I'm surprised to see Mt. Auburn Electric isn't already on Yelp since I know they've been around a good long time. I suspect it's because they are such a good, old-fashioned business that they are plenty busy with mainstay and word of mouth customers. They are the preferred electrician in my apartment building, which is an old 1920's building with lath and plaster walls and surely presents some challenges to electricians at times. Mt Auburn came to our place to install some light fixtures and replace old recessed cans with smaller, nicer ones. John Sousa came to our place to talk over the job and he did such a thorough job going through our options. He came up with some excellent tricks to make our entire place look better (we were only focusing on one room) namely, replacing the black liners in our old recessed cans with new white liners at very little cost. He walked us through the choices for the new smaller cans, explaining incandescent vs. halogen, light colors, and urging us to go to Wolfer's to check out what we wanted. John basically helped up with lighting design, at no extra cost, and gave us enough information to make an informed decision when we went to Wolfer's. By the way, we actually purchased the halogen lights from Wolfer's, vs having Mt. Auburn provide them, and I am glad we did, as there didn't seem to be as wide a selection among the products Mt. Auburn usually uses. John also helped us replace our faulty smoke detectors, which had been driving us nuts for months. On the day the work was to be done, John and a helper did an awesome, thorough job, and our dining room (and entire apartment ) look SO much better. And the price was very reasonable! Basically these electricians were very helpful, did great work, and made every effort to keep costs low for us. I appreciated that, because my husband and I are newbies at this stuff and could easily have been taken advantage of. The only downside was that John was so busy this summer that it was very hard to schedule an appointment/reach him for a while. That's summer in Cambridge though. Once we did connect though, the service was great. Merry Christmas Mt. Auburn Electric! read more
