We'd tried to replace a kitchen light switch and caused a spark in the circuit breaker box, leaving us with darkness in two rooms. John and his people are fantastic! Earlier this year, I found myself back in my mother's home in Massachusetts, managing her life while she recovered from a broken leg. I had two non-working GFCI outlets (that I knew of) that I wanted fixed. Matt turned up at the appointed time with a second electrician. They were professional and systematic in diagnosing the problems, and eventually found more failed GFCI outlets and some other minor wiring problems. They replaced two GFCI outlets, corrected some minor wiring errors, and will send me a quote for a different problem that will require running a separate cable. Both electricians listened to what I had to say, were professional and knowledgeable, and couldn't have been more pleasant to deal with. They were happy to explain in detail what they were doing and discuss options. I'm a few courses short of a EE degree so I'm confident everything they said was accurate and fair. Their hourly rate for 2 people was less than the rate from another well-reviewed company for a single electrician. Just a great experience working with them. I had an issue with one of my hanging kitchen pendant lights. The manufacturer sent me a replacement light but it was not a straightforward install. The device was hard-wired and it required cutting a length of power cable. They responded quickly with a reasonable quote and got the job done in 1.5 hours. During the install, Ilya noticed that the replacement wire was a different color than the original and went the extra step to Sharpie the other one black to match. My experience with this company was not good at all. I needed electrician help for a time-sensitive project. I have called Kinney Electric well in advance, scheduled an appointment with them at least ten days ahead, and confirmed this appointment by email with their office later. At the time of appointment, they simply did not show up; no advance notice. Instead, they sent me an email casually suggesting rescheduling the appointment in two weeks, and when I informed them that this would not work for me, they just never responded. Kinney Electric was super responsive when we contacted them in the fall of 2023. They sent out two employees who walked the property with me took extensive photographs of the house including the electrical panel and the wiring in the basement. We didn't receive a quote so I contacted them in January 2024 2-3 months after they came for the walkthrough. I was told that the quote had been overlooked and that John would get back to me. When I didn't hear back in about 10 days I contacted them again. Finally received an email from John saying that since we had knob and tune wiring (we don't) they would need to come out and do a knob and tube inspection. After I replied that we don't have knob and tube wiring and that he must be looking at the wrong photos we never heard from him again! So zero stars but apparently I have to give them 1 star to post this. I was surprised by our experience based on the other Yelp reviews and our initial interactions. read more

There was a quick response to my initial call to when and in-home estimate was done with safety measures taken. Work began pretty quickly. Amazing all around! I bought a dilapidated cottage -- dated 1800, vacant for a year, and with no permitted work done to it after 1982 -- to renovate and sell. While it was a small home, it was a massive undertaking. For each sub I hired, I interviewed at least 3. All were excellent, and Kinney was no exception. Their quote was well below one other electrician and slightly below the third, but of the three, they were the most responsive and communicative throughout the hiring process. More so, they maintained this level of fast and open communication throughout the work. They did not buck when there were changes to the schedule, but did their best to accommodate. They installed a new electrical panel; updated all electrical in the house to code; installed new outlets and switches; and installed lights, fans, vents, etc. The were neat and courteous throughout. The house easily passed inspection. Now I am hiring them for some electrical work we need at our primary residence. I would not hesitate to work with them again! read more
