Mr Sewing Machine IS the place to go for great advice and service for your sewing machine and/or serger! I recently bought my first serger and after changing the thread started having issues with it. I've been sewing with a machine for about 20 years but sergers were a whole new world for me. After hours of trying to fix it my self I relented to taking it to Mr. Sewing Machine. Jerry saw me hauling me 14lb serger in and ask if I had a "sick one". I chuckled and replied that, yes, I was definitely having some problems. He immediately sat down and started fiddling with it and noticed that my crappy thread was snagging on the spool, and that I didn't have one of the upper looper threads threaded correctly. (Oops!) He corrected the issues and like magic, it's serging like a champ! I asked how much I owed him and he didn't charge me a dime. He even carried it to the car for me! I was definitely impressed by their service and integrity! If only I could find a car repair place with this kind of service! These guys know their stuff and will take care of you. :) read more

The belt on the 1960's Singer 293B that I inherited from my grandmother was old and loose, so I ordered a replacement off the Internet from a reputable dealer. The new belt arrived and was also too loose. I took the sewing machine to Antonio at Mr. Sewing Machine, who looked up the model number of my model and fetched the appropriate belt, only to find that that too was too loose. He then obtained the next smaller size belt, which fit perfectly and had room to be tightened as it loosened over time. Buying the wrong part off the Internet cost me $10 and I had to install it myself (incorrectly, as it turns out). Like others have said this awesome sewing repair shop is immediately inside of the building which says Singer and has a green awning that says fabric outlet. My machine was not broken. Just user error. He did fix my bobbin tension. I will be coming back if my machine breaks again! They also sell machines. read more

I used to come here because of an old job I had and I guess they changed ownership after moving from Golden D'or. The man that used to help me, Antonio, was so great. The new people are nice but OVERCHARGE. I got a "diagnostic" on my machine and paid $20 for two stitches. I was led to believe it was more in depth than that. I was WAY overcharged for a light bulb and all sales are final. I was also quoted a price for repair and that price increased before I left the store. I want to make something clear. There is a bad review on this site for Golden D'Or. Mr Sewing Machine and Golden D'Or are not affiliated. They just share the same building. That's the only thing they have in common. This is the only place I would ever consider taking my sewing machines for repairs. I have two sewing machines, and no matter how careful I am, I still manage to run into problems now and then. They always get my sewing machines back to "like new" condition which is a miracle considering how hard I am on the machines. In addition to repairing my machines, I make a point of bringing both of them for annual check ups. All of the people in the shop are super nice. They've given me several sewing tips that have helped me immensely. read more

Mr. Jerry and his staff couldn't be any nicer! Such friendly and knowledgable people here. They will not try to overcharge you and really know what they are talking about. The first time I took my grandmothers Singer machine in I thought the bobbin wasn't winding correctly. Turns out I just didn't know how to use the machine properly and they plugged it in and taught me how it was done (free of charge). This past time I took the machine in was due to the pressed foot lifter not working. They did a full service repair and inspection - Cleaned, oiled and repaired the machine for $120. When I came to pick up my sewing machine they showed me the "sample" that they used to sew all of the different stitches - to show that it was working correctly. I just thought that was a nice added touch to show that they truly inspected everything. I will 100% go back to Mr. Sewing Machine for future repairs. Thank you!! read more

I went to Golden D'or Fabric Store, planning to do some serious fabric shopping while visiting in the southern part of Dallas. When I entered the building, I realized I had to walk through the sewing machine/serger repair area. I was given a used serger a week earlier and asked Antonio if it was possible to buy a "standard" plate for it, since I was told that the rolled hem plate was on it, and the repair place I had taken it to in Louisiana didn't have one. When Antonio looked at the machine, he removed the plate and said "this plate is broken!" He got one that looked exactly the same to me, put it on the machine, grabbed a piece of fabric and began serging. He never stopped talking (aka teaching)! He explained every step what he was doing, adjusting and showing why the tensions weren't right and what I should look for. He noticed that "something" was off with the thread and pointed out that there were no holders (which the FIRST repair place said I didn't need!!!!" As soon as he put the spools on holders the jumping stopped and the serging became smooth. (He even took the time to be sure I SAW where the plate was broken because I didn't. It was on the back--only a trained eye would have seen it!) I'd only used a serger a couple of times and after telling me why I needed to decide between three or four spools and what would happen in each scenario, he got a needle, showed me how to insert it properly, how to thread everything properly and then insisted that I take a picture of it all--tension settings and threading -- so I'd have it for future reference. I WISH I LIVED HERE! When he showed me how much easier it was to thread using tweezers I bought a pair and even bought an Allen wrench for my needles. I don't have access to a repair shop where I live and I don't want to have to call Antonio and ask him to send me tools later! The charge? Only for the needles and tools and the correct plate. BEST machine repair experience EVER!!! I am hoping he he has a sewing machine I can purchase before I leave town. read more

I've only had to visit this small store twice in the last several years, but both times I was very pleased with their work. The first time I had to leave my machine, but the work was done in a couple of days at a minimal cost. I was very happy with it. Right before Christmas this year, the pedal on my Brother machine started having intermittent problems. As soon as I found a window to take it to Mr. Sewing Machine, I did. Again, I was so pleased. After a 10 second description of the problem, the tech opened the pedal, showed me the problem, offered me a new ($39) or used ($20) pedal which he had in the shop - showed me that it worked and I was on my way. I didn't even have to leave my machine. (And the "used" pedal looks brand new to me!) It may not be a location I have to visit often, but Mr. Sewing Machine will forever be the place I will go when my sewing machine needs fixed! read more

Called to see if they service Elna machines.. they do. The diagnostic was $20, which was done on the spot.. they found a minor problem and fixed it! I have had this machine for 35 years.. it is running great. So for $20 and about 10 to 15 minutes I was out of there with problem solved. I certainly will return if I need a repair. Very seldom do I encounter a business owner or employee that will talk me out of buying something. A year ago, I bought a used serger and sewing machine from here. Has worked great. But I put some stretchy thread in my serger and I couldn't get it to sew properly. I was ready to drop money on a new machine. They checked mine out. At NO cost because I purchased it from them.. Even though it was over a year ago. Even though it was used when I purchased it. They walked me through the problem and showed me what I was doing wrong. Yea, I bought a few things while I was there. You bet I did. Was the least I could do for such great service and consideration. They have a large selection of thread and colors. They will give the straight info. He could have sold me on a serger. He not only talked me out of it but he talked me out of purchasing one from anywhere. Mine is about as good as you can get without spending thousands. Thanks guys.
