people that make Muggswigz so special. Muggswigz is a joy for the Canton community, especially downtown, and I'm proud that I've been patronizing it as long as I have. I hope it sticks around for a long, long time as a place to land, especially for us Canton ex-pats. read more

A very cool atmosphere and very good service. The price is a bit high, but for the trendy coffee shop aura you can't beat it. It has an old relaxing, comfortable feel to the place with plenty of room for you to do school work, office work, or even conduct a small meeting, or group study, etc. I like visiting Muggswigz when I'm in downtown Canton and just hang out there for a minute. I'm sure I like it better than the BIG coffee chain, this place has a local feel that can't be beat. read more

Friendly coffee shop with smooth delicious coffee and tea (sweet treats looked mmmazing) Amble inside seating (high ceilings with random decor including fake leaves and fun orange and yellow colors...good lighting too) some chairs and tables outside as well but not as comfortable. The iced peach green tea was well flavored and a large size for a good price but too much ice and not enough tea!(For medium coffee and an iced tea it came out to $5) My friend got the mocha cookie crunch and it was sweet, crunchy, delicious but very heavy...like a meal replacement on size and calories! The lumberjack chilled had an almond flavor to it. Sweeter than the mocha cookie but tasted lighter/less thick. The lumberjack hot was a hit too. We were all pleased with the drinks and atmosphere. Note: if you dont like your drink they kindly and gladly replace it. (My first iced tea was the muggswigz red iced tea and the red tea base reminded me of cough syrup). Anyhoo, I enjoyed the light music in the background too which allowed for conversations to take place and an uplifting atmosphere. Great place for groups or solo adventures. read more

Cozy cafe as soon as you walk inside. Majority of customers were occupied on their laptops. The menu is hand written with colorful chalk, the main boards behind the counter includes their selection of tea, coffee and specialty coffees. The counter is filled with a variety of tasty desserts. The server was friendly and asked if I needed help to decide. I opted for a specialty coffee called fuzzywig, espresso, vanilla, caramel and whipped cream. Bit pricey at $5.50. It was served in a huge styrofoam cup, which looked like 3 full cups of coffee. It wasn't as warm as I like, the whipped cream and caramel was decedant. Overall a nice gourmet coffee and very instagramable. Not sure how I passed up on trying the peanut butter balls. They looked rich and gooey. My next trip back to Ohio! read more

I was very curious about this place after having read about it on the 'net. Purportedly a 'real' coffee shop in Canton, OH complete with Latte Art and retail La Pavoni's. I had to go. I went. It was... ... ... a really cool store with good, but not outstanding coffee. I did have a nice little design in my latte, though. One has to bear in mind that I'm comparing it to all the amazing coffee places in America. Working your way downtown to Muggswigz, especially later in the evening for one of their poetry readings, live mic nights, or the like, one can't help but feel as though you're entering another world. Downtown Canton is definitely not "alive" in the sense that other segments of town are. It's pretty run-down, and although there are some decent restaurants, mom & pop stores, and chain hotels hanging on, that area of the city has been on the decline for years. It's an unfortunate thing, as the area has so much cultural promise. Maybe that's one of the main reasons I keep rooting for Muggswigz, and grin every time I hear it continue to be referenced as surviving. The shop is tucked into the side of one of the hulking brick structures downtown, and from its windows you're well-aware of the deterioration of the city. Muggswigz on the inside, however, is different. There's life here, moving in colors and flavors and tea options and assorted furniture and artwork and an overall vague sense of c'mon-and-be-a-part-of-this, kid. If I was in high school, lived in Canton, detested the whole jock mentality, and bought into the whole idea of supporting independent coffee, arts, and culture, I'd probably spend a lot of time here. The coffee itself isn't the best, but it's not bad, either. On an aesthetic level, I appreciate the fact that they have their own branding, which extends to their drinkware. All in all, Muggswigz is a pretty promising, cool little place. If you live in Canton at all, get your butt down there and support local attempts at maintaining and enhancing cultural opportunity. read more

Just moved back to NE Ohio and met a friends at Muggswigz to catch up. With a funky, Berkeley feel Muggswigz has its own blends and traditional favorites. It also boasts a large loose leaf tea selection. A large conference table make it good for those wanting to work and lots of tables and chairs for those that want to chat. Wish they had comfy chairs to settle in and read with a good cup of coffee or tea. The day we went it was raining so I opted for a earl grey. Served in pot so the loose leaf tea can steep appropriately. I also had a pastry that was pretty good, although I can't remember what it was. It's just nice to have a place like Muggswigz in Canton. Only wish it weren't so far, I rarely go to downtown Canton. read more

This is for sure my favorite coffee shop. I'm a bit of a coffee snob at home and I like to brew up good tasting beans. When I'm getting low on beans, I head down here and pick up a bag. The overall store is a decent size and has a cool vibe to it. They serve just about everything coffee related you can think of as well as some teas.
