Service is fast and friendly. Was there on a Friday evening - it was busy but service was great. Prices are excellent. Hubby and I got 2 large beers, nachos supreme, burrito and 2 quesadilla for $34. Food is EXCELLENT and the white sauce they server with the chips and salsa is to die for!!! Wish I lived here because I could eat here every week!! read more

We went here for the first time and food was actually pretty good. Sad thing is they have the biggest jerk idiot as a manager! Chepe came to our table and we told him the burrito that my son ordered was supposed to have steak, chicken, and shrimp in it but came out with ONLY steak. He had eaten maybe a quarter of it and realized he wasn't getting anything but the steak so he opened it to see if it had the other meats and it did NOT. We started out very nice and tried to show him. He said "I don't know if he already ate the rest so we can't do anything ". Are you SERIOUS??!!!! He just called us liars and thieves!!! After a few "choice" words we finished our meal and was paying for everything we ordered even though we didn't receive it!! The waitress came back to the table and said I'm sorry I don't have any change to give you back. I can only give you $10 of the $15 + I owe you. Luckily it wasn't her fault that she worked under an idiot so we let her keep it. I then tried to call the owner Marco. I was told he was not there but was in the Salem location. I called Salem and they said Marco was in the Lexington location. I guess Marco is lost!! I will be calling again. I do NOT recommend if this stupid Chepe is working!! read more

Food Is great. Service not so much unless its the owner or his wife. There is a red head that also does a good job. But never seen a place charge for chips and salsa . Yea you get a small bowl but after your table has 2 bowls there is a up charge. The Bowles are very small. Also if you order anything that requires a tortilla you only get 2 very small ones. If you order alergra dip it dont come with chips? Seems they would take better care of there customers especially those who eat there many times a week. I hate to say but they lost about 8 good customers due to having to beg for chips and salsa . read more

We decided to eat at this place because it was convenient and had good reviews. We were seated immediately and our waiter, Enrique, was prompt with taking our order. That was the last time I saw him until we requested our check. He never came back to refill our drinks or chips and salsa. A different waiter brought our food out: fajitas and taquitos. Our fajitas were not sizzling, like another customer would received their fajitas before us. They didn't bring the tortillas or extra plates when we received our food. The waiter who brought our food said he would bring them but never did. We tried to flag down Enrique and he made eye contact with us but decided to serve 2 other tables. We finally flagged down a waitress for our missing food. By this point, 15 minutes had elapsed and our food was cold. The other person eating taquitos had finished his food at this point. Once we finally started eating our waiter came to check on us, 20 minutes after we received our food. The only reason I left 2 stars instead of one was the food was decent but lacked the spice that comes from Tex-Mex or Mexican food in general. When we finished eating, we found a hair in our food. At this point, we were so frustrated, we didn't even bring it to their attention. We were incredibly disappointed with the service we received at this restaurant. read more

Great service, good food, clean, polite staff highly recommend. The shrimp tacos are excellent!!!

Excellent Shrimp Quesada; good t-bone for the price; nice atmosphere; super service. When this place first opened I would've given it only 1 star...But they've made huge improvements, earning a four star vote from me. read more

This is the (much) better of the two Mexican restraunt in Lexington. I almost always get the parrillada, which is very good and is large enough for a few leftovers sometimes. I also enjoy the burritos (which are very large and yummy!) And fajitas. My family goes here frequently. I can't think of his name, but one waiter does an absolutely amazing job. read more

Stopped here with my wife after running a half marathon. She wasn't feeling well and needed a restroom and something to eat. Asked where the restroom was when we walked in. The host said it was only for paying customers. I said OK, I'd like to order. I waited an awkward moment for him to tell us where the restroom was. He didn't budge and said, are you going to order? I said yes, but she's not feeling well, where's the restroom? He just stood there and said we had to order first. It was weird. I actually ordered the first thing on the menu, but he walked over to the register, like he was going to make me pay first. At this point my wife walked out to go sit in the car. She really just needed to sit down. I really don't get what his problem was. We would have had lunch for two. We found somewhere else to eat. read more

Excellent Mexican restaurant right off 81. Chips are homemade as is salsa and guacamole - my daughter ate two bowls of guac!!! I had the carne asada burrito which was better than any burrito I have had in nearby ROANOKE. Great place and very friendly staff! read more

My go-to here is the mushroom "sincronizada" - nice to have something besides the normal burritos and tacos. My son favors their steaks which are large and at a very reasonable price. Warning: the white sauce they give with the free chips is addictive, but only the first one is free! Luckily refills are larger and only $1.35 (and you'll be wanting refills). read more

Good food, excellent service, yummy drinks and they were super efficient with a large party of 18.

I love the food here and the price is always reasonable. The white sauce they serve with chips when you dine in is incredible. I've never been disappointed with anything I've gotten off the menu read more

Legit Tex-Mex cuisine in Lex? Really? Believe it. Muchacho Alegre is a new addition to Appalachia, taking over the building of the once beloved Aunt Sarah's pancake house. The food is incomparably better than Donny T's and at similar prices. First, the chips and salsa (the measurement by which all Tex-Mex spots should be rated) were excellent -- there is nothing better than dipping thin/crispy and still warm tortilla chips into a freshly-prepared spicy bowl of joy. I tried the 3 taco plate, which had delectable beef options (my favorite being the "diabla") reminiscent of what I could find near the Riverwalk in San Antonio. The tacos came with a side of rice and refried beans, which were definitely NOT straight out of a can. The smothered burrito in white sauce and the fajitas also were impressive. Although we ate before noon, we were intrigued by the variety of drink specials and had heard good things about their 'ritas, which will absolutely be consumed on our return. The only thing that needs improvement is the speed of service (quick to take our order but slow to provide water/salsa and respond to getting the check) and more clarity in cost of "extras" (who knew an additional white sauce would be $1.25?). All in all, Muchacho Alegre acceptably fits the bill for what Lexington has sorely needed for years...a Mexican fix. read more

There are not a lot of Mexican food options out this way but we were a bit mislead by the overall yelp review since it was rated pretty good. Food was very bland, it seemed like there was no seasoning at all in most the food. The ground beef and steak tacos were tasteless. The beans almost seemed grey and the rice was very blah. Salsa was good, cheese dip was just okay. Drinks are also pretty watered down. read more

Heading up I-81, stumbled upon this roadside gem. Had the camarones y ajo and a cold Carta Blanca. Friendly, great service, really hit the spot! And right off the highway! read more

Stopped here based on other reviews and we couldn't have agreed more. Upon entering the owner said he would be right with us as he was waitering other tables. Well who appeared out of nowhere? This little girl carrying chips and 2 types of salsa and she seated us. WOW! Service was a bit on the slow side, however we were in absolutely no hurry. Vacation mode. I ordered chicken chimichanga which was awesome. My wife ordered shrimp quesadilla and it was quite huge and filled with shrimp. Oh by the way, z the food came out very quickly and hot through and through. We highly recommend Muchacho Alegre. read more

Our favorite local Mexican. Friendly, attentive service. Food is consistently fresh and delicious. Love their fajitas and specialties. Skip the margaritas and go for a beer. Weak drinks my one complaint. read more

Had the Carnitas en Salsa Verde, ok but nothing spectacular. The Salsa lacked the flavor I would have expected, but the pork was good. Speedy service...but it was slow on a Tuesday evening. Came with Chips and two types of salsa...chips we again ok.... read more

Saturday night and the food/service is awsome but the entertainment is fantastic! Great live band!

I thought this place was fantastic. Cheap beer and great service. Staff was really friendly and they kept the chips coming all night long. 5/5 will go again. read more

Great service and nice atmosphere but to me the food isn't that great for the price... I ordered the Special Burrito it lacked flavor and the meet was tough ... rice was dry and hardly any meet in the burrito.... read more

This place flat out sucks. If you want to experience LOUSY Tex-mex or Mexican food, stop here. I'm pretty easy to please, really, but this restaurant has no redeeming culinary value IMHO. Food presentation is lacking, to say the least. My entree came on a green plate with some kind of white sauce covering a white burrito (I think). Not any garnish to liven the plate up at all. Flavor was totally absent in my dish. If i were blindfolded I wouldn't have had a clue what i was eating. Drinks were the same - my margarita tasted like watered down lime juice -- yeech. Once all the locals are done "discovering" this joint, once all the tourists try it once, it'll be out of business for this establishment, unless it can trick visitors into coming in. Too bad, Lexington NEEDS a half decent Tex Mex joint, much less a really good one. There are people giving this place positive reviews on TripAdvisor, but, honestly, i can't imagine what they ate that would justify anything positive. read more
