Came here and got a fish bowl that was 15 and the cheese fondue for two for 13.00 dollars! I would say that's a pretty good price, especially since some drinks were 8 dollars. Fishbowl was shared between two people. The place is dark, with low lighting, very casual place. More couches than tables. The front has couches and the back there are a couple of tables. Then there's a bar with more two people tables to the wall. Pretty chill place. People from all different age groups come here is what I noticed my first time coming here. You have older patrons that come in, to around college and post college age people. I would come back! It's a good place to come and get drinks and appetizers and converse. read more

What a gem in downtown Springfield. I wish there was a place like this in my neighborhood in Washington, DC. The scotch whiskey selection is impressive, the beer list respectable, and the martinis are inventive. The prices are good for the selection and value that you get. The vibe is coffee shop sophisticated but without pretense. I was there on New Years Eve and the staff handled a busy night very well. They were attentive and always ready to take our order for the next round. The noise is minimal, the music isn't overwhelming, you can absolutely have a great conversation without screaming across the table. I plan to head back next time I'm in Springfield. read more

Mud Lounge has the market on feeling at home when your out. At one time Mud Lounge was a fantastic place but now it's a wreck. The biggest problem I have noticed is that the service has gone WAY downhill. When my friends & I first started going there in the early 2000's the service was very attentive and even when they were busy we did not feel ignored. However, it has gotten to the point to where my friends & I are routinly passed over only to see people that arrived AFTER US get served before we do. There was even an occasion where we were NEVER SERVED and multiple groups that arrived after us were served. Needless to say we left after about 30 minutes. Maybe we were not "high class" enough to be in their presence? Another issue is that their cheese trays at one time were loaded with cheese and had some veggies on the side. Now their "cheese trays" are the exact opposite and they need to change the name to "veggie tray with cheese". I actually would not care that much if it were not for the fact that they never changed their price to reflect the lack of cheese on the "cheese tray". I gave Mud Lounge 2 stars as opposed to 1 because I actually experienced a time where they WERE a great place to visit. This shows that they have the capability to serve customers and I hope one day they revert back to their days of being a great coffeehouse. read more

The Bar itself is Great. There is a wide variety of brews on the menu with something that will appeal to every taste. Unfortunately the Red Wine Selection is a bit on the Dull side and and the service could use a boost, (On my last visit I sat at a table for about 7 to 10 minutes before being greeted, and have had problems getting staff attention on other occasions as well.) Although I applaud the establishment for having no smoking in the main bar the lack of an indoor smoking section all together is a bit of a nuisance. The patio is especially uninviting in the winter months. Perhaps a heater or two would help. Not perfect, but a wonderful effort just the same. read more

Good beer and scotch selection. Service is a coin toss. Many of the servers there play favorites and are overworked/understaffed. On two occasions I had to actually stop the server to be waited on! I didn't go alone either of those times! Both times, I was with about four people and sat in the walking area out there in the middle of the seating area! Pricey, but good deals during the week. In my book, you can't beat Mud Lounge when it comes to drinking downtown. The atmosphere is perfect: warm, inviting, leather chairs and sofas, tables too, kinda like a coffeeshop with a bar. I almost always order from the beer menu, which is great. They always have some interesting options on tap. If you're here during Happy Hour, I'd also really recommend their house wine (which is 50% off). Except for one exception that I won't include, the service is always great. You don't need to start a tab -- just let the server know when you'd like your check. read more

If you're at that age when clubs are behind you and drinking alone at dusty bars is ages ahead, this is the place for you. Maybe the only city-esque spot in Springfield to grab drinks and maybe a snack with friends. Populated by 20s-30s with the occasional older patron. This place can get pretty crowded so if you're planning on sitting down with a larger group I would get there earlier to grab a table. Get the fishbowl if you're up for sharing... it does the trick, is fun, and easily shared amongst friends. Otherwise, it can get a little expensive unless they're running a special. When I think of going out for a drink, I always think of the Mud Lounge first. While it may not have the widest beer selection and the cocktail prices can be a little steep, the Lounge absolutely has the best patio in downtown Springfield. If you find yourself wanting a nice cocktail on a fine evening, this is the place to go. Their happy hour deals make their drinks both delightful and affordable, and their selection of appetizers and sandwiches are fresh and delicious. They have awesome martinis and really enjoyable paninis. The servers are extremely friendly and generally very quick. The Mud Lounge has obviously worked hard to create a vibe that feels comfortable and cosmopolitan, making it the perfect spot for an evening out. read more

Atmosphere is great. Beer selection is good. So why the 3 stars? Service is, let's say, sluggish?? I'm a big downtowner, thus have been to pretty much every restaurant/bar in the area several times over and I've seen never any of their employees have a sense of urgency. Now, I've been in the service industry my whole life and am quite patient when it comes to slow service. In fact, I am usually the one making up excuses for it to my friends ("Oh, maybe her dog died today", "it must be those Tom shoes...too tight" or "maybe the d-bag at her other table stiffed her") However, waiting 20 minutes to even be acknowledged then another 20 minutes on top of that to have a nice cold brew in my hand is way too long! (you don't want to see unhappy, sober, thirsty Aly!) All in all, maybe it goes with the ambience of the place (emo, anyone?) and that's the way it's supposed to be, but in a time frame when I usually down 2 to 3 drinks or cocktail and I can only get 1 down is just not enough Will I be back? Yes...but only when I know I have enough time set aside to get some drinks! read more

The best part of this bar is that the majority of my friends love it, so when I come in, I always see someone I know. Drinks-wise, I've liked about half of the drinks I've tasted here. However, I just know to try something else the next time. They used to have an amazing Moscato d'Asti that I just loved. The fishbowl is delicious. The past few visits here have been terrible. We used to come in every Friday/Saturday night and the past few weeks the service has been terrible. About an hour and a half before bar close the servers ask us to close out our tabs because they want to go home and then they have last call at 12:15. Then start shutting lights off and coming over every 5 minutes and asking when we're leaving. From the outside it's a warm and funky coffee house, but what makes Mudhouse Coffee great is the way they have combined their delicious coffee into faboulus mixed drinks. The Mudlounge's menu includes a great mix of hot and spicy coffee drinks, tasty martinis and a selection of great local brews. Much like this great coffee shop, Downtown Springfield 's downtown scene is a great mix of retro fun and funk. The shops, bars and restaurants have all given a new life to the city's beautiful historic buildings. I recently went here with three of my friends. This was a first for me, but they'd all been several times, so I was quite excited to experience it for myself. Our initial waiter, Cody, was fantastic. However, the evening took a turn when his shift finished. At that point, we were left in the care of the waitress Merideth, who's name we only discovered when we read it on our final bills at the end of the evening. The reason being that from the time Cody left at 7:30, to the time we left at 10:45, she checked on us a total of zero times. The only way my friends and I got anything to drink, even water, was if we went up to the bar and got it ourselves, which i wouldn't have minded if it weren't for the fact that every single table around us was being waited on. After several successful attempts of catching her attention and receiving no service anyway, we took care of ourselves. The saving grace, and the only reason this got more than one star, was because the bartender who was extremely busy went out of his way to bring us our drinks when we ordered them. To sum up, Cody was great, the bartender was great, most of the drinks were great (the Snails Pace and Quark were amazing); but Merideth was a flop and doesn't like people who sit on the sofas upfront. (Except the people who took our seats as we were leaving. Strange.) Also, they're fondu was lumpy, smelt strange, and made my friend sick. Also a flop. read more

Since opening in 2003, The Mud Lounge has made quite a name for its self. This chic locally owned downtown attraction has much to offer. Through the front door you find a very relaxed smoke free atmosphere, a full bar with 80 different beers, 8 of them on tap, full coffee bar, and an amazing selection of "Coffee Drinks". For the food I was really impressed. I found appetizers like cheese plates, a great spinach artichoke dip, and both cheese and chocolate fondue. Desserts I will have to try next time but have been told about an amazing fried cheesecake called "Xango" and a Bailey Irish Cream Cheese Cake made for them by a local baker. They also offer a great sandwiches like the grilled chicken topped with cheese and their spinach artichoke dip. Out the back door you will find a large patio that makes the perfect place to enjoy a summer evening or a cigar. Everything was priced very reasonably and I found the price on imported beers to be lower than most of the other bars in town. And even though I'm not a huge beer drinker, they have quite the impressive selection. My recommendation, though: a White Russian with blueberry vodka. Tastes like a muffin! I love this bar. Absolutely love it. I don't mind paying the slightly higher prices for great drinks and a wonderful atmosphere. I love that they don't allow smoking and that they don't allow minors in. It's a nice, grown up atmosphere and just about the only bar I'll visit downtown. read more
