HUH??? What did you say?? The volume of the music system at Mt Royal almost shoves you back out the door ... you can feel the sound and I don't even begin to imagine the damage being done inside the ears of the bar keeps at this inn that has been standing on this corner for more than 100 years (Foundation must be good to withstand the thundering sounds ... did I mention it is LOUD IN HERE!!)! Even my glasses were shaking. Friendly staff but frankly I could not hear what my multiple draft choices were so I meekly said "I will have that first IPA." She replied "you nt the ore dub?' Or something like that ... I smiled and said yes. I hate QR menus but oh well. Specials and signatures are there along with the menu ... I find myself moving with the music but not sure it's by my choice or by the reverberation of sound. By the way, I am seated in a side room off the main bar area where the sound is blitzing the atmosphere! They also have some outdoor seating... highly recommended! 'I am rockin' in the USA' oops, sorry just started singing LOUDLY!! it's my birthday so what the heck even if I never hear again I am going to sing loud and out of key ... no one can hear me or even their own inner thoughts. Going "Buffalo" tonight because I have heard how good their 'wings' are plus they have Buffalo's traditional fish fry of beer battered haddock. And, it's my birthday!! Nice to be acknowledged by some BILLS' Fans or at least I think they said something good about my team because I am wearing Bills' colors. I think someone just collapsed from the sound ... a scream ... the music is 80's and 90's with a beat that literally moves you. I should have gone outside .. I reality should have. Menu has a nice selection of sandwiches... Suddenly the music's volume has returned to an acceptable level of loudness and the food arrived. Grabbed a fry and it was a really good fry! The fish offered the look of a wee bit long in the fryer but if a timer was buzzing earlier in the kitchen the cook could not have heard it. The wings dripped sauce... blue cheese hidden but it was there. However, NO CELERY ... NO CARROTS & no cole slaw with the fish ... I was in fry city. If you serve WINGS you serve CELERY! The wings frankly are not the best in South Jersey not even the best in the county. They however were "not bad" although in keeping pace with the fish they were not juicy and obviously over-fried. The good news they were not battered, which seems to be South Jersey kitchen's favorite way to prep the wings made famous in Buffalo, NY. Whatever beer I picked was pretty good (Bonesaw). I watched others struggling with the QR coded menu and absently tapped my fingers to music whose lyrics were hard to comprehend because my ears were blown out earlier. Bartender is also waiting tables so I patiently waited ... checked for cotton in my ears. Signed off ...20 percent tip, she is working hard. I came for my birthday to get really good, "best wings" according to some, and I am leaving with my inner ears muffled in their ability to process sound not impressed with their bar food nor atmosphere. They say this place has lots of history but frankly it is H-I-S-T-O-R-Y to me. I strongly urge management to limit the volume of the music, which was at an acceptable level as I left (Unless, I lost that much of my hearing earlier and it's still loud.). If you are attempting to provide meals to folks those drinking at the bar need to accept loud music rather than what welcomed me. read more

Its really to post this rating for this inn, me and my husband have been going there for years, but recently we ordered shrimp your way, with the bacon wrapped around it and it's either burnt or over cooked, and the other night we ordered food to go and sat there waiting for 45 minutes and no one said our food was ready. And when we checked on what was taking so long, they said it just got done. But when we got home everything was cold and soggy, clearly it was sitting for some time. We have never had this issue with this bar, but this is very disappointing. I don't know if there's any new changes with this place, but it's a shame. read more

Went for the history and precious time with my son, after all, 1762 was a long time ago. Aside from the structure. There was nothing else suggesting historical except my knowledge of the "Inns" utility. Still I could feel a presence. Service was friendly and attentive. There's always a place or two that you can't find a good reason or heard of any to stop in... Well, this place has fit that description for over 20+ years... Then a wings debate on my townships FB page gave me the alibi to finally stop in. With so many people naming MRI, I went in for a takeout order... I expected another false alarm. Another confirmation of my palate vs their pallet... Well, these wings were awesome!! Large, but not the biggest. Cooked perfectly. And the house sauce that they're tossed in is what made these wings a winner... Thanks FB... I'm glad that I didn't skip over the poll. Been some time since being at this historical Inn. They have made changes and outside tables are now available. Last night was fun with appetizers that were very good, onion rings and shrimp . Heaters warmed the area and a good time was had by all. My friends also enjoyed their food. read more

Food and drinks are very good if you can get it. Management obviously doesn't care. Wait staff was an older gentleman who walked by us twice and didn't even say hello or take a drink order. Best wings in SJ? Are you kidding me? These were the worst wings I have ever had and the most expensive to boot ($19.00). Wings were small, dried out and looked like stale wings from a week ago. This was the second time I've tried this place. Once with the old owners and now with the current owners. They need to take lessons from Domininc's Tavern and The Oaklyn Manor for the best wings in SJ. Never suggesting this place again. Food has started to decline here as they've expanded. The food in the bar and take out has been served completely over cooked and burnt. When I first started ordering chicken pot pies from here they came with a top crust as all chicken pot pies should. Now they just serve it with a bottom crust and completely open on the top. Stumbled in for 1st time as strangers. Left as family! The owner and his staff are awesome people. The regulars are welcoming and so friendly. This is a definite return! Went there for the first time. And it was okay. The service does take forever. We wait maybe a half hour before our drink order was taken.

Cash only so heads up on that. Great little dive bar with a great roast pork sandwich, great wings, decent tap selection with some crafts, your standards like yuengling, etc... parking is on side, not behind fyi. Bartenders are hard working, great music as well. Overall, if you love dive bars, places locals will welcome you, stop on in and belly up. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. We just sat down and ordered our first drinks & weren't even in the bar for 20 mins. One of the people working there came up to us and told us & says last call is in 30 minutes. So I told him oh OK, but online it says you guys close at 2am. And he states to me I can make last call in 5 minutes. So I said to him oh OK if that's what you wanna do that that's what you should do. He tells us finish your drinks and get out. So we paid and we're trying to finish our drinks. The guy starts turning the lights off and the TVs off. That is so unprofessional and I've never been to a bar like that. What happened to good customer service and the customer is always right. I don't know if he is the partial owner or just a worker there but he was very rude. I don't recommend going here. I've never actually been in this establishment but I've been ordering from them through Door Dash. Their food is awesome although very expensive. Their chicken quesadillas are phenomenal with their homemade salsa. It has a sweet taste that just really sets it apart from any other quesadilla I've tried. It's probably one of the best ones I've had to be honest. Fried corn bites are awesome too. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the price.. $8 for a side of fries that would normally be $3-$4 elsewhere.. they are super expensive but the food is great so I don't mind splurging every once in a while. read more

Honestly I've had great vists here, but this once just ruined all of them to be frank. My party went out on a very dead Monday, and waited 40 minutes until a waitress came in, regardless we weren't mad we just wanted to order, the problem was on top of messing up our order( and leaving those mess ups on the bill) there was a 40-50 minute gap in between each time we saw our waitress again. In top of all this, we are 90% sure she added a 0 onto her tip as we used card and gave herself $50. I can't do much as I don't have the receipt now nor was the one handle one the card but I do believe my freinds word on this one. I've had great vists and great pork work there, the food was good, but I'm saddened to say after this one I really will never come back if this is the norm. read more

Listen. I'm over 40 and feel way too old to be out in the club or bars but guess what? I didn't feel that way when I came to visit Mt. Royal for a night out pre covid. Bartenders were friendly and attentive. Nice drink selection. Music was awesome. Did not get the chance to try anything from the menu (curious to try the wings since the reviews are so positive). Great local place to go! Very nice bartender and prices are really inexpensive. The food is your typical bar menu but it is tasty. A variety of beers on tap and a nice range of liquors for mixed drinks. They also have a carry-out section for food and alcohol. Definitely a spot to check out if you want a local hangout or need to stop to pick up something on the way home. read more

My wife and I stopped in for dinner around 7:30, after reading a review that they had a dinner menu. We went on a Tuesday night, their live music evening. The keyboard singer/soloist may have been good, had we stayed long enough to hear more than one song. It was so loud that I had to yell to the bartender for my order, and he was only two feet from me. A woman showed us to a high table with tall chairs, but didn't take any orders, offer a menu, or even know what was on tap. I finally found a menu, which was primarily high fat/cholesterol appetizers and flat-bread pizzas. We didn't see anyone eating anything,or smell food cooking, so we're still wondering if they cook on music night. They had a small dining room off of the bar area, but not a soul in there. The bar, however, was packed. My wife gulped down her diet soda sans carbonation, and I my beer, and we left to find a diner. Don't think we'll consider the Mt. Royal Inn for food. read more
