In spite of the busyness, the service was cheerful, fast and amazingly effective. The bartender kept a fast pace, with every drink garnished elaborately and made impeccably. Their rum selection is well-curated, yielding at least four rums we had not yet tasted. Chef was working with a broken oven, so created a new temporary menu !!??!! The indoor and outdoor spaces were much better than our late 80s early 90s college dive bars. The beer flowed in pitchers. Forgot about pitchers. There is a reason why typical nights at another laid-back, 21+ bar (Flea, Grad School, etc.) is packed with people, while Mudlounge is usually at medium capacity at best. The consistent amount of different events at Mudlounge may be a sign that the business may need these events to get people to come to the bar. Maybe Mudlounge would not need so many events if the environment and staff weren't so inhospitable. The only reason why I would choose to come to Mudlounge over another bar is the availability of food, but after my last visit I would rather just eat at a place like Picklemans or Greek Belly (restaraunts that are right next door) before going out to a bar. It seems that many negative reviews of this business echo my same sentiments, showing that this is a consistent issue patrons experience and not just a negative one off. It is unfortunate that a prime downtown spot is being taken up by a bar that lacks the typical Missouri charm and hospitality seen in other businesses.
