Mr W Workshop is the best watch repair shop in town; it is a cozy watch/jewelry repair shop that is run by Willis Wong. The shop is neatly decorated by Willis' creations that included various complex lego sets. When I go into Willis' shop, I feel at ease sitting on one of his stylish red chairs while admiring his lego creations and listening to the soft music he plays. Ever since I discovered Mr W Workshop in Aberdeen Square a few years ago, I never go to another watch repair shop for my watches. I have been wearing watches all my life and until I met Willis, I did not know people went to school to learn how to repair watches! I was blown away when I saw the certificates on his wall when I was waiting to be served. During my first visit with Willis, I was impressed by his knowledge base and experience in his trade, how swiftly and meticulously he worked while tending to details. I had brought a very valuable watch (in terms of sentimental value) to him to replace the battery during my initial visit. It was a gift from a former boss who has passed away from cancer years ago. When I saw the level of care Willis put into tending to my watch, I was so moved that I wrote him a long letter by snail mail afterwards to express my gratitude. I had gone there to change the battery of my watch, and while responding to my request, Willis saw that the waterproof ring aged and recommended replacement. I took his expert advice on it. When he was done his job, he handed me back a shiny watch that he had cleaned without my asking. What service! Another thing worth mentioning is that Willis' service is client-centered. Last month, I went in to change the battery of my valuable watch. Seeing that it is an older watch and that it means so much to me, Willis had asked if I wanted to have a make-over of my watch. I asked for a quote and agreed to the job. I asked him how long would it take. He estimated that it may take a couple hours due to the complexity of my watch and the parts he needed to do the job. I told him I would leave the watch with him and pick it up another day. Upon hearing me say that, he asked me to wait and see if he could speed up the process and save me a trip. True to his word he did! And what's more, I left his shop with a watch that closely resembles how it looked when it was gifted to me almost 20 years ago! I am happy that I discovered this gem in Richmond and would recommend Mr W Workshop to all my friends who wear watches. read more

Willis is the most honest watchrepairer I know of. He will tell you straight what is wrong with your watch and whether it is worth your money to have it repaired. My mother too has had great service and advice from Willis. For example, my mother had a Seiko quartz watch for over 10 years (I bought it new for her in Asia) and it worked fine. But then one day she got her watch's battery replaced at that jewelery store on the 2nd floor of Richmond's Public Market. She left it with the man at the public market jewelry story for an hour while she got something to eat. The public market jewelry store man charged her $8 or something like that. Her Seiko seemed fine, but then stopped after a couple of months. She went to Willis, at my suggestion, to get the battery replaced this time. Willis told her that the inner mechanism was not a Seiko brand. Apparently, the man at the Public Market jewelery store took the Seiko part out of her quartz watch and put in an inferior part! read more

I brought my Swiss Jowissa watch here for a simple battery replacement, and they completely ruined the internal seals and alignment. When I looked at it closely I saw heavy moisture condensation trapped entirely inside the crystal, fogging up the dial because they failed to seal the gasket properly. Worse, the internal face movement was handled so aggressively that the dial plate shifted, leaving the brand star logo completely twisted out of place. When I brought it back to have their mistake corrected, the technician completely lacked accountability. Instead of apologizing, he tried to gaslight me by repeatedly asking if I had washed my hands or wet it myself. Water does not magically rotate an internal watch dial. No apology, no professionalism, and zero ownership of the physical damage they caused. Avoid this place if you value your time or your jewelry. They are careless and dishonest. read more

I had a scratched up hardlex crystal on my Seiko divers watch that I wanted replaced with a sapphire one instead. I haven't even enjoyed wearing this watch over the last few years because of it. The problem with replacing it with another hardlex is I know I'll have it scratched all over again within a month. The original one was domed and only a flat sapphire one that was 1 mm thinner could be ordered. I went with it and Willis did a perfect job. The non-domed crystal looks and feels completely natural. He even disassembled and went over every single part! The necessary ones were cleaned/lubricated along with all gaskets replaced and a waterproofing test performed. All handed back to me with the correct time and date adjusted. More than reasonable prices and very detail oriented. Trust your watches with Willis! read more

So I am new to the area and had a wide gold link bracelet that came apart in several places. Its always nerve-wracking to trust your loved possessions to an unknown. However Mr. Wong went above and beyond. I waited to do this review as I have had the same bracelet 'fixed' only to have it come apart within days. I highly recommend this place. A little difficult to find as another reviewer said, but Willis does excellent work for a fair price. He repaired my watch, and I broke it again not soon after. I brought it back. He took it and proceeded to tinker with it at his desk for about half an hour. Gave me the watch back as good as new. Willis took on the challenge of rebuilding my vintage Seiko with other than original parts - he completed this while I waited, and at a reasonable price. One week later, I stopped by once more as I needed the crown and watchband adjusted; Mr W once again performed this right away, and made sure I was happy with the adjustments. Quick and easy! I went to Mr W to change my watch batteries and Mr W did it in 10 mins. He was helpful and rest assured for his professional service with luxury watches! I didn't want to spend a fortune on changing batteries for my watch and Mr W was able to charge at a very reasonable price for the service. Service is good. I had 5 watch batteries changed while I wait. Mr. W is very competent to fix even premium/expensive watches. Price is reasonable.
