Angel Falls Coffee is one of my favorite spots to go when I want to support a local coffee business! While it's about 20 minutes away from me, it's always worth it. The last time I went, I ordered a chocolate croissant and a Caramel Chameleon iced latte. The iced latte was so good that I grabbed another one to go! Something I really admired about this place on my last visit was how organized the staff was, despite being absolutely slammed. They knew how to keep the line moving and were all very friendly. *Some things to note: It can get very crowded, which limits seating. Because of the crowds, parking may also be tricky (though I've never had to leave due to not finding a parking spot!) read more

I don't see how there could be any ratings under 3 for Angel Falls Coffee. Surprisingly and not surprisingly, this city and area, the crown jewel of the rubber industry and home of big tire manufacturers, has enough critical mass to warrant culture, fine dining, and entertainment venues. The nearby university (University of Akron) is a medium- to large-sized school that has many of the chain eateries and coffeehouses nearby. Not surprisingly, a major university niche area is polymer engineering, which relates to the rubber industry. I asked about independent coffeehouses and was steered several miles west on Market Street to Angel Falls Coffee, although I was given some other indie names. The name Angel Falls registered. Located in Venezuela, it is the tallest waterfall in the world! I was also told that the coffeehouse and its immediate area, Highland Square, lean bohemian and is where the cool kids in the area opt to live. Once you get out of your car, the quirkiness of the area is evident and it continues in going inside to Angel Falls Coffee. If it were in a strip mall, which it is not, Angel Falls would seemingly take up two bays. The left half of the store is where you order near the glass cases and where there is merchandise. The right half of the store is the slightly frumpy wood paneled coffeehouse with the seating. I need to immediately mention some things. The selection of teas is stellar. I was able to land on apricot flavored tea that is a caffeinated black tea. It was delicious. If that isn't enough, there's a large selection of cookies, cupcakes, pastries, and slices of cake and the prices are fair. The cupcake I selected was excellent. The service is pleasant enough and they attend to people quickly. You can take your purchase to go. However, many people choose to stay to eat in. Places like Angel Falls make me chuckle and scratch my head as to how I check the D box on my voter registration yet I find counterculture people amusing, intriguing, and irritating. Now, at a suburban coffee house where many of the patrons might check the R box, these mental gymnastics wouldn't even register. But I don't want to check the R box. Thus, I rolled with this "rubbing of the elbows" with some unique people: Highland Square residents, Akron U. students, university employees, progressives, hippies, various area residents who come because it's a good coffeehouse, and others steered here because of asking for recommendations. You'll remember this coffeehouse because it's far from cookie cutter. Parking can be found free of charge on the side streets. There are diagonal parking spaces out front that are metered. Again, the coffeehouse itself is a little bit dowdy which detracts from it getting 5 stars. But the selection of teas, baked goods, and the expedient service are its strong points. I'm sure the coffee, of which there are many varieties, is also good. There are also some interesting eateries packed into these few blocks. Angel Falls is thus squarely a 4 star experience and one that I could see people repeating often if a local, or from time to time if passing through. read more

Yes, I know baristas are supposed to be rude (we've all seen the memes) but it's not mandatory for staff to be unpleasant. Sadly the service here is unwelcoming. The coffee itself is excellent so buy a pound, go home and make it yourself. It will taste better... as the preparation here is subpar. Sadly, the location is dirty and it is hard to find parking for. The ambiance suffers from both of the above. The pastries are good but with outstanding bakeries nearby, like The Blue Door, the pastries here don't stand out in any way. Overall, it gets the job done...just. read more

I've been to this cafe during an event called "Drip drive". This was around the time that the solar eclipse was happening and they had a special drink named "Black Hole Sun" (I think it had blackberry in it) It was the best coffee I've had! A couple years later, I go back in and tell them about how great that drink is, and behold the lady who made it the recipe was there. She knew exactly how to make it and made it, even though it wasn't on their menu. This historic cafe provides comfort in good coffee and a good vibe. read more

There's no way this place is only 3.4 stars. I stopped here as part of the Akron Drip Drive challenge and was pleasantly surprised. First, they have a wide variety of premade sandwiches that you can purchase from the refrigerator. Very reasonably priced! I had a corned beef and cheese that was very good. They also have a wide variety of pastries and other sweets. The apple danish that I enjoyed warmed up was delicious. I'm going to grab a blueberry muffin for the road because they ran excellent as well. The dining area is comfortable and inviting. This is such a cute coffee shop. The seating is super nice and I was able to play games with my friends while drinking my chai from a big cup. This place is a hidden gem in Akron and deserves a better rating!!! The food, the coffee, the vibe, the people are all so fun and pleasant. I found this just driving around one day and stopped in and saw regulars who seemed to meet there often, talking and laughing, others reading, and on laptops. Such a cute coffee shop right in highland square. Stopped in with girlfriends after yoga and had iced chai lattes - absolutely delicious and such a great moody vibe inside. OK, I'm not going to lie. I wasn't expecting much from this coffee shop. I went because our area is having this raffle for trying so many coffee shops in the area that they have listed and this was on the list of coffee shops to visit. You get your card stamped showing you went there. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The coffee presentation was decent. The flavor was amazing. Now I try to always get the same exact drink when I'm comparing one coffee shop with the other, which is an espresso macchiato. Not a whole Lotta sugar and milk covering up the flavors the coffee shop has a great ambience, very cozy seating and a real hometown feeling even though it's in the city. The customers inside the coffee shop we're very friendly and engaging. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The employees not so much but they make a great espresso macchiato so that was great. I will definitely come back here and try a different drink in the future for more comparisons. read more

Angel Falls has good coffee. It unfortunately is in a busy area. This can be hard to get to. It definitely is good enough to make your way here. The coffee is likable but not service. A latte is about $3 for a regular. It's not that bad of a price. There's other places that will rip you off worse. It has a lot of non dairy milk options. They have oat milk, which is unusual. It tastes fine. What's not fine is the rude service. A lot of other reviewers have commented about it. The service wasn't really bad for me, but I noticed a lack of interest in some employees about getting things out timely. Also about answering questions regarding ingredients. They don't care or know. Other than the bad service, it's not awful. It's recommended you get coffee to go. The wifi can be spotty. read more

Charming hangout! As You walk in immediately you feel welcome. Someone from behind the bar says "Good Morning!" Or whatever pleasant salutation is regarded at the moment. The employees are top notch! They get your order correct and quickly. Nice variety of delicious bakery and sandwiches. They have these homemade pies and cakes. They look amazing and taste even better! Not sure who is responsible for these bakery items. Scones and buttery fresh croissant. However you "baker person." Keep'em comin! Great local spot to hit for your caffeine or in my case sweet tooth fix! Haha. I ordered a hot chocolate and chocolate croissant which were both superb! As if that weren't enough, I wanted to get some sweets to go and decided on an Apple fritter and lemon bar. I was a little bummed when I discovered that the fritter was stale but I suppose you win some you lose some in the game of pastry roulette. The menu was a little difficult to read as it was hand written on the cupboard doors. It might be a good idea to have a laminated option at the counter to look at but that's just me. I've stopped in multiple times, and the staff is always very friendly. The pastries I've had are just okay, and the espresso drinks are not good. They always taste burnt. I was extremely impressed with their vanilla latte! Honestly, it was one of the best (if not the best) I've ever had! The flavor was just right- not too much vanilla, not too much milk, could taste the espresso really well. I give the latte a 10/10! The building is adorable! I love the mural on the outside and the light-up sign out front! If you sit at the patio, you can see the beautiful mosaic windowsill. The bathrooms inside were clean, which is always nice. But the seating inside is kind of crowded. There were lots of tables and couches, but they were really close to other people. My friend and I wanted to have a serious private conversation, and this just wasn't the place for it cause everyone else was sitting too close. We opted to sit outside which was a great idea! Plus we could look at all the passing puppies! The barista I had was very friendly and nice! It did take about 8 minutes for someone to help us, but they were busy. Friend and I are working on Summit County Drip where you check out local coffee/tea houses. We decided to do without the spouses and enjoy stress free evening. She was able to get a wonderful window table and was enjoying a pot of Peppermint tea with a chocolate chip cookie. When I got there I couldn't believe how many choices of fresh tea leaves. You could purchase for home or enjoy there. I chose the Japense sencha green tea and added a huge chocolate chip cookie. We were able to sit and talk and enjoy the tea for 2 hours. I've been here dozens of times in the past, but never wrote a review or checked in. I wrote most of my thesis here and studied for numerous exams. It's the first coffee/tea shop that I was a regular at. I've changed a lot in that time. Full circle for me. This place has an amazing and cozy interior, assorted seating, plugs, great music, great people, great baristas, bulk tea, bulk coffee, and is a key fixture of this community. It's like a dive bar for coffee and tea. Their tea is awesome! I usually get a big ol' kettle of it and camp out. To me this is a dive bar so the following critique doesn't have any weight, since it's just not the place you go to for top shelf coffee. It's like asking for a hamburger at a sushi place. They have third wave coffee beans, however their lightest roast is technically a medium roast, since the bean color is dark brown. Maybe a dark-medium roast.
