Umm carnitas is supposed to be Mexican pulled pork. I ordered carnitas and got a huge chunk of fat with hardly any meat on it. The waitress never came around to refill our drinks. The food was delicious but my husband ordered a cheese filled relleno but was served a chicken stuffed. He had the pick 3 and said the chicken tamale was excellent. He also had an enchilada. I had the pick 2. I ordered a cheese burrito and quesadilla but what I received was more like an enchilada and quesadilla. Overall a little pricy for what you get. Stopped while cruising on 81, they've got the Mex in Tex-Mex down to a science. The serving size is plentiful, the food is amazing. I had the tacos- medium sized tortilla packed with whichever meat you please, and I was in heaven. The staff is helpful and really personable, fun to talk to. read more

We have been going to their north US 11 property for years and this was my first experience trying this newer location. Since this is in the middle of the pandemic, we decided to do takeout. We ordered in advance and was told pickup would be 10 minutes. I got there in 20 and it was not ready, but not a big deal. The outside of the place is plastered with 'masks required' signs so I felt safe. On entry, about 5 PM on a Thursday, they told me my meal would be ready soon. A few seconds later, a person came out from the kitchen with my order. He did not have a mask on and motioned me over to pay. I had my mask on and asked him to put his on. He got rather annoyed with me, almost hostile, but pulled it up. Another one had his nose sticking out. I went to pay contact free as they posted outside and the man said tersely that did not work. I pulled out my contact free credit card and waved it over their reader and it worked fine. I left a nice tip, but got no thank-you but only obvious signs of annoyance. The meal was OK. The food was substantial but not much taste. I can deal with that. What I can't deal with is when I checked my bank app the next day, they charged me twice. I called them of course. Absolutely no willingness to refund my money. I even took a printout from the bank as proof to them, nothing. No refund. Now I'm having my bank dispute the extra charge. It's a shame they would need an extra $27.00 that bad. All I can say is if you want food with no taste and are willing to be charged multiple times, that's up to you. read more

On a long trip and stopped here because of the convenience. This place exceeded every expectation. It was so good. We got the arroz con shrimp (forgot the Spanish term) and it was amazing! Larger interior than expected. Service was prompt, but they seemed to be missing many of the items on the menu. It was a Monday night and the Happy Hour Specials menu listed 99 cent mini lime margaritas as the Monday night deal. When I asked for one, I was told they had run out of the small glasses to serve the margaritas in, but they could give me a regular margarita for $5.99. How exactly does one run out of serving glasses by 5:30 PM on a Monday night? Anyway, moving on to the food. The chips and salsa were good and fresh. Our salsa was replenished as soon as we had finished the first bowl. I order the trio of tacos, but when I asked for the lengua (tongue), I was told they were all out of that too. So I ended up getting the pollo azado, carne azada, and barria fillings for the tacos. The menu stated that the tacos would be served with rice and beans, but my plate had no rice or beans. The taco meat was on the dry side, but flavorful. The accompanying dipping sauce was flavorful. My wife ordered a chicken dish with chorizo topping, which she said was pretty good, but on the salty side. Overall, the flavors seem more authentic than a typical chain Mexican restaurant, but don't be surprised if they've "run out of" what's on the menu or if your plate arrives missing items listed on the menu. There seem to be no other options for Mexican in Lexington (other than Taco Bell), so maybe this place will get better with time. read more

Great review drew us here. Started with salsa and chips. Salsa had a nice flavor but lacked spice and pizazz. Ordered a 24 oz margarita (hey, it was a rough day)and very little liquor in it. Usually a normal size margarita knocks me on my butt, but this super sized one had no effect. Had the Texas fajita. Bland, no spice. The side dish had some tasteless mushy rice, a couple tablespoons of refried beans, and about a quarter cup of iceberg lettuce with a few chopped tomatoes and sour cream. Service was decent. Terrible food and even worse service. The restaurant was filthy, the bathroom was disgusting, and the waitress was awful. When the waitress messed up our order, she was angry and rude. Great food- excellent service! We visited this restaurant last month during our road trip. We thought it was just going to be okay when we went in, but right away we were greeted by very friendly waitstaff. The coronarita was yummy! All of our food was delicious - no complaints. I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla and receive an Al a cart chicken quesadilla that was the size of a small chicken taco with no cheese and watered down shredded chicken for $3.90. I asked for guacamole and sour cream and it was more expensive than the chicken quesadilla aka chicken taco. Very disappointed. My meal ended up costing more than a full price dinner meal. When I asked about the price they just said that's the price and did nothing to compensate me. Why would I pay over $10 for 1 small tortilla and watered down shredded chicken? This was NOT A CHICKEN QUESADILLA. Every Mexican place I have ever ordered a chicken quesadilla from has salsa, sour cream and guacamole. The tortilla is at least a full size and there is plenty of chicken and cheese. :( read more

Among the best casual Mexican restaurants I've visited!!! I stopped by during a brief stay in town on a quiet Monday night. The parrillada was properly cooked and had great flavor. The service was great, the drinks cold, the food hot and fresh. I will definitely return here during my next visit to the area! It is worth the detour when traveling this way. read more

We were in Lexington for a VMI game and stayed at the adjacent hotel. The hotel staff mentioned we'd get 10% off at the restaurant so we tried it. Everything was absolutely delicious. The Chile rellenos are among the best I've ever had. The service was super It was so good we went again the next day after the game. I was expecting it to be like every other mediocre Mexican place (and the other in town), but alas- the food actually reminded us of eating in Mexico. "Muchacho Alegre" (Cheerful Boy) could well refer to the owner -- one of the friendliest, most accommodating restaurateurs in the Valley. He, his family, and his employees make you feel right at home the minute you step through the door. The food is exactly what it should be. We went here for the first time and food was actually pretty good. Sad thing is they have the biggest jerk idiot as a manager! Chepe came to our table and we told him the burrito that my son ordered was supposed to have steak, chicken, and shrimp in it but came out with ONLY steak. He had eaten maybe a quarter of it and realized he wasn't getting anything but the steak so he opened it to see if it had the other meats and it did NOT. We started out very nice and tried to show him. He said "I don't know if he already ate the rest so we can't do anything ". Are you SERIOUS??!!!! He just called us liars and thieves!!! After a few "choice" words we finished our meal and was paying for everything we ordered even though we didn't receive it!! The waitress came back to the table and said I'm sorry I don't have any change to give you back. I can only give you $10 of the $15 + I owe you. Luckily it wasn't her fault that she worked under an idiot so we let her keep it. I then tried to call the owner Marco. I was told he was not there but was in the Salem location. Service is fast and friendly. Was there on a Friday evening - it was busy but service was great. Prices are excellent. Hubby and I got 2 large beers, nachos supreme, burrito and 2 quesadilla for $34. Food Is great. Service not so much unless its the owner or his wife. There is a red head that also does a good job. But never seen a place charge for chips and salsa . Yea you get a small bowl but after your table has 2 bowls there is a up charge. The Bowles are very small. Also if you order anything that requires a tortilla you only get 2 very small ones. If you order alergra dip it dont come with chips? Seems they would take better care of there customers especially those who eat there many times a week. I hate to say but they lost about 8 good customers due to having to beg for chips and salsa . read more

We decided to eat at this place because it was convenient and had good reviews. We were seated immediately and our waiter, Enrique, was prompt with taking our order. That was the last time I saw him until we requested our check. He never came back to refill our drinks or chips and salsa. A different waiter brought our food out: fajitas and taquitos. Our fajitas were not sizzling, like another customer would received their fajitas before us. They didn't bring the tortillas or extra plates when we received our food. The waiter who brought our food said he would bring them but never did. We tried to flag down Enrique and he made eye contact with us but decided to serve 2 other tables. We finally flagged down a waitress for our missing food. By this point, 15 minutes had elapsed and our food was cold. The other person eating taquitos had finished his food at this point. Once we finally started eating our waiter came to check on us, 20 minutes after we received our food. The only reason I left 2 stars instead of one was the food was decent but lacked the spice that comes from Tex-Mex or Mexican food in general. When we finished eating, we found a hair in our food. At this point, we were so frustrated, we didn't even bring it to their attention. We were incredibly disappointed with the service we received at this restaurant. read more
