This is a wonderful restaurant with the most delicious authentic food I've ever experienced. I do wish they would make the corn flour tamales instead of using tortillas. But everything is so delicious and their guacamole is so fresh and delicious. read more

the service was so fast! everyone was so nice and checked on us often. will definitely come back!

Just finished a super late lunch/early dinner here - my first visit. It was DELICIOUS!! Had a Dos Equis and my boyfriend and I split an order of Chilaquiles! We added two fried eggs and it's probably the best Mexican food I've ever had! Plus we sat at the bar and were able to chat with Marco who was wonderful! HIGHLY recommend this place! read more

Best Mexican food in Lexington! You HAVE to try the spicy habenero salsa..... The food is plated well and tastes authentic. Ordered a side of pico and it was the freshest I have ever eaten. I highly recommend this place. read more

Went for lunch today. Service was a little slow mostly caused by my server having to take a to-go order over the phone. Food was what I expected but the failure was when I went to pay the bill. Apparently the servers are the cashiers, so when I went to pay she handed me a register slip showing my total and the change I was due since I had handed her a $20.00 bill. She excused herself to get change and came back and handed me 4 one dollar bills but not the change I was due. When I called her on it she had to borrow the change from another server. Had I known she was going to try and short change me I would not have left a 20% tip. I won't be back for along time plus there are more authentic Mexican restaurants in Roanoke that I prefer. Beware if you got her and count your change read more

Just ok, chips were cold and salsa was a little watery. Order wasn't exactly as ordered. But the cheese dip was great though!

Amazing find off I-81 en route to Virginia Tech from NJ. Had Enchiladas Verdes and rounded off with warm churros. What a pleasant surprise! read more

Muchacho Alegre - Mexican Near Me - Lexington, Virginia

The food was delicious but my husband ordered a cheese filled relleno but was served a chicken stuffed. He had the pick 3 and said the chicken tamale was excellent. He also had an enchilada. I had the pick 2. I ordered a cheese burrito and quesadilla but what I received was more like an enchilada and quesadilla. Overall a little pricy for what you get. Also note that if you get a 2nd bowl ( a couple of tablespoons) you will charged an extra $1.49. read more

Umm carnitas is supposed to be Mexican pulled pork. I ordered carnitas and got a huge chunk of fat with hardly any meat on it. The waitress never came around to refill our drinks. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because my coworker ordered fajitas and they looked delicious and he said they were delicious. read more

Larger interior than expected. Service was prompt, but they seemed to be missing many of the items on the menu. It was a Monday night and the Happy Hour Specials menu listed 99 cent mini lime margaritas as the Monday night deal. When I asked for one, I was told they had run out of the small glasses to serve the margaritas in, but they could give me a regular margarita for $5.99. How exactly does one run out of serving glasses by 5:30 PM on a Monday night? Anyway, moving on to the food. The chips and salsa were good and fresh. Our salsa was replenished as soon as we had finished the first bowl. I order the trio of tacos, but when I asked for the lengua (tongue), I was told they were all out of that too. So I ended up getting the pollo azado, carne azada, and barria fillings for the tacos. The menu stated that the tacos would be served with rice and beans, but my plate had no rice or beans. The taco meat was on the dry side, but flavorful. The accompanying dipping sauce was flavorful. My wife ordered a chicken dish with chorizo topping, which she said was pretty good, but on the salty side. Overall, the flavors seem more authentic than a typical chain Mexican restaurant, but don't be surprised if they've "run out of" what's on the menu or if your plate arrives missing items listed on the menu. There seem to be no other options for Mexican in Lexington (other than Taco Bell), so maybe this place will get better with time. read more

We have been going to their north US 11 property for years and this was my first experience trying this newer location. Since this is in the middle of the pandemic, we decided to do takeout. We ordered in advance and was told pickup would be 10 minutes. I got there in 20 and it was not ready, but not a big deal. The outside of the place is plastered with 'masks required' signs so I felt safe. On entry, about 5 PM on a Thursday, they told me my meal would be ready soon. A few seconds later, a person came out from the kitchen with my order. He did not have a mask on and motioned me over to pay. I had my mask on and asked him to put his on. He got rather annoyed with me, almost hostile, but pulled it up. Another one had his nose sticking out. I went to pay contact free as they posted outside and the man said tersely that did not work. I pulled out my contact free credit card and waved it over their reader and it worked fine. I left a nice tip, but got no thank-you but only obvious signs of annoyance. The meal was OK. Not worth going back for. read more

Stopped while cruising on 81, they've got the Mex in Tex-Mex down to a science. The serving size is plentiful, the food is amazing. I had the tacos- medium sized tortilla packed with whichever meat you please, and I was in heaven. The staff is helpful and really personable, fun to talk to. read more

The food was substantial but not much taste. I can deal with that. What I can't deal with is when I checked my bank app the next day, they charged me twice. I called them of course. Absolutely no willingness to refund my money. I even took a printout from the bank as proof to them, nothing. No refund. Now I'm having my bank dispute the extra charge. It's a shame they would need an extra $27.00 that bad. All I can say is if you want food with no taste and are willing to be charged multiple times, that's up to you. read more

I was very surprised at the food and the service! Seeing only 3.5 stars made me a bit leery of this location. My wife and I loved it the food was amazing and the service just as good! Recommend it for sure and will be back. read more

On a long trip and stopped here because of the convenience. This place exceeded every expectation. It was so good. We got the arroz con shrimp (forgot the Spanish term) and it was amazing! Traveling with my family who's not fond of eating out and they even loved it. Even thought about getting one to go because of the thought that we wouldn't be able to come back. If I ever come back to Virginia, I will def visit here . read more

Great review drew us here. Started with salsa and chips. Salsa had a nice flavor but lacked spice and pizazz. Ordered a 24 oz margarita (hey, it was a rough day)and very little liquor in it. Usually a normal size margarita knocks me on my butt, but this super sized one had no effect. Had the Texas fajita. Bland, no spice. The side dish had some tasteless mushy rice, a couple tablespoons of refried beans, and about a quarter cup of iceberg lettuce with a few chopped tomatoes and sour cream. Service was decent. On par with chain restaurants, pretty disappointing. read more

Worst Mexican ever!!! We were told it was some of the best Mexican in town and if that is the best...this town has a problem. We ordered STAKE TACOS not beef. They brought us beef and when we addressed a problem the waitress went to her manager not to fix it but to complain about her ungrateful costumers,us, we did not eat our food. Payed full price and left read more

Great meal! The chimichangas were amazing and the rice was delicious. The service is as wonderful the food. We will definitely be back!

This place was in the middle of nowhere and we were at the hotel across the street, turned out to be one of the cleanest and best mexican places I've been too. Definitely recommend read more

We were here at Washington & Lee University for a Lax game. Looked around for post game grub, and this place was recommended by some college kids. Good choice. Very authentic and made with fresh ingredients. Full menu and a full bar. Highly recommended. read more

This is the best Mexican option in Lexington, and the service could not be better. They have some delicious house tacos, kicked up with interesting meat options and slaw. I'd also recommend their margaritas, which aren't too sweet and actually have discernible tequila in them!! read more

Terrible food and even worse service. The restaurant was filthy, the bathroom was disgusting, and the waitress was awful. When the waitress messed up our order, she was angry and rude. We asked for the bill, paid, and left leaving the entire table of cold food behind. Stay far away!!! The health department should make a visit here....no way it would pass....ewwww. read more

Ordered fajitas for two, no guacamole ,no plastic ware, and the food is terrible, if anybody thinks this is good Mexican food, you have not ate real food!! Taco Bell makes better food than this place!! read more

Great food- excellent service! We visited this restaurant last month during our road trip. We thought it was just going to be okay when we went in, but right away we were greeted by very friendly waitstaff. The coronarita was yummy! All of our food was delicious - no complaints. Before we left, the manager came by and he was very friendly. If we ever drive through Lexington again this is where we would stop to eat. read more

This place is a gem. The staff is super nice, facility clean and very beautifully decorated. The food is delicious, plentiful and not at all expensive. Sunday was our first visit, but will not be our last. read more

It was ok. Standard Mexican restaurant. Been to others where the service and food was much better.

I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla and receive an Al a cart chicken quesadilla that was the size of a small chicken taco with no cheese and watered down shredded chicken for $3.90. I asked for guacamole and sour cream and it was more expensive than the chicken quesadilla aka chicken taco. Very disappointed. My meal ended up costing more than a full price dinner meal. When I asked about the price they just said that's the price and did nothing to compensate me. Why would I pay over $10 for 1 small tortilla and watered down shredded chicken? This was NOT A CHICKEN QUESADILLA. Every Mexican place I have ever ordered a chicken quesadilla from has salsa, sour cream and guacamole. The tortilla is at least a full size and there is plenty of chicken and cheese. :( read more

Among the best casual Mexican restaurants I've visited!!! I stopped by during a brief stay in town on a quiet Monday night. The parrillada was properly cooked and had great flavor. The service was great, the drinks cold, the food hot and fresh. I will definitely return here during my next visit to the area! It is worth the detour when traveling this way. read more

We were in Lexington for a VMI game and stayed at the adjacent hotel. The hotel staff mentioned we'd get 10% off at the restaurant so we tried it. Everything was absolutely delicious. The Chile rellenos are among the best I've ever had. The service was super It was so good we went again the next day after the game. This time the food was equally good - service not as good Overall big thumbs up. Don't judge a book by its cover!! read more

We were pleasantly surprised when we tried MA for the first time. I was expecting it to be like every other mediocre Mexican place (and the other in town), but alas- the food actually reminded us of eating in Mexico. Very nice staff and good specials, Devils Backbone on tap, lovely patio. Agree that some things aren't clear-like the kids meal comes with ice cream, unless it's kids eat free night (Monday)- then the ice cream isn't included. read more

"Muchacho Alegre" (Cheerful Boy) could well refer to the owner -- one of the friendliest, most accommodating restaurateurs in the Valley. He, his family, and his employees make you feel right at home the minute you step through the door. The food is exactly what it should be. The margaritas strike just the right balance of sweet, tart, and salty. The tab won't set you back a whole day's work. What's not to love? read more

OK place when you're traveling through the area. Average Mexican restaurant. Good service. Beer etc available.
