I was very clear from the beginning that I wasn't particularly concerned with how much it was worth. I told them I was open to potentially selling something, but what I really wanted was to understand what I actually had, especially what the stones were. Instead, the man immediately started grabbing my pieces, dumping them all together onto his plate, and handling them very roughly, scraping them against things without asking me first. These are heirloom pieces that have sentimental value to me whether they are worth $10 or $10,000, and I was honestly shocked by how carelessly they were being handled. I repeatedly tried to explain that I understood they might not be worth much and that I DID NOT CARE. I kept asking if he could simply tell me what the stones were or give me some information about the pieces because that was why I came in. He just kept responding with some version of, "Well, it's not worth anything." I KNOW. That was not what I was asking. I wanted to learn about jewelry I inherited from someone who supposedly knows jewelry. Instead, it felt like he was only interested in quickly going through everything to see whether there was money to be made. He barely seemed interested in actually looking at the pieces or answering the questions I was asking. What makes this worse is that we were not only there about my heirloom jewelry. We were also looking around because I am interested in buying jewelry in the future. This experience completely changed that. I would never buy jewelry from this business after the way I was treated. By the end, I told him I just wanted my jewelry back and that I was no longer interested in selling anything to him because he had been incredibly rude and dismissive. I tried one last time to explain that this was never about whether my jewelry was valuable. It was about wanting to understand pieces that mattered to me and hoping someone knowledgeable would be willing to take a few minutes to help me. Based on this experience, I would not trust this business with my heirloom jewelry, I would not trust them enough to buy jewelry from them, and I would not feel comfortable relying on their pricing or customer service. The entire interaction gave me the impression that making a sale or finding something valuable mattered far more than actually helping or respecting the person standing in front of them. I came in hoping to learn something and potentially become a future customer planning to buy something for my birthday. Both are masters of clock history and clock repair as well as offering an amazing retail sales floor ranging from a huge castle grandfather clock to cuckoo and "character " clocks. Karen, also fondly known as "Cuckoo Karen," has a back room that looks like a scientist's or genius's laboratory. Jody repairs wall clocks and watches and also has a reputation for fixing lamps! Their communication after customers drop off clocks are awesome, and they welcome post service calls if there is still a problem.

There are a few old-fashioned mantle clocks (I have kind of a thing for these), and a few miscellaneous other decorative items. Signs say he buys gold. He sits at a workbench behind the cases, and seems to do a steady business in watch and clock repair. I brought in a new watch I'd gotten for Christmas that needed links added to the band. Off-the-shelf watches are always too small for my meathead wrists. He didn't happen to stock extra links, but I got a few from the customer service department of the watch manufacturer. He got right to work the second I came in, and tapped it all together while I sat in his one chair. $10 to take a watch I couldn't even fit over my hand and turn it into something I can wear comfortably whenever I want. It took him maybe 5 minutes. Mr Park isn't the chattiest person you've ever met. He didn't even shoot the breeze with me at all until he was ringing me out. But he's a friendly, nice guy once the work is done. Watch and clock people always seem to be hyper-focused, from what little I know. Given how much more he smiled after tuning up my watchband, I think that might be his vibe. I have a mantle clock that doesn't always run and I think I might be back here to tune that up when I think of it.

A "refurbished" Seiko Alpinist. $188.00, $50 in shipping, $34 in tariff fees, (thank you very little you know who). I knew it was a gamble. It gained four or five minutes per hour. I hoped an adjustment or some work could at least make the watch serviceable. Walked into ARC, no appointment. Kelsy greeted me, directed me to Masami, who stopped his work to look at my watch, he politely identified it as a counterfeit, and said he would adjust the watch (NO CHARGE) to make it as good as it could be. "Would you mind waiting 15 minutes, sir?" What, really?! While Masami adjusted my Fakeo, Kelsy showed me about ten watches that I liked, (an hour), answered my questions, had great acumen, demeanor, and professional poise without projecting attitude or qualifying me, treated me like I was the only one in the store, and confirmed a thing or two she wasn't 100% sure of. Excellent. I don't trust anyone who claims to know everything. I wound up buying a beautiful and very reasonably priced (less than $350 out the door) Seiko and identified another that I will buy in the future. IT GETS BETTER! I asked Masami if installing new guts in my Fakeo would be a good idea, as I don't care about the status, I just like the looks of the watch and want it to keep time. He said he could do that, gave me an estimate, and said that just buying the authentic model would be a better financial path for the long term. I agreed. Always buy the best quality you can afford. Also, as I was checking out, I saw a watch that was beautiful, but redundant, with respect to my purchase, and as I asked a question about the band, Kelsy, being honest, wasn't quite positive about the answer... So one of the store owners, overhearing, (sorry I cannot recall her name and spelling), came over and explained the details to answer my question! AND she interrupted an in person interview to do so! AMAZING. So, the price of an education in a field where money can chase unlimited ends was, for me, a value and a lesson learned for not a disasterous price. And, I found a business that I can TRUST, and recommend. Readers, this is where you should take your watch, engraving and timepiece repair needs. The parts I supplied were not perfect and Sam was able to modify them so I could end up with my desired end goal. Removing the bezel from the duro is notoriously difficult, and some say impossible without damage to the watch but he was able to complete it (old bezel was bent but that's expected). When I arrived he said it was $30 for a battery change and $25 for a link change (he said if I needed two links which I had, but was missing one of the two pins that would be needed to hold the links together, it would be an additional $10 for the part). I tried to haggle as it is a cash only business, to which he added sales tax to the service. So just over 60 dollars for a battery change and one link put-on. I personally think he was overcharging $5-$10 per service performed (in this case, two). However, he is an expert with years of experience and one of the very few watch makers available in the area. Also, you don't have to ship your watch if you don't want to (like many places require nowadays). There are various ATM's close-by within walking distance. It took Mike about 15 minutes and I would recommend but, must know he is firm with his business and signs are posted that sales are final whether your watch works afterwards or not.
