Found myself needing a new "watch guy" because my former one passed away. I wanted to replace batteries in two watches and have one band changed. I went in and was immediately greeted by the two owners. They were very friendly and chatty. We talked watches for a while and I mentioned I needed a band changed in my Invicta. I brought a new band in but after examination we decided it was too flimsy. Shawn (I think) just happened to have several options handy and we landed on a blue rubber one. My watches were fixed up in no time. I just felt like I was there to shoot the breeze about watches instead of being another rando customer. I will definitely tell my buddies about this place. They specialize in watches and clocks from what I saw. Give them a look if you're in need of friendly and prompt watch or clock service. I will definitely be back.

Shawn found a minor issue with the hairspring and tweaked it, AT NO CHARGE, so now the watch is running well.

Thank you, Tim Morales at Benjamin & Sons for selling me a Grandfather clock that keeps good time,…read morechimes very pleasantly, and looks very good. First, I contacted Tim about a new Howard Miller mantle clock that was having issues. He did the warranty work on it. But, Howard Miller is going out of business, and the quality of their clocks seems not to be what they used to produce. Second, he worked on a 1920 Herschede mantle clock I bought on eBay. With me standing there, he pulled out the mechanism and it was clear that a part was broken. Plus, it did not look at all like the photo posted by the clocksmith on eBay who sold it to me. Tim did what he could. The reason I bought those clocks is that I want a mechanical clock that keeps good time, and neither of them do. But many Grandfather Clocks do keep good time, and I knew that Tim has some. So, after a conversation with him, I bought a 1988 Ridgeway Grandfather Clock from him. Tim and his son delivered the clock, set it up, and Tim gave me a brief overview. He also had the manual and original paperwork for me. It's beautiful, and after a few adjustments it is accurate to within a few seconds. It does play three different chimes, but I love the Winchester chimes, and this clock sounds wonderful. I expect to have it for the rest of my life. Note: Yelp says I'm in California. No, I'm in Olympia, WA.

It's a small place that you can very easily drive by. In fact, I did, but only once. It's in…read moremixed-use development, with businesses on the ground floors of some buildings and apartments up top. The first couple times I turned down this road, I was certain the directions were wrong, because it looks so residential. But never fear. There's even parking, usually. Mr Park has a small shop with a few display cases showing off rings, bracelets, and other jewelry. Lots of sparkles. There are a few old-fashioned mantle clocks (I have kind of a thing for these), and a few miscellaneous other decorative items. Signs say he buys gold. He sits at a workbench behind the cases, and seems to do a steady business in watch and clock repair. I brought in a new watch I'd gotten for Christmas that needed links added to the band. Off-the-shelf watches are always too small for my meathead wrists. He didn't happen to stock extra links, but I got a few from the customer service department of the watch manufacturer. He got right to work the second I came in, and tapped it all together while I sat in his one chair. $10 to take a watch I couldn't even fit over my hand and turn it into something I can wear comfortably whenever I want. It took him maybe 5 minutes. Mr Park isn't the chattiest person you've ever met. He didn't even shoot the breeze with me at all until he was ringing me out. But he's a friendly, nice guy once the work is done. Watch and clock people always seem to be hyper-focused, from what little I know. Given how much more he smiled after tuning up my watchband, I think that might be his vibe. I have a mantle clock that doesn't always run and I think I might be back here to tune that up when I think of it.
