I brought my car in this morning to deal with a potential transmission issue. After reading numerous reviews from people raising concerns about up-charging, I contacted the shop around an hour later and clearly stated I only wanted the diagnostic and that no work should be done until I received a quote first. After several back and forth calls between multiple parties, It was made clear that I would not be using Mr. Tire's services and would instead work to arrange a tow through my insurance to take my car elsewhere to be service. Several hours later, I left campus to retrieve my car so i could move it to another lot to make towing easier. After arriving, I found that my car was no longer in the lot. When i spoke with the front desk, I was told that my car had already been towed. This was extremely concerning as I had not authorized any tow through Mr. Tire. Several calls later, I learned that my vehicle was wrongfully towed by Hampton's Body Shop, which introduced an entirely separate set of unprofessional conduct. If I had not stopped by Mr. Tire to retrieve my car I would have never known that my car was towed. According to the front desk employee, a tow truck driver entered the shop and asked if he could tow a "black Jeep Cherokee." My Cherokee is gray. Despite the discrepancy, the employee handed over my keys with no verification process, no confirmation of the tow request, no license plate check, no identification, and no permission from me. This shows an extreme and unacceptable liability issue. My vehicle was released without any consent from me, removed from the lot, and not given any information of where it was for two hours. The only apology I received came from an employee who had little to no involvement in the incident and described it as "carelessness." I will be escalating this incident further with Mr. Tire and Hampton's body shop and expect a formal response addressing how this happened, what actions are being taken regarding it, and what steps Mr. Tire will take to ensure this never happens again. read more

This is my third trip to Boone getting a nail in a rental car tire, but my first trip to Mr. Tire. It was Sunday afternoon. A friend who lives in Boone told me to make an appointment. I made the appointment for 2 p.m. but ended up being available to go around 12:30 p.m. I was welcomed by the wonderful man at the front desk - Christian - as soon as I walked in the door. There were two tire fixes ahead of me plus another person was waiting for a set of new tires to be installed. Christian explained they only had two techs on Sunday, but optimistically told me they would get to my tire fix as soon as possible. Every single person who came in the store was greeted with the same cheer and with the same facts so that everyone understood they were understaffed given the many customers, and there might be delays. We were all game. The techs worked so hard. One even had to stop and go to another Mr. Tire store to pick up a fourth tire for the set being installed, causing what could have been an even bigger delay, but they handled that super quickly too! The techs worked seamlessly with Christian and he with them. So, even though they were understaffed they got us all in and out quickly. My car was done in about hour and it only cost $27! The piece de resistance? I found out that Christian had only been working at Mr. Tire for about a week and a half. He handled every snag, hiccup, etc. with grace. Mr. Tire -- You are lucky to have Christian. He is a gem. He treated every customer with care and supported your technicians in every way he could. Best Boone Tire Fix Ever! read more

So I made another appointment in the hope my car would get serviced sooner than later( is that why you make appointments?) A 3rd party contacted me on Mr. Tire's behalf. I wrote back to them: "This smacks of a scam.  Mr. Tire knows exactly what happened...or didn't happen.  They have my $152.  They mounted my tires inside out.  In trying to fix that, they stripped my lugnut key.  They could not obtain a new one.  I left for Greenville  and had to buy a lugnut key at a Mercedes dealership and have the tires reversed at a local Oil and Tire garage.  That totalled approx. $160.  I'm over $300 to have 4 tires mounted. You're working on behalf of a business that simply doesn't want to refund me for the total screwup on their part." read more

I've been a steady customer for Mr.Tire with multiple cars through the years, but this most recent service was my worst appointment. I went in for a simple routine Oil Change, Fluid Check, Tire Rotation, Tire Pressure Check etc. A fairly standard appointment for me. Everything was good for the start and middle. Gave my key, waited patiently for an hour and half (Appointment was early too for the day), got back my key like normal and paid as normal. All standard routine. Once I got back in my car, that's when it went south. Turned on my car, oil indicator was still showing that I still needed a tune up. No updated sticker for when needed to go in for my next check up. Tire pressure indicator was still on. And to top it off, my door and door frame had oil hand marks on them. I was honestly very disappointed that was how my car came back to me. I went back in as calm as I could to understand what happened? Was everything actually properly done? How can I know when it came back in that state? Front desk representative claimed it was a new guy. He went back to get it sorted to see what happened. Took an extra few minutes to get it resolved. After the time passed for fixing the mess. The mechanic came back in with a blank stare on his face, gave me my keys, gave no apology or showed any remorse for what was done to my car. There was no confirmation to be sure all was good as far as what was done with my car. He essentially came back as if I had caused him an inconvenience for bare minimum service. The front desk representative apologized, which I appreciated, and gave my same receipt back. Went back to my car for the second time. Oil indicator was correct. Oil stain was close to gone, will still need to clean it. He slapped on a second sticker without removing the previous one. I removed it myself and put the new one over the original spot. And my tire pressure indicator was still showing that tire pressure was low. At this point, I didn't care to go back in as I had enough. As much as I want to be understanding, that was just horrible. If you are going to take your car somewhere to be serviced, it should be treated with decency and mine was not. I am unsure if I will go back again after that experience. All I know is I do not want that particular mechanic taking care of my car again. read more

I will never go back there again - this is after being a long-time customer. Went in for a DMV inspection, oil change and headlight fix - they told me I needed two new tires (I knew I did NOT need new tires). They said would not pass my inspection unless I purchased two new tires for $400-ish. I refused (this is not the first time something like this has happened here). They charged me for a failed inspection and guess what? When I checked my headlight later - it was not repaired and I still had a headlight out! I immediately went to another GREAT auto shop (SHOUT OUT TO LOCALS GARAGE!) where my inspection passed with flying colors. Also, after asking two other mechanics about my tires, they both agreed that the tires were in very good condition (they are) and that they were probably trying to get me to buy new ones so they could sell my current ones as "used". I went to the Subaru dealership in Town for a 6000 mile service. As they were trying to rotate the tires the lug nuts were on so tight it took them about 1/2 hour to remove them and had to strip the edges of the nuts until they were rounded. They charged me $227 and asked who put the tires on. It was Mr. Tire in Boone. I took the receipt to the latter and met with Kevin Asking if they could do anything. Got nothing but an argument and said he wanted to see the lug nuts in question. Went back to the dealership and was told they had already discarded them. Went back to Mr. Tire and Kevin told me to leave. I took a picture of him and he followed me out threatening me not to post it on the internet. I said I wouldn't. He tried to grab my shoulder and my phone and followed me out calling me a MF among other pleasantries. I will go to small claims court to settle this. Reading the comments of others with just one star tells me that this is not unusual for this location and I would urge others to think again if you want to do business with these people. After dinner a rock punctured our front driver side tire and deflated pretty quickly. I brought the wheel in the next day thinking it would need to be replaced. After looking at the tire they said 100% it can be plugged / patched. Within 45 minutes the work was done and I was off with a good as new tire. It was 30 bucks so I feel good value for the work. read more

Parents DO NOT let your kids go here. There are plenty of other trustworthy shops in the area (SRS Tire & Auto is one). My college-age daughter was quoted $330 for rear shocks and an alignment to fix some handling/noise issues. A few hours later the car was "finished" and they installed not only rear shocks, but also front struts, sway bar links and new tires to the tune of over $3000. Not cool. Brought my flat tire for repair at 330pm and while i was being added in the system for the repair, a mechanic told Christian (guy assisting me) that it will be a 90 minutes wait. So i said i will just come back for my tire. So i went back at 530pm after 120 minutes and my tire wasn't finished, they would have forgotten it if i didn't show up, the guy said he got pulled away when he started working at my tire. So i have to wait another 20 minutes so they could finish patching my flat tire. read more

There doesn't seem to be an updated review of this place, so here goes... Expect to wait at least 3 times longer than they initially tell you, they'll keep saying it's almost ready when it's not even close - you may be late for work like I was due to their continuous lies about how long things would take. Expect their job to be incomplete the first time and plan to return multiple times to have the job actually finished. Expect things in your car to be messed with that had nothing to do with the job - in other words, don't trust them with your valuables. Expect to be told your car needs things that it certainly doesn't, and expect for those things to cost outrageous prices. If you don't seem like you know much about cars, expect to be taken advantage of - especially if you're a college female. You learn a lot about the place just by sitting in the waiting room. The amount of people that call in to complain is just comical - you'll never hear the words "I'm sorry" and "we apologize" more in your life than from whoever is working the phone - nearly every call is a complaint. One thing I found quite interesting is that employees often work on their own personal cars during business hours, which blows my mind as I've had to sit there and wait for hours upon hours for a 20 min job to be completed. Expect to hear constant yelling and cursing from the garages as you sit in the waiting area. DO NOT GO to ANY Mr. Tire. They will overcharge you completely. I cannot believe the way they overcharge people for stuff. They said the Gas Struts for my car needed to be replaced and priced at $299. I found the SAME part online for $114. They price matched it actually, but wonder if i would've never looked it up??? Alongside they had a new employee with no knowledge in charge. As he put I needed BALL JOINTS on the description for $683 which amazes me. Apparently i needed to replace my whole arm??? Well, when I left the place the air in my tires was not only less but when I told the man that my light was still on he told me to "drive around a bit". We needed an emergency tire and TPMS replacement on our 2018 Chevrolet Volt while travelling in the United States. The Mr. Tire location on Blowing Rock Road in Boone NC could not get the replacement TPMS to work on our original visit May 1, 2023 or when we returned the next day. We were promised a refund for the TPMS part that was installed, but we haven't got it yet. They also failed to return our wheel locks. We had to spend over $300 at our local mechanic when we got home to fix the problems. UPDATE: After some time, we did receive a refund for the TPMS part installed by Mr. Tire. After leaving this review, we were contacted by Mr. Tire's parent corporation, Monro, who said that they were sending us a refund for the wheel locks that were not returned to us and the work that our mechanic had to do to remove them. They refused to pay for the work our mechanic had to do to get the TPMS system working again when we returned home. He told us that Mr. Tire had not programmed the replacement TPMS that they installed to the correct frequency for our vehicle. We're not happy with this company's response to this issue. read more

I was anxious because of course not being from here I didn't know what would be open and if I would have to wait and I was planning on leaving Sunday. Do NOT EVER take your car here for any major work!!!!!! My car was in their shop for OVER a year.... they fixed the WRONG issue & had to replace my WHOLE engine!! They do NOT know how to replace an engine and ruined it!!!! Had to have it repaired by a dealership and Mr. Tire returned my car in PIECES!!!! I will not even begin to explain what has happened to my car. I currently have an attorney AND the Dept. of Justice taking care of these issues. It has been an absolute nightmare!! I'm up visiting my granddaughter at the university and she tells me she has a leaking tire. We find Mr. Tire and they were fantastic. Turns out her tires have a special key to get them off and of course she has never seen it. So we try to find one, to no avail. Long story, short, they walked us through a perfect solution and we returned the next day and got the tire fixed. They were all so kind and helpful. I can return home with one less worry! I lived in Boone for three years, and I had my 2015 Nissan Rogue serviced here every time I needed something such as a tire rotation or change. I purchased snow tires from this location which were helpful every Winter season. This place was recommended to me by my graduate school mentor the week I moved to Boone in 2016, and I used it ever since. They have always been easy to contact, schedule with, and work with, and are relatively cheap for the services they provide. Yelp users also get a coupon on services (or at least they used to anyway). One time, an employee convinced me to order the Fried Green Tomato burger next door at Comeback Shack after I told him I was going there to wait on my car, and it actually changed my life for the better. 10/10 recommend this Mr. Tire in Boone. read more

This is a big time ripoff place that should not be allowed to stay in business any longer. We took our Infinity QX60 in for brake service 8/4/23 with odometer mileage at 91,965. We were charged $540 for replacing 2 rear brake rotar drums and brake pads. This past week with our odometer mile showing 95,597 (only 3,632 more miles after our brake service, we were told by three (3) South Florida auto service companies including Infinity Coconut Creek, Prestigious Euro Cars and Tire Choice, an affiliate company of Mr. Tire, that our rear drums and pads had never been replaced, because they could all see the old worn out parts were still in our car. We stay in Beech Mountain all summer, which has elevated roads over 5,000 SF with steep drop-offs so could have easily been killed there and also driving back to South Florida relying on brakes that had never been replaced as represented fraudulently by Mr. Tire Boone. That said, we will of course never go back there, and we advise anyone else reading this review to do the same. read more

While visiting Boone I had a tire that became low. Mr. Tire was close to the hotel and dropped in to see if they could take a look. Needed the car back in a few hours to leave to make an appointment. Even being busy the guy promised I'd have it back in time. In about 2 hours they had worked me in. Took the tire off, checked for any leaks, even a water test. Evidently it was just a little low, prob due to cooler weather. No charge for their time and effort. Thats customer service. read more

Only took about two hours with no appointment ( good considering the staff shortage). I've also had issues with my alignment for years, and finally it's been 100% fixed. do. not. go. here. blew a tire and had it towed here, they were able to get a brand new tire on within like an hour, which was great. a WEEK later, i blew the same tire. took it back there and specifically asked them to check the rim and make sure nothing was leaking. they assured me it wasnt and that i was just hitting something while driving. i had to purchase another new tire, which btw they absolutely overcharge for. i came to my senses and went and got a second opinion, and what do you know.....my air valve has been leaking, even after i was assured it was "checked." not only that on the mr. tire receipt it states that they put a new one in. now i did go back to mr. tire and let them know what has occurred, and they issued me a refund but it will SIX weeks before i get it. so in summary, go somewhere else and where the people know what they are doing. mr. tire is only here to prey on innocent college students who dont know better. read more

Yesterday I had to get my tire repaired at another tire place in town. This morning I woke up to a nearly deflated tire. Fortunately I was able to inflate it and drive to Mr Tire. They weren't sure if I would need a new tire or if it could be fixed. They were busy so I went home to wait. Josh called to tell me the news. He said it was good and bad. Good news: they could plug the tire again (Apparently it was a different spot that the other place didn't find, but Mr. Tire did!) Bad news: it would be another 30 minutes. That is the best bad news I could hear. They saved me from buying a new tire and did the job quickly. Within 30 minutes, Josh called to tell me the car was ready. Overall great service and great work. Would definitely recommend and will be using them in the future. As we are new to the community, we have found our repair shop. read more

I got a flat tire and brought it to mr tire, they said it would take them about 3 hours for them to patch it. They called me late in the day and said it was done so I decided I would pick it up the next day. When I arrived my tire was still flat and they had not even moved it from the spot I had parked it in, so they definitely didn't touch it from the day before when I dropped it off. They said it would be fixed by the next day, and when I drove off the lot the following they had not evened out the pressure in my tires and another one was flat. They didn't make me pay, I imagine because they knew I was driving off with my car not fixed. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Phil was amazing and got me setup and well warned that it would take quite a while for new tires, brakes, and oil change all at my request. He even called a bit later to say the brakes could go a little longer if I wanted. I planned my day with short walks around the shop to get lunch, my nails done and some light shopping. Phil called me mid mani pedi and said I could pick up any time before the shop closed. I walked back in paid and was done. Such a good day. They fixed quickly and put it back on and charged me nothing and said Merry Christmas. Enjoy your stay. Will use them anytime I'm in the area. Wow -- what an amazing experience. My daughter, an ASU student, hit a pothole and blew out a tire. I happened to be in town and removed the tire and took it to Mr. Tire, where Stacey sympathetically helped me with my case. Quoted me a good deal on a replacement tire, but when we removed it from the trunk of my car, we noticed an extreme v-shaped dent in the wheel -- this was about to get really expensive. Or so I thought. Stacey suggested that her crew might be able to hammer out the dent and save the wheel - and lo and behold, they did! Most shops would have tossed the wheel and racked up the extra charges. Stacey and the team at Mr. Tire demonstrated what a true customer-first attitude looks like. read more
