I rarely write reviews, but Jim from JDO Electric deserves one. Over the July 4th weekend, our home's electrical system started failing--outlets flickering, some completely dead. Jim was the only electrician to return my call promptly and was at our home within an hour. He quickly diagnosed the problem and provided a temporary fix. Ultimately, he recommended and completed a full upgrade to a 200-amp service, including a new panel and extensive rewiring. He and his assistant Austin were professional, communicative, clean, and respectful--especially while we worked from home. The entire job took about a week and a half. We're very happy with the results and highly recommend JDO Electric for anyone needing reliable, high-quality electrical work. read more

I highly recommend Jim deOliveira (JDO), of JDO Electric, for any electrical projects you may have. He has completed several electrical projects for me. His attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work is evident in every project he has completed for me. Most recently, I had my bathroom remodeled, and JDO updated all the wiring, which had not been updated in 55 years. He helped me decide on new recessed lighting in the ceiling over the tub, over the vanity, and outside the linen closet. He also installed a bathroom heater/fan/light/night light and an outlet in the closet for my electric toothbrush. We asked Jim to replace our hardwired fire alarms with a new brand that would work better than our current ones. I had a lot of questions and must haves for the new brand because of how frustrated and unhappy we were and he was very patient and knowledgeable spending time, on the phone first and then in person for the quote, to find a good solution and the best alarms for our needs. His quote was reasonable and he was able to do the work the next day. He and his assistant did a great job and I would highly recommend JDO Electric! read more

This contractor made us wait all weekend to come and fix a constantly ringing alarm and came Monday and installed used and faulty batteries and charged us $350. He didn't fix the problem and ripped us off. read more

JDO is - by far - the best electrician I've ever worked with for making some panel changes and installing a 3rd meter and panel in our 2-family home. He showed up on time, gave a reasonable quote, did MORE than he originally quoted, and left the place cleaner than he found it. His assistant was courteous - and the two of them did the work quickly, getting all the work done early. I will DEFINITELY use them again, and I recommend them highly! Btw - beware of the so-called "electricians" that advertise online. Many of them are unlicensed, and if something goes wrong, this could affect your insurance coverage. Don't mess around - only hire a licensed electrician (JDO has a Master Electrician's license). read more

A couple years ago I used JDO Electric and was pleased with the experience, with one minor gripe that it was a bit slow going from when I first contacted him to when the work actually got done. But since we were happy with the quality of work last time, we decided to go with JDO again this time-- and this time, I have no complaints about the speed at all. I contacted Jim right before leaving town for a week; a couple days after I got back to town he stopped by to provide an estimate, and he came back the very next day to do the job, even though it was a pretty small one (upgrading two circuit breakers and installing a weatherproof outdoor outlet) that many electricians wouldn't bother making the time for. Jim is also helpful at explaining technical details on request, which for a person like me who likes to understand how things work but has very limited understanding of electrical systems, is really appreciated. read more

Jim was excellent with all the work he performed. Needed to replace a faulty bathroom combination fan/light switch that kept throwing the circuit in our tenants apt. I tried to fix it myself but couldn't stop the circuit from being thrown. So after some local research and calling other electricians in an emergency situation but no luck, I found JDO that would come out asap. Jim called me back and we setup a tentative rough time for the next day. Jim kept me updated as his schedule is very busy. The found the root cause after some analysis that the old wire leading into the receptical was frayed and causing a short when it contacted the metal box. He took it all apart, fixed the wires safely, reassembled and completed the job in no time. He cleaned up afterwards. The price was reasonable and within my expectations. I am recommending JDO for all your electrical needs. And supporting local businesses is always a positive. Jim is very friendly, professional and skilled. Installation of power outlet for flat screen TV. The outlet was installed above the fireplace (which likely added to the cost)-the wire had to be raised so that it wasn't too close to the hot fireplace. Also the switchbox was on the other side of the house so it had to be run across the entire basement. I called Jim and he responded quickly. We set up a time and he showed up promptly. He clearly explained the work he needed to do and gave me the estimate then and there. I was surprised how much it cost ($495), but I think it was a function of both the additional complexity of the fireplace, and my lack of knowledge about the cost of electrical work. Nevertheless, it still seems a bit on the steep side. I got home and the outlet looked great. The hole in the wall was patched, spackled and painted. I'll probably have to go over it again with more spackle, but otherwise it was fine. read more

When you do not really know people in the trades, you take a chance. Based on reviews, JDO Electric turned out to be an excellent choice to replace the smoke alarms in my apartment. Mine were old and no longer to code. Jim was very responsive to my call and and readily fit me into his schedule. Now I have all new up-to-date smoke and CO detectors and a reliable, friendly electrician to call in the future and recommend to others. read more

Jim was good about answering emails and set an appointment very quickly. He showed up and was very professional and detail oriented. Pointed out some issues that had been overlooked by the original installers and recommended a resolution. Not only did he come quickly when our hot water went out, and instructed us how to fix the situation ourselves next time, but he installed a new thermostat and stuck with us as we troubleshooted it with the thermostat company. JDO Electric wired a sensor light on our porch. It worked for about a year, then stopped. We opened the fixture to replace the light bulbs, and we found that JDO had put 60W bulbs in a fixture that specifies a maximum 25W for bulbs. The bulbs fried the wiring, and they were a fire hazard! We replaced the entire fixture ourselves and won't use JDO again. read more

Overnight, we lost electricity for our light fixtures and there was a burnt electrical smell. It was pretty horrible. I signed up for Angie's list to find people to call. I contacted JDO Electric first and am happy I did! I contacted JDO Electric first thing in the morning (7 am). He said he was busy but was able to come out right away. He said the first hour would be the emergency rate of 195/hour, that is the emergency fee. I said fine. He arrived a couple hours later. Found the source of the problem and fixed it. He was amicable and quickly fixed my issue. I plan on hiring him again to come and do a Knob and Tube estimate, which involves opening every electrical outlet to check the wiring. read more

My condo association, and my wife and I personally, have used JDO Electric a couple of times and are very satisfied. Very highly recommended. Today, Jim came out and discovered that what I thought was a problem... actually wasn't. Who knew that a dimmer switch could get warm if you were dimming a bunch of overhead lights?? Not me. Jim also answered a couple of other questions and gave a bit of advice on how to fix them. All for no charge. Where do you see that these days?!? The first time we had used them, Jim and his assistant showed up right on time and got right to work. Our condo association's common area smoke detectors had gone off randomly, etc. They blew the dust out of them, replaced batteries and tested them all (approx 12 total). JDO did the breaker box for the previous owner. The home inspector opened the panel, and it was a work of art, the best he'd ever seen. So when I needed some lighting added to the living room, dining room, and hallway, I called JDO. Jim gave me a detailed quote. The cost of adding lights to the hallway seemed like not a good bang for the buck, but Jim did not try to upsell me. Jim and his assistant showed up on time, fully prepared, and spent the better part of 2 days doing the wiring. I would highly recommend Jim and his work. Our condo had 2 jobs to be done and had estimates from another electrician of $1900 and $520 respectively (in both cases he said that the systems had to be replaced). Jim came by to give an estimate and was able to repair (no replacement necessary) the first system for $175 right then. He later returned with some parts and was able to repair (no replacement necessary) the second system for $177. So a savings of over $2000 overall! JDO electric did a meticulous job with the installation of a ceiling fan (along with all new wiring to power it). They were on time, gave an up-front estimate, and spackled the few holes that needed to be made for the new wiring. I was most impressed by how attentive to detail they were: the fan runs silently (perfect!), the spackling is going to be very easy to paint over, and they cleaned up so well it was hard to tell work had been done that day. We were very impressed with the quality of the work and plan to call again in the future if we have other electrical projects. read more
