Checked out this cool Inner Sunset bar. It's only a few blocks from Golden Gate Park. Mucky Duck is good for drinks after long walks. For sure it was nice to have a sit and relax after a day of going around. The prices are pretty affordable for around here. A pretty good amount of space inside. It's a sports bar with plenty of TVs. There's a lot of games to watch. Good drink prices. It's about $8 for basic cocktails, which is pretty okay for around these parts it seems. As for the food, not really much. There's chips for $1 or so. But there's plenty of restaurants around. They may let people bring in stuff. Good location. It's only a few blocks to get to Golden Gate Park. Terrible experience from start to finish. Came in with a big group of friends and the atmosphere of the place was immediately unwelcoming. Bartender lady gave us immediate stink eye and immediately proceeded to tell us that if we weren't ordering anything we had to wait outside for our friends that DID order drinks. Place wasn't even busy and had plenty of room for other people to sit. Friends had to chug their drinks so we could move on to a more welcoming place. I recommend skipping this place and going to The Temple Bar that is not too far from this place. read more

Didn't do a whole lot of 'splorin', but it looked like they might have had some darts or something in the back. Maybe a little spot to do some dancin'? My back gave out about 2 min before the 44 bus stopped in front of the Muck. Saves this old dude some steep hills. Around 3 PM on a weekday. I needed to sit a second and grabbed one of the chairs in front. My buns had barely hit the seat when d**khead comes flying out to tell me I had to buy a drink if I wanted to sit there. I weakly pointed at the bus stop and said: Just need a minute. He shouted: You still have a buy a drink to sit here! I said: I will NEVER buy a another drink at your crap bar. This bar is one of the coolest bar ever. It's my first time here and I usually go to the Yancy Saloon all the drinks are beer are like $6.00 and more but here are the Mucky Duck I don't know how the prices on the drinks are. But it's way better then the other bars out there in SF. My favorite beer is the Heineken. I always get that beer every time I go to the bars. And it's a good spot to watch the games on tv and listening to some good music. Coming from Ocean Beach, Mucky Duck is the perfect bar to chill along the N Muni line. I met some friends with my husky puppy. The bartender was super chill but also cautious about getting in trouble from his boss about the dog. He was welcoming, though. This is your typical San Francisco dive bar, complete with TVs, juke box, and regulars. Decent selection of beers. Didn't pay much attention to that. Just the fact that there was plenty of space to hang out with my friends and puppy. Being close to Muni, I'd come here again. read more

Essentially the anchor of the neighborhood. Great folks on both sides of the bar, awesome beer selection, and a fun and laid back atmosphere. I live a couple of blocks away and while there are several other bars in the neighborhood, this is always my choice when I want a few drinks in the neighborhood. Also, you can order food next door at Howard's and they'll bring it over for you if you'd like. Oh, and a little historical trivia: This location has been a bar since at least 1945. Originally Ed & Bert's Tavern, then The 9th Inning in 1955 (which you can still see the sign from if you walk to the back of the bar, face the front, and look up), and then finally The Mucky Duck in 1996. read more

Solid place to go to after work on a weeknight. My bud and I were exhausted after working a long day. We decided to snag a brew and wind down our day. He said that he's been here before and it is a good spot to hangout. I concur. This place is on the older side, it is a neighborhood bar and I like the older feel. Upon walking in this place is divey; great vibe and a place I would want to become a regular, if I lived in the area. People are just watching TV, different sports are playing. There is only one bartender but she is not overwhelmed, there is enough people in the bar but not crowded. There are seats that go around the bar (as usual) and there are seats there are tables that fit four people where you can sit on your own. The brews on tap are all we drank. I had the death and taxes and my bud had the Gose sour. Solid brews that aren't your normal choices. I always appreciate places trying different styles of beers that aren't your standard beers on tap. As far as drink, I have no idea of their mixology. The food pretty limited. There isn't a menu for it, rather its stricly bar snacks. You can purchase you own chips, but there is a popcorn stand that people can get complimentary. Just ask the bartender for a bowl and you can grab your own as many times as you want. There are condiments to add to it - more cheese, garilic and spice to your own liking. In the back there is one pool table. Old school billards where you have to ask the bartender for change. My only qualm is that there was a hair in my second beer, it happens. While your drinks may be cheap, and your atmosphere quite chill, we won't be seeing each other anymore. You're perfect for smokers, allowing your guests to light up inside, but it's a deal breaker for me. I don't have a problem with the folks who come here to take advantage of the opportunity, but I'm not exactly itching to take the smell of cigarettes home with me as a souvenir either. With that in mind, there's really no reason for me to come back to you when I can just as easily stop off at Yancy's around the corner. Tried to come here multiple times because I live in the neighborhood but both times were met with incredibly rude and demeaning staff.

Not the greatest place, except for this one drink called the eye dropper. It makes you do very crazy things (so don't bring any friends, you'll regret it the next morning). Dive-bar-esque, except for the prices: affordable, but for San Francisco. PS: for your own safety, duck when you come in (seriously, not a pun) the dart board is right by the entrance and sometime the players are going for distance. read more

One of the great pubs nearby my house. This one has a distinct neighborhood feel and not many UCSF students go to this one so it doesn't feel collegiate. What is great is that this place is located in a great commercial area in the Inner Sunset so if you don't particularly like this place, you can walk across the street or down the block and find another one. I'm sure you'll like this place though. It's easy to get the bartender's attention (though, once you get your first drink at the bar, you should address him by his name, and not as "hey"). But inside the Mucky Duck, I could've been anywhere in America, and probably one of the less cool parts. Been coming here on and off for years. No relation to the Mucky Duck in Monterey, but I always think of the other whenever I'm at either. Popped in here yesterday (late Saturday) afternoon and wow, I don't know who picked those selections, but they had some jammin' rockin' selections playing on the jukebox. The bartender, Lisa, was super sweet and cool and I was surprised to hear that she is the daughter of a bartender at one of my favorite bards in North Beach. Struck up a great conversation about cars with a patron who is a mechanic and a certified car nut and also shot some great pool in the back as well. Great little area back there to shoot pool and the table was pretty good although the bumpers could have used some work. Left here to go to a lesser bar in the outer avenues afterwards and truly regretted it when I got there. So lame, but I know the owner and regulars there, so I won't name it here. Cars, pool, and alcohol! The Mucky Duck is a great local bar...not sure why I haven't come here more often in the past. read more
