I can't express enough how grateful I am for Phil's help during a stressful situation. I drove from Virginia to North Carolina, and when I arrived, I immediately noticed a strange noise coming from my car. I was feeling overwhelmed After receiving an estimate from another shop that didn't properly check my car, my car was was now facing the possibility of a $1,600 repair without even knowing what was really wrong. I turned to Yelp for help. Within 15 minutes of submitting a request, Phil called me. He carefully listened to my concerns, reviewed the videos I sent, and offered honest advice. He explained the worst-case scenarios but also talked about potential minor issues that could be causing the noise. Phil's honesty and transparency immediately put me at ease. He told me to bring the car in first thing the next morning. When I arrived, Phil made me feel right at home. He took a thorough look at my car ("Betty," as I call her), and without hesitation, called his buddy to deliver the timing chain guide. While working on my car, Phil explained what went wrong and showed me the worn-out parts. He even took us on a test drive to make sure the engine was okay and topped off my oil. We were at Phil's shop from 8:30 AM to about 12:30 PM, and during that time, Phil made sure we felt comfortable. He shared the beauty of his property with us, from his cows to the peaceful creek in his backyard, and entertained us with great stories. His kindness and hospitality made all the difference. I can't say enough nice things about Phil's. My son is a student at App State and drives my hand-me-down 2006 Nissan Altima with about 120k miles. He's taken the car to Phil's multiple times for minor repairs (flat tire, tail light bulb, etc.) and they were always able to make the repair in a timely manner and at a fair price. Most recently they helped diagnose an oil leak. We highly recommend Phil's Service Center. While visiting Boone late on a Saturday afternoon, our vehicle broke down. Not knowing where to get help, our tow truck driver took us to Phil's. He quickly diagnosed our problem and began working on our car. He worked until 8:30 that evening to get us back on the road. Phil obviously knows what he is doing, and we knew that if our car could be fixed that day he could get it done. He made what could have been a stressful situation really not so bad. My son's truck had issues the first week he was at App State in August. Phil offered to come and pick up his truck if it would not start for $25...that's a deal! My son did get it to them and Phil called and said the alternator was bad and explained fully what needed to be done. If the site would allow a minus number I would say minus 10!!! I called Phil and spoke him (not an associate) about a leak under my vehicle. He said to bring it in, in the morning and he would take a look at it. I arrived at his shop at 7:45am. At 8:00am I knocked on the door to his shop (the one inside the store) and received no answer. At 8:10am I went out front to the garage doors and looked in to see if I could see anyone. I saw Phil bent over in his chair with his head in his hands. I knocked again and instead of him coming to the door, he leaned back in the chair so I couldn't see him. I knocked on three more occasions and even tried to call him on the phone three times. No answer to any attempts. At 8:45am I gave up and sought help elsewhere. BEWARE OF THIS GUY! BAD BUSINESS! read more

My daughter is a student at ASU and she called me one day saying her powder window would not close. I called 2 different places and Phil's could check her car right away. It was the motor and regulator, he had it in stock and he had it fixed in no time while she studied at the library. We had the same problem with 2 different cars in Raleigh and were charged twice as much and it took a whole day to get the part and repair. So happy I now know where to take my daughters car for any issues and will even consider having them work on our cars too, seems worth the drive up there! read more

We were lucky to find Phils on a Saturday night when our truck broke down. We were from out of town and needed to get home. Phil and Bob stayed late and worked for hours trying to fix what damage had been done by fueling up with bad gas (from another station). They did it! So thankful for such honest people. Unfortunately I was not that pleased or impressed. I found this auto center to be extremely slow in the repair of my vehicle. Kept my car way longer than necessary because the repairs were so minor! Plus, I had to take the car back twice because it still wasn't running properly and then it took forever to get my vehicle back each time! It is quite unfortunate that I have to leave a negative review on a business. However, the way I was treated within this business is next to pathetic. I took my Subaru to this repair shop to be worked on earlier this week. The service center staff was polite, and repairs were made after a few days. Little did I know, it was only because I was willing to spend extensive amounts of money having them fix my vehicle (approx. $60 an hour labor). Next in line was my Nissan, which bear in mind had a gas leak, so nothing major. I took the vehicle to the repair shop as I had done with the other vehicle. It took the shop a day to contact me and tell me what I already knew, it had a leak and a part needed to be replaced. I was then given an estimate, although reasonable, was not something I felt necessary to fix right away. This is because I had already paid around $350 for repairs earlier in the week and the leak could wait to be fixed. I called to let the shop know I would be picking the vehicle up Friday morning and I was told I was being charged for an estimate. Keep in mind, I was going to have them repair the vehicle for me at a later date, but they insisted on charging me for half an hour of labor to diagnose a problem that could have been done in less time than I was charged for. At this point I went to the service center and spoke to the staff. Kevin, in particular, was who I chose to speak to. Kevin was friendly and attempted to explain this was a policy and a standard procedure for the shop. To be fair I would agree that diagnosing problems require time and charges should be given if the owner decides to take the vehicle elsewhere. However, all customers should be given prior notice that they WILL be charged for simple diagnostics unless their vehicle is immediately repaired. I did not attempt to waste the shop's time in diagnosing my problem and that is why it is so unfortunate to be charged over $30. It is an utter shame that the business would throw shady charges on you after your trust was placed in them with a second vehicle. I sacrificed an hour drive to bring them my vehicle since I felt they were reliable. At this point I would not recommend anyone take their vehicle here unless you prefer to be treated like a pile of change, and not a customer. I can personally say I will not be returning to the shop unless the owner or upper management decides to contact me to make amends. read more
