I had not done any sewing for a number of years and decided I had a lot of mending and altering to do. Unfortunately since the machine (a Bernina) had not been used in a long time, it wouldn't zigzag. I took it to Richland Sewing Center where I have taken my machines for 50 years. Repairman said it needed to be cleaned and lubricated, which was not surprising. I thought the cost high, but went ahead with it. When I got it home I didn't get to use it as I had a major surgery. When I did finally get ready to sew and went to put the spools on, the back spool assembly fell off. It wasn't broken when I took it in. They wanted to charge me $75 to fix what they apparently broke, as it was ok when I took it in. I told them no, took it home and taped it on. Finally got around to doing the mending and altering. I started to hem a dress, and although the zigzag does work, that is the ONLY thing that works. No matter what I set it on, it will only do plain zigzag. I needed the blind stitch hemmer. Now they are going to charge me another $75 (if not more) because it hadn't been used since October and, gee, the lubrication has probably mucked up again. Over its lifetime, this machine has set without being used and never had this problem. The manager told me they use a special lubricant and it gums up pretty fast. Really? I authorized a fixed amount to have my serger cleaned and repaired. Two weeks later (March 27, 2023) I received a phone call advising me of the amount due which was $50 more than what I had authorized. No one called me to have me authorize the additional $50. I would have said "No." April 1, I talked to the service technician and I expressed my frustration. I asked if he could remove all the new parts and allow me to pick up my serger for no cost, given that I did not authorize the additional costs and that the machine would not work. He agreed. I advised the technician that I will come by on Saturday to pick up my non-working machine. April 1, I purchased the same serger (same brand, same model) on Amazon, brand new, for $2 less than the cost of the quoted repair. April 5, B.J. advised me that Richland Sewing Center would not authorize what was agreed to. I was told that they would honor the estimate. I was advised that the technician did not have the authority to tell me that I could pick up the machine with the removed parts for no cost. I was told that I can pay $80 which was their cost of labor to put on the parts that I did not authorize. I declined this offer. read more

I really enjoyed this store. I went in nervous about purchasing the "right" machine for me. The saleswoman that initially came up to me was very kind and showed me the machine that I eventually bought. I was uncertain, so she showed me a used model for much less $. I was still unsure. She let my husband and I roam the store discussing what to do. After 5 minutes or so, Doug came up to us. I found him extremely kind and patient. He walked me through every question I had, he must have spent 30-40 minutes explaining everything I asked, and then some! I bought the first machine and couldn't be happier! Just bought a new brother embroidery machine today. The customer service was great the store service was great.

Love BJ and one other "older" gentleman who is always helpful. If it wasn't for them, I would not go back. I have seen other reviews on the "teacher" and have hesitated to write a review but seeing what others have said, I do not believe it was me. I am a teacher myself and I would NEVER respond to a student, "I just told you that." which is what she said when I asked a question. I was so embarrassed. My response was, "If I knew the answer, I would not have asked the quesion." . I'll stick with Youtube unless the two gentlemen are teaching. read more

I love this store and the staff! I recently purchased a new Brother embroidery machine and am so impressed with all the help that is available to me as a new machine owner. I was probably in the store four or five times before I actually made my purchase, and both Doug and Cindy never got tired of answering my questions. After you purchase a machine, they not only offer free one on one classes, but also discount rates on other machine classes that are offered. And you can go in with a question any time, they are always happy to help. Lots of other great classes offered, I especially like that most classes are offered as both an evening class and a daytime class, so you have options to fit your schedule. Great store! Have all my machines serviced here. They have the most variety of classes in the area and many basic classes on quilting and embroidery. My classes this year have been excellent. Many are taught by club members and the owner who is very knowledgable and a great teacher. I learn something new at every class whether it is techniques, thread usage, methods, interfacing, etc. Quilt club is great for tips and getting to know others . All the employees are friendly and helpful. read more

I have been looking to purchase an embroidery machine and decided to stop in at this shop. There was one lady that came half way up to us and asked us if we needed anything. . .I told her I am interested in a machine. She told me to "hang on" she'd send another person up. We waited a few minutes and finally someone came. I explained what I was looking for and the use I would be purchasing the machine for. The sales lady showed me one main machine that was on sale. I asked her questions about it but she keep looking towards the back of the store. She finally showed me one embroidery sample and then excused herself stating that they were short handed and she had customers to wait on (there were a couple of ladies waiting to pick up something they had ordered). What I'd like the owners to know is that I had money in hand to purchase a machine but because they were "short handed" and acted like I was more of a bother than a purchasing customer, I went to another business and they were more than happy to help me with a machine. Wonderful customer service. The ladies there are very nice - they were really helpful in pointing out the best sewing machine for me. It also came with a free 1-yr tune up, free class, and 1-yr in store warranty. Their fabric selection isn't the widest however they do carry charm packs for quilting and have every accessory you'd need for nearly any name brand sewing machine (They had bobbins for my hard-to-shop-for vintage Singer!). They do carry used items to save you some $$ and offer sewing/quilting classes. read more

Beyond my expectations. I like shopping for a sewing machine where they sell most popular brands. I figure they have nothing to gain by selling you features on a specific brand because they know all features of more than half a dozen brands. I have taken dozens of classes there which I feel are reasonably priced from knowledgeable instructors. I like that the owners go to a lot of trouble to keep up with the latest machines as well as fabric lines. They even have times set aside to promote friendships and demonstrate new notions and sewing tricks and tips. It may be surprising to learn that there is also a quilt shop inside. I go there to see sewn samples galore which inspire me. read more

I don't know where the bad reviews have come from. I've been buying machines and other products since the late 80s when they they were on grapevine highway.. Doug and Jeanie always take good care of me and never try to over sell me. In fact sometimes there was a lower cost option I didn't think about and they pointed it out. They seem like they always work at making them the sale that is best the buyer then the service after a the sale is excellent. They are generous with help and advice. Almost two years ago I decided I 'needed' an embroidery machine. I had very little sewing experience. I did research online but, I could not bring myself to make a decision without looking at the machines in person. My husband went with me, and we walked out with my Viking Ruby Royale! I had no intention of purchasing that day but, after BJ answered all my questions and allowed me to compare many machines I was sold. Not only on the machine but Richland Sewing Center as my 'home' sewing center. Everyone is so helpful and friendly! I have taken many classes and have learned tons! The male employee who assisted me was very accommodating - he sold me the machine and helped me figure out which accessories I really needed and which I didn't. I am VERY novice in my sewing abilities and made the mistake to go to Joann's looking for advice on buying my first sewing machine. After a terrible experience there, I found my way to this wonderful sewing shop. The customer service was amazing. Their salespeople are so, so helpful and I was able to buy a traded-in sewing machine that I would never have had the ability to buy otherwise. The machine came with a 1 yr warranty and a free lesson, which they were able to schedule only two days after I bought my machine. I really could not be happier with my experience.
