A man came to my door last week, unsolicited, asking about giving me a quote to take down our obviously dead. very tall, pine trees. I normally don't respond to service providers who come to the door and just ask them to leave their card. He (Doug) said that they "were in the neighborhood working in another yard and would give me a deal if we could get something done today." I don't usually believe this schtick, but my sons were home and he was courteous and not pushy, so I said what the heck, let's go look. I had similar work quoted in the past so I knew the price range. Doug and his associate Chadwick quoted me a number higher than the cheap guys without insurance and lower than some of the pros with insurance and recommendations that we'd used previously. We weren't willing to risk using the cheaper guys with trees this size and didn't have the budget for the pros, so that's why nothing had gotten done. The Mr. Tree guys also agreed to do a couple smaller trees and have all the stumps ground as well. Now they had my attention. I said I had to talk to my husband and a get a work reference from them. I liked that they didn't get irritable or pushy but just said they would provide their insurance info and needed to know soon as the crew was finishing up with their other job. They also mentioned an area builder as a reference. I happened to know the builder, who I is very reputable, so I called him directly -- he insisted they were good guys and that he has been working with them at several of his properties. I called my husband and he said it was good with him. So, despite not finding any reference to their company on internet, I called them back to do the work. I would normally never agree to give this much money to an unsolicited contractor to do dangerous work around my house within 45 min of meeting him. But we found good reasons to trust them, and it paid off! The guys who were in the yard were courteous, answered my questions and even set aside some birch logs so I could use them for decoration. Doug pointed out some large hostas in their way and asked before risking trampling them. He also assured me that there would be no damage to any of the other more important plants -- and there was not! At no time did I see/hear anyone do anything inappropriate -- language, behavior, or work wise. We have had A LOT of home improvement work done over the years and believe me, some of the behavior I've seen made me regret having the people I'd hired anywhere near my home and family. Not so with these guys -- they were nice, easy to work with, did a great job, and even cleaned up -- All for a bargain price! So, the moral of my story is, if Doug (248) 760-8190 or Chadwick (248) 929-1986 with Mr. Tree comes to your door asking to look at your trees -- you should really consider taking them up on their offer :-) To the all the guys at Mr. Tree, sincerely, I thank you! The WORST tree trimmers in the state. Just real deadbeats. They worked at my neighbor's house and did a lot of damage to my landscaping. I sued in small claims court and won. I offered for them to make a small donation to a charity instead of paying the judgment, and they never did. Just deadbeats. Find someone with integrity to do work for you. read more

I hired Mr Tree to cut down two oak trees and grind the stumps. They were supposed to cut the wood into logs 16" to 18". About half were under 18". The rest were over and some up to 24". I advised them that I had a small woodstove that could not accommodate larger logs. I was not home when the work was done. I trusted that it would be done right. I can live with the pieces that are over 18", but not the 4 logs that were not cut. One is 4 feet and should be cut into 3. I have texted, called & emailed Justin about this. They are cheap but extremely unreliable. If you pay them upfront without the work being completed good luck on getting it done. Phone call after phone call with no response. They tell you they will be out if you finally do get a return call and then never show. This is not the first time this has happened on previous jobs. Messy as well. Will no longer use them, but if you do don't pay the full amount until all the work is done. read more

I had Mr. Tree cut down a large maple in my front yard and remove a limb off of the huge maple tree in my backyard. The limb on the maple tree in the back yard was overhanging wires and the roof of the home. Doug from Mr. Tree explained the plan of action thoroughly. His team of climbers did an excellent job and cleaned everything afterward. I recommend Mr. Tree for tree removal or trimming. I will use them in the future for pruning my other trees as well. If i could give 0 star for this company, I would! They take the check for the whole service, do half of the job, promise to come back soon when the ground is soft enough to grind the roots and never come back! The woman in the office is almost never answering the phone and tne guys who started the job cannot give you any details (of course, very easy). Stay away from them! You were prompt and got most of the job done last fall. After providing lunch, you guys finished the tree, and Chad followed up, grinding the stump. He assured me it was 8 inches below grade, but after cleaning up the chips, I found the top to be about 4 inches above grade. I called back and was told it was around the end of the season, and I said I would call in the spring. I called and was told that Doug was in the area that week, and would contact me. He did call, and said he would stop by before the end of the week. So far , no Doug. I called three weeks ago, and left a message that customer service was non-existent, and apparently have no integrity. If I could give this company 0 stars, I would. I had a large rotting tree in my backyard and called them for a quote, they were the cheapest around and now I see why. Our arrangement was that they could leave the wood as long as it was in small enough pieces my fiancé could chop up for firewood. They left huge pieces we couldn't even move. Not only that but they knocked our power out and immediately took off. That fried our oven, garage door opener, and our furnace. I have now spent about $1,000 repairing all of that. And I still had to pay them to come back and take the large pieces they weren't supposed to leave in the first place. Would not recommend this company. read more

Mr Tree are a bunch of crooks! A half finished job, no where near the branches removed than was agreed. One whole tree cut down and most of it still laying in the front yard. Countless calls and messages...nothing! If you want to be ripped off, go ahead call these guys. Mr. Tree will always be the company I call for tree service. They did an awesome job! After calling them about a tree, they came out the next day to cut it down and left no mess at all. MR. TREE DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! Pros: They were quick to respond and fit me into their schedule. They completed the job with little to no mess. CONS: ~ They did NOT finish the job. We still have tree stump left over from the job that still needs to be ground up. ~ While the quote included trimming of all the hedges, it looks like they hardly touched them ~ They overcharged me by $100.00 ~ They won't return any of my my calls regarding the stump or reimbursement for overcharging me On a side note: His old partner Doug (see reviews above) left Mr. Tree because of the way Chadwick was conducting his business. read more

Terrible experience with. Hired to remove large oak. NO respect for existing plants and shrubs. Broke a mature viburnum in half. Killed other mature shrubs. Left the backyard a mess -- had to pick up big chunks of logs this spring. Promised to replace killed plants - nothing. On top of this, told me that another of my large trees needed to be cut down -- glad I got other opinions! Avoid. Worst tree experience ever. read more

Please do not let this company do any of your tree work. They came to my house and said they were in the neighborhood doing work for others near me. I had a two trees I wanted to get rid of so I thought this would be great timing. After countless phone calls and 0 phone calls back I still have two stumps in my yard. The last person I spoke to their said and I quote "You have my word and it is good as gold that we will get this taken care of for you this week". That was six weeks ago. It was by far the worst customer service I have ever seen. The last time I I spoke with them they said we will come out and take a look at it and ensure it is up to our standard of work. They never showed, never called and obviously do not care about their customers. Do not make the same mistake I did and trust them to do what they were paid to do. Mr. Tree did an awesome job. Had several trees that needed to be trimmed, called Mr.Tree and had Curtis out giving us a quote within the hr. The quote was about 1/3 the cost of previous quotes for the same work. The day of the work the crew showed up on time and did a great job, from the trimming to the clean up. Dont bother! Not a trustworthy company. Guy came out & gave us a written estimate, which was a good sized job / amount for them. Was suppose to call us to set up a date/ time...but tick tock...NEVER heard from this compnay again! Dont waste your time. Very poor customer service & unreliable workers. read more

Chad cut down 3 tree's for me on Febuary 14 th, which included grinding the stumps. BEWARE, he said he would be back on Febuary 18th., to grind the stumps, never seen him again. You probably guessed it, we paid him in full. Hold back 50% of the money till the job is complete. read more

Mr. Tree removed a large mature maple from my yard; the actual removal went fine. However, they promised to leave a few logs for firewood and also did not return to grind the stump despite that being part of the deal. I called Curtis and he said the crew must have forgot about the firewood so he promised to drop some off from another job. He also said the stump grinding would be in a few days. Unfortunately, weeks went by and no firewood, and no stump grinding. I called Curtis again but my call went to voicemail. I did not receive a return call. After a few more weeks, I placed repeated calls to Curtis's cellphone but never heard back. So I called Mr. Tree main office and spoke to the owner (Chad?). He promised to make it right. Weeks went by and no action. Subsequent repeated calls are going unanswered for several weeks; they are not returning my voicemails (neither Curtis nor Chad). It has been 3 months, no return calls, so I can only assume they have walked away from me so. After waiting 3 months for Mr. Tree to finish their job, I have subsequently hired another contractor to grind the stump. It is so unfortunate when contractors accept a job with such enthusiasm and promises, and then simply walk away from the homeowners without finishing the work. read more
