I stopped in recently only because my partner was working a short shift. I used to really enjoy this bar and even deleted a previous review that detailed a bad experience because I wanted to see the business succeed. Over time, though, I've consistently experienced a noticeably colder reception from the bartenders, especially from Shane. Several months ago, after an incident where a regular directed a racial slur at me and I responded, I stopped coming in. A few months later, Shane called me around 9:30 a.m. to tell me I was no longer welcome back. After that, a friend of his mentioned they weren't surprised, based on comments and interactions they've seen with other guests who also felt "othered" here. It reinforces the sense that this bar is most comfortable with a very homogeneous, established crowd. Earlier this year Shane told me I could return in early 2026; I declined. On this most recent visit, I tried not to make things awkward and agreed to have one drink with my partner. When he ordered, the bartender said they didn't have what I wanted and added, "Shane's coming," then brushed off my follow‑up questions. The message felt clear. It's not a terrible bar, but for people I care about, my advice would be: stop in for a quick round, be very low‑key, and don't expect it to feel especially welcoming unless you fit a certain demographic or are already grandfathered in with the regulars. read more

Ugh I love this bar so much. When people ask me about my favorite dive bar, I say Glen park station. The employees have always been kind, drinks are very reasonable, they have my favorite pinball machine, darts, a juke box, and an outside patio. It's always clean too. Went to Glen Park Station a while back. I was sitting at the bar minding my own business. A drunk woman comes up to me and tries to conversate, but she was too drunk to really understand. The next thing I know, she thinks I offended her and starts calling the bartender by name to come over. She was obviously a regular and the bartender knew her name too. She tells the bartender she wants me to leave, while I'm still confused about what her problem is. I tell the bartender that I was sitting there minding my business until the drunk woman approached me, which he knew because he served me and witnessed the whole encounter. But the bartender makes me leave because he didn't want to side against the drunk regular that annoys customers who are minding their own business. So if you're just looking to get a drink, don't come here. It's a bar for regular drunks who are going to get you thrown out because they have spineless bartenders that will take their side, even if you're just sitting there quietly by yourself. It's very clear Gland Park Station actively practices discrimination based on my experience and based on other reviews here on Yelp. However, I will go back one more time...but I'll be leaving a puddle of urine at the bar floor. I'm an emotionally intelligent & particular, feminine woman of color. Visited solo on an early Friday evening. First visit in about four years. I highly recommend this bar. It's the best of old-school San Francisco. Some gratis bar snacks, decent German beer very clean bathroom and personable bar staff and nice patrons. What more could you want? I know phonies and racists when they come across me and I would recommend Glen Park Station to people of all nationalities and genders. Don't write many reviews now, only when necessary. I saw another review that complained about the bar staff not being friendly to non-regulars. I went here with a group of friends on Sat early evening -- we were all new to Glen Park Station. We were treated just fine! Drinks were good and reasonably priced. They let you bring in outside food (try the taqueria next door!). Locally owned and operated! One of the best neighborhood dives in the city that we love to patronize. The new owners are young and did not change much. This is probably the closest bar to a Cheers bar that I have been to. The bartenders behind the bar are really friendly but the locals are even friendlier. I love how likely it is to strike up a conversation with the locals who frequently attend the bar. I have had my fair share of fun and interesting conversations. It's very much a dive bar with not a lot of thrills to the actual bar. The actual building is a bit outdated and a lot of the space looks like it could be repaired. There's a nice back space too and it actually has more space then I had originally thought. The reason I'm such a fan though is because it has charm. They even have a jukebox app so it's always fun to take over the bar radio for a bit. A great spot to stop by after BART since it's so close. read more

The Station. Early drinkers. Heavy smokers. Bar fly galore. I get to Glen Park with the sun shining and see that the Station is packed @ 4:00. I walk in the door to work and preemptively say to Blake, my co-worker: "I really can't go out tonight." Blake: "Yeah. Me either." ...some hours later at, say 8:00, 7:00 on a hectic night... Me: "I could maybe have ONE drink after work." Blake: "Oh yeah, girl. I'm down for one or two." And so it goes that after a grueling shift we head over to the Station, a.k.a. the GPS, for a drink. Bar flies have long gone home and we pretty much have the bar to ourselves. Sweet. We take our seats...They know us by name... and by drink. Blake: Jameson with a soda back. Me: fernet with a ginger back. We sip strongly. The stress melts away. Another is poured. This time it's on the barkeep. We hunker down onto the bar. A basket of the fresh, "good" snacks are tossed down on the bar for us to nibble. Love this place. Then the transformation begins... The professional, perma, server-smile transforms into a more natural (sarcastic & wry) expression as we re-hash our night of triumphs and tragedies. Boy does it feel good to sit. We laugh at stupid co-worker & customer tricks. The night melts away. Blake feeds the jukebox some money and one of the fine bartenders fills our glasses. The Smiths are playing. Then Al Green. Perhaps a little Santana or Zeppelin. Or a Blake fave, TV on the Radio (he pays extra for those). The Station is just your average dive bar. Moose head over a dart board. Angry bear head by the door. On cold nights, the fire pit blazes. Occasionally, some dude will wander in for a 6-pack (yep. that's right. you CAN get the booze to go). More often than not, there'll be some drunk-ass fool stumbling out for a smoke. You can bet that most nights the place smells like melted Velveeta cheese, or like stale beer and cigarette smoke. But as with all good things, nights at the GPS are short-lived as BART declares my curfew. Just a little tipsy, the stress of the evening has been transformed into a warm, boozy glow, and my chariot awaits to schlep my ass home. ********* UPDATE: 4/22 please note that while i love the GPS, i only gave it 3 stars 'cause the place stinks to high heaven on some nights. pretty knarly. read more

This bar is awesome. I used to live in the neighborhood, and I can genuinely say, this bar saved my life on more than one occasion. It provided the relief from the day-in-day-out, soul-crushing job I had at the time, and when my girl broke my heart, the kind bartenders were always there to lend an ear, a drink, and make me feel welcome. They always extended hospitality that was above and beyond. Even though I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, I still come back all the time. They have awesome live music here on weekends for no cover, which is always fantastic! The place is filled with interesting folks, some locals, some not, but a great mix of people, old and young, beautiful and ugly, sulky and flirty. The way a good melting pot should be. If you're the type of person who gets offended by people glancing over you and then not wanting to talk to you, perhaps you should ask yourself why you're so very uninteresting, to the point that people would rather ignore you and drink in silence then want to chat with you. Something to think about... This bar has never tried to be upscale, that's the charm. It's got dartboards, a pinball machine, a smoking patio, pictures of sports and celluloid heroes on the wall, a taxidermied buffalo head, beer on draft, spirits on the shelf, a stacked jukebox, and if you're fucking man enough, meat products in a crockpot, that only the realest of dudes can digest. How someone can be annoyed by a fresh flower arrangement is beyond me, but hey - get mad bro. This is an old school bar, plain and simple. No pretentions. I haven't been to a bar in a very long time. At first, we went to Pissed off Pete, but I didn't feel comfortable there. We decided to try this place instead, which was only a few blocks away from my house. It's a small place but it gave me a better feeling. We sat down at the bar and waited until the bartender came. I don't know his name, it was a Friday night. Maybe he's just stressed or something, he didn't show we were welcome at all. He should work for Pissed off Pete instead, cause his face was telling me he was pissed off! lol! Any way, my friend got a beer, I got two drinks. Later on, another friend joined us too. We had a wonderful time, regardless the bartender's attitude, I'm still satisfied with this place. The drinks were about $7-8 each. Not bad. read more

Drinks are priced well ($5 for a well drink), but as has probably been mentioned, they are CASH ONLY. They have no ATM onsite either, but there is a bank across the street. They serve snack mix on request and looked to have some chips for sale. Otherwise, no food available (that I saw). read more

"Honey, I'm on my way - I'm just at Glen Park Station." This is the neighborhood bar if you live in Glen Park, and we are lucky to have it. A bit divey, more than inviting; sometimes they have food; they have a back "game room", they have a patio; and everyone fights for that table in front of the fireplace. Before walking in, make sure you have cash! There are ATMs next door and across the street, so hit them up first. When you do walk in, either claim a table or head straight to the bar. Regular cocktails are $4, on tap beers or better cocktails are $5, so definitely enjoying a cheap evening. Regulars are known and welcome, and really makes you appreciate what kind of neighborhood Glen Park is. But likewise I have seen after work happy hour crowds, friends pre-gaming, and even dates here. Heck, I've taken a date or two here. While they sometimes have food, you can always pickup from next door or order delivery to the restaurant which is nice. All in all, I don't think Glen Park could do with a better local dive bar. I've had many good times at GPS and plan to have a few more. read more

I cannot resist the lure of a bar patio with comfy chairs. Even one without a heat lamp... ...But I can resist hot dogs that have been sitting out unrefrigerated, right next to a health score card of 84. The people eating them seemed to be enjoying them based on the fact that they were free. I like to munch on snacks at the bar... ...But not at a bar whose men's room sink is mysteriously located in the crapper stall (I have my sources) and therefore not easily accessible to someone who was just handling his Precious Gift at the urinal before he dunked right into the community snack basket. I like a bartender who knows all his regulars... ...But I scratch my head at a bartender who hands me a 10 as change. How will I tip you, good sir? Would you prefer a knock-knock joke or a jig? I want to preface this review with how I think that 1 of the bartenders, Richard, is a wonderful person and treats customers as if they were family. Since I've grown old enough to actually enter the bar (having moving away to attend college before I turned 21), I've been in very few times, only when I'm home visiting, but tonight I had a problem with a new bartender that is young & has black hair (not Rich, who is a wonderful person and one of the top reasons to patronize Glen Park Station during the nights he works), who refused to give me his name for future reference, and is the reason I am forced to only give this bar one star. I grew up 2 blocks away from Glen Park Station, but moved away to go to college before I was 21 & could enter the bar. I had always heard positive stories about Richard the bartender, so I have always spent time at Glen Park Station after long days of visiting SF (not to mention it being very close to where I am graciously allowed lodging during my visits to SF). Tonight (Oct 12/13) I entered the bar (completely sober) after having worked for 8 hours and ordered a gin & tonic with a shot of Jameson Whiskey on the side, which I planned to enjoy while watching highlights of today's sports on ESPN on one of the many bar TVs. The young bartender who was working this evening (not Richard) did not attempt to make any conversation with me or be friendly once I had tipped him for the only drink I ordered, and after having spent $12 on the jukebox, refused to talk to me or serve me another drink. I was completely offended by his behavior & his refusal to give me his name. When I asked him for his name, just so I could connect with him or even have an opportunity to understand his decision. I did not create a scene because bartenders have the right to refuse service to people who have had too much, but after only 1 drink I found it unfair that the bartender refused to serve me because "he did not know me." The bartender's actions were humiliating ("come back a few times and I may serve you more") to hear as he made the situation out to be negative; I had been working hard all day & I had just spent $12 on the juke box. All I wanted was to listen to some music as I unwound after a stressful work-day, but maybe I drank my gin & tonic too slowly or he felt that a $1 tip-per-drink from a college student wasn't enough, so he spitefully refused to serve me after only 1 drink. (maybe he only serves people who tip him $5 or more......). Honestly, yesterday I would have given this bar 5 stars (and intended to) but after this evening I can't give it more stars because I will be boycotting this bar unless Richard is working. As much as I wanted to, I did not argue when I was refused service, but the bartender's behavior was insulting, and I will never patronize this bar and day or night that he is working. It is completely unfair to refuse service merely because he didn't recogize me. This bar is 2 blocks from where I grew up & always heard stories about how wonderful Richard treats patrons, but the new bartender had no interest in conversation or doing his job. I've literally never even thought this before, but I truly hope he gets fired or quits - he doesn't deserve to work at a place like this. The bartender not only embarrassed me by refusing to serve me a second (watered down) gin and tonic, but embarrassed me infront of friends. We had to leave because we aren't negative people and didn't want to be negative/escalate the situation. I can promice that this bar will not get my patronage unless Rich is tending bar, but even then I still may never come back. Bartenders should be able to turn away customers who have been drinking too much, but I have never experienced having been thrown out of the bar after 1 drink in which I didn't fall asleep, start a fight, be loud/obnoxious & atthe same time tried to (unsuccessfully) spark friendly conversation with the bartender (who blatantly ignored me). I'm never coming back, and you should not start. I want to love this place, but only by boycott will behavior ever change. (He refused service the day before, Thursday October 11th because he claimed he had called "last call" before 1:20am). This guy is lazy & unfriendly; why should I waste my hard earned money to not only buy drinks, but tip him along thew way EVERY time? I wish I could tell this bartender that I believe him to be full of ****, but even if I did, it would not change anything except for to make him more petty/unreasonable. For only $5 for a glass here at Glen Park, I can get pretty blurry eyed and blushy faced. Which, in turn, can produce a solid set of wine goggles. And..well, let's just say I've used poor judgment here a couple of times. This is my good pal's neighborhood watering hole we frequent when I'm in her hood..it's a must-go-to for the end of the night. The bartenders are usually pretty cool, they have a decent wine selection and sometimes, there's eye candy in here and that makes me happy.. especially when I'm drinking. La Corneta is right next door and I like that I can take a break, grab a burrito and soak up some of my drunkassedness before it gets out of hand. Not that it ever helps but, I'll use any excuse for a burrito at that place. I walked in for the first time after visiting Mt. Davidson. I ordered a beer and everything was fine. Then, I put one David Bowie song in the Jukebox. The bartender (bald guy in a black tie, dress shirt and jeans) didn't like it and turned it off after 1 minute. So I lost a dollar to this trash hole, even though an older gentleman told him not to because someone paid for it. I finished my beer and walked out. Definitely will tell friends to avoid. read more

But I figured I would kick off my week of loneliness with some monday-night drinking at Glen Park station--it's on the way home from the airport, after all. I was sort of expecting droopy-old-man dive, or for it to simply be empty, but I was quite surprised. Fairly busy with one of the most diverse bar crowds I've seen in a while, worn-in-but-not-worn-down decor, and a white-haired bartender who wears a tie. In other words, the best bar in West Portal--except it's in Glen Park. Throw in free goldfish crackers, copies of the Onion laying around, Monday Night Football and ABBA on the jukebox, and you've got a real neighborhood classic. It's nice to know that if I moved here (and it's high on my list), I'd have all my bases covered -- morning (Cafe Bello), noon (La Corneta), and night (Glen Park Station). Came here the other night for a friends birthday party. It's totally dive-y but they accommodated our rather large party for the night. The bartenders were totally nice and so was the clean up staff.
