My tonkotsu ramen on my last visit was tasty and filling -- simply PERFECT for autumn. (The unagi here is another personal fave, and the smelt roe is always fresh and flavorful. Hubs likes the spicy miso ramen -- A LOT.) I really wish this place offered natto and fried mackerel skin rolls on its menu, though. I'm just sayin'. (I'm not a big fan of "white people" choices on Japanese restaurant menus, but understand that most dumb-assed Okies would likely turn up their noses at/shun outright both natto and fried mackerel skin alike. Le sigh.) I consistently find good food choices at reasonable prices here. To make things even better, the restaurateur himself is friendly, engaging, and eager to answer questions. Ordered the spicy miso ramen for lunch today and it was made just right. I needed something warm because it was so cold and gloomy out. Didn't think much of ordering ramen at a sushi restaurant but it turned out to be something so good that I plan on coming back here for more. The pork pieces were thick and way more than expected so that's good. The broth was delicious. The noodles were undercooked which put it all together. I loved the service. I didn't have a bad meal at Mr. Sushi, but I also didn't have a great one. A-OK is a good descriptor for my dinner at Mr. Sushi. I arrived around 6:45 on a Thursday evening. As other Yelpers note, the joint is small. Maybe 8 seats around the bar, 3 booths, and a couple of tables. I sat in one of the booths. The restaurant (and restroom) was very clean. I was immediately approached by a server who took my drink order and provided me with a menu. I decided to go with the pan fried gyoza, a treasure roll, and a spiderman roll. While I waited, I watched the TV that was directly to the left of my table. The gyoza took about 4 minutes to arrive, and it needed to take longer. It was only pan-fried on the bottom of the dumplings, the remainder had no color whatsoever. And, a couple of the pieces were actually cold on the top, demonstrating how short the time in the pan was. The filling tasted fine, it was typical pork gyoza filling. But, the lack of color throughout made these a disappointment. The rolls arrived shortly thereafter. So, props to Mr. Sushi for getting food out quickly. The treasure roll is spicy yellowtail with asparagus, scallions, and topped with more yellowtail and salmon. The fish was fresh and of good quality. The roll wasn't the tightest, it was already coming apart before I even grabbed one. But, the flavor was good. I would NOT call this roll spicy as the menu indicates. It may have a little heat, but definitely not spicy. The spiderman roll contains spicy tuna (spicier than the yellowtail) with fried soft shell crab, cucumbers, lettuce, and spicy mayo. The lettuce got in the way more than anything, it added nothing to the roll. The mayo was good, as was the fried crab. This roll had a better contrast in texture than the treasure. I preferred this roll to the treasure, but not by much. Both were basically average rolls. I'd return to Mr. Sushi, but I would probably try other menu items. read more

This place is definitely a good sushi place to go to if you're craving it! It's fresh, and super tasty if you're more on the fried side of it. The miso soup is just right, not too salty but perfect. I got the caterpillar roll and it was plated very nice :) and the hostess of this place was super accommodating and checked up on us and quite often to where we didn't need to be searching for her all the time lol. The food is incredibly good, the restaurant is always clean and I've never waited more than 10-15 minutes for my food. In my last review of this place I was fairly satisfied by their sushi, and I still consider this place one of my favorite sushi bars in Norman. The place itself is a little small, and the service was so-so. I've had their steamed gyoza, which was like any other steamed dumplings I've had, and the Captain Crunch and Big O rolls. My favorite remains to be the Captain Crunch roll! However, I don't see myself getting sushi here anymore because I am hooked on their ramen! I love the Tonkotsu ramen, which comes with bamboo shoots, seaweed, egg, and pork slices. The flavoring is so wonderful I haven't cared enough to venture to try their two other ramen flavors. I figured I'd try this place out as I love sushi and I live in Norman and am always looking for some good food there. I liked the clean, Japanese design. It is kinda a mixture of Japanese sushi bar and sports bar b/c there are lots of big tvs. Sports fans will be pleased... The sushi and everything I ate was pretty good. Let me start by saying, I've been going to this location for sushi for a long time and it used to be really good. And I will say, they still have the best spicy tuna roll I've ever had. However, I've been going less and less because over the past 9 months, the size of the sushi has been getting smaller and smaller, but they still charge the same price or more than other sushi places. On Thursday, 5/3/18, I went there for the last time. I ordered three rolls. The spicy tuna roll was still very good, but the salmon roll and avocado roll were pitifully anemic. I wish I could have taken a photo, but I didn't have my phone with me. There was only a tiny sliver of salmon and avocado in them with a tiny amount of rice. I nicely brought this to the manager's attention because the place has been dead the last few times I went, so I thought that might be the reason. When I showed him the sad little piece of salmon roll, I fully expected he would have the rolls re-made to the appropriate size. But, he actually argued with me!! He said they've always been that size. Actually, Mr. Manager, no, they haven't because I've been a long-time customer there since before you were employed there! Then, he tried to convince me that if they put any more in the roll, the seaweed wouldn't close? Really dude??? I assured him that if he went to most other sushi places, he would see the proper amount that should be in a roll and I pointed out he was charging the same price for his skimpy rolls. He asked me where else I eat sushi and I told him some good places in the area, but especially Volcano Sushi in Moore, OK. He just smiled and dismissed me like the silly little girl he thought me to be. And, of course, after doing NOTHING to address my complaint, he charged me full price!!! Well, Mr. Manager Dude, today I went to Volcano Sushi ---- HERE is what sushi rolls should look like!! You shouldn't need a microscope to find the fish inside!! I won't be going back after the way I was treated.....and also because I don't like being cheated and being treated like I'm stupid, so Mr. Manager Dude can increase his profit! I've been here twice now and both times were just okay. I feel like a lot of their rolls get doused in too much sauce and that some of the flavors just get lost in there. The prices are a little better than some of the other places in town, but there are at least two sushi bars I'd choose before this one. The location could be better and it's pretty small, but it's not that bad. If I go back I'm going to try something a little more on the basic side. The sushi was ok. I wasn't impressed. I got the small salmon roll and the tempura salmon roll. They were both decent, but I didn't love it. The prices were good. I got both rolls for $12. Recently, we were craving sushi and wanted to stay on the west side of Norman when we stumbled across this place. We ordered takeout and it was ready in no time. The sushi was delicious and fresh, so we decided to return. The next time, we dined in and were blown away by the outstanding customer service. Everybody was very nice and welcoming as soon as we stepped inside. We were seated right away and our waitress was friendly and professional. We ordered ramen, and though it tasted good, I still cannot say that we have found authentic ramen in central OK. Our salmon nigiri and salmon lovers roll were divine! So fresh and tasty I could have had seconds. Their edamame is also a delicious way to start the meal.
