It was my first time visiting Mr Ricks Bar and it was a pretty cool place to chill and sip on your favorite cocktail while Enjoying the outdoor beach views. We didn't order any food just drinks. The Micheladas were pretty good!

Bloody tasty and properly loaded

Great dog friendly patio across from the water. Order at the counter. We just had drinks and found a great table to enjoy. Bloody and Margarita both really well made. This is how a bloody should be served!

Great patio on the water to hang out and have cocktails and bar food. Self service, ordered at the bar. We split an OHC burger with sweet potato fries for a light lunch. Recommend.

While visiting Cali we went to Avila beach decided to grab a drink after walking the beach and hopped into Mr. Ricks. Dope vibe and live brand on Sundays!! We had a pina colada and a blackberry margarita!! Pina colada came with a fun flamingo straw!!! If you're in the area drop in enjoy the atmosphere!!

Great location with beautiful view, counter service keeps prices, reasonable. Lots of indoor seating with pool table in back. Friendly staff and relaxed ambience. Food was good, the Ahi sandwich was incredible!

Food: 4. Came by after picking up a friend from SLO airport. Weather was nice so he wanted a place where we could sit outside. Most places to eat in Avila have outdoor seating. We went here because we have been here before. All ordering is done at the bar counter but food is brought to your table. I ordered their carne asada fries. Portion was large but the price was high (over $20). Food was brought to our table at the right temperature and looked appealing. My carne asada fries were good especially since they met my request for crispy / well done fries. Fries were a big portion and good for 2 or more people.

Mr Ricks is ALL about location, location, location! Located steps away from the beach, and the Avila Beach Pier, this is the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoor breeze, enjoy some good music, watch the locals surf and enjoy a drink (or food) with a loved one! They are also dog friendly which is always an added bonus! They have a full bar, beer on tap and food options - their clam chowder is one of my ALL TIME favorites and it is even better if you add bacon on top! :) My husband also loves the bloody mary! The service can be hit or miss, based on who is working and how busy it is (especially if it is a weekend), but most times I have visited the bartenders and servers are super nice and helpful! Mr Ricks has live music on weekends and evenings and it is always a busy, and extremely fun, spot to be at! If you are looking for a chill spot to enjoy the the coastal scenery, you have come to the right place!

The bartender named Ryan was kind and helpful. Although, the beer we got was bad and he agreed. He let us choose another. The fishbowl came with sparkles in it! Ocean view location. Inside the thermostat said 83 degrees. It was very hot outside, I wish there could have been cool AC.

The view!

Grabbing a quick snack and some drinks while doing some people watching. We ordered the taco appetizer which feed both of us easily. The service was great and food was very tasty. You can't beat the view and they have good music playing in the background.

My favorite bar on Avila beach! I love the pink mermaid drink and it's the perfect bar to watch the sun set over the ocean. They have a good menu and the bartenders never disappoint! If you're visiting Avila and looking for a good drink, this is the place!

A great bar and grill with seaside seating. Great dishes, superb drinks and a li Ely atmosphere! Service staff is top notch and prices are fair. A definite return for us!

Such a fun place but the Sunday live bands suck and kill the vibe. They DJ'd for intermission and the atmosphere enhanced tremendously!!!

To sit here is to be seduced by the Pacific's rhythmic pulse, a panoramic distraction that almost--almost--masks the architectural and emotional exhaustion of the room. The décor suggests a space in transition, or perhaps an identity crisis. It bears the unmistakable look of a "palimpsest"--a new design hastily layered over the ghost of a previous one, creating an aesthetic friction that feels more like a temporary stage set than a permanent sanctuary. This weariness extends to the staff, who navigate the floor with a palpable, heavy-lidded misery, as if the sheer beauty of the coastline has become a burden they are no longer interested in carrying. The kitchen, however, still possesses moments of genuine, startling clarity. I opted for the "Trio," a format that usually promises variety but often delivers compromise. Not so here. The sandwich was a minor triumph of construction and flavor, a high-water mark for a casual lunch. It was flanked by a clam chowder of remarkable depth--creamy without being cloying, and singing with the brine of the sea. Yet, the meal is not without its turbulence. The accompanying salad arrived drowning, a casualty of an over-zealous hand with the dressing that rendered the greens more of a soup than a side. And then there is the matter of the French Onion soup. To encounter a $9 upcharge for a bowl of onions and melted Gruyère is to experience a moment of pure, capitalistic vertigo. It is a price point that suggests a level of luxury the service and the "layered" décor simply haven't earned. As for the amenities, the state of the restrooms remains a mystery--a rare blind spot in an otherwise exhaustive afternoon. Blue Moon Over Avila remains a destination for the eyes, and intermittently, for the palate. If you can ignore the visible gloom of the service and the audacity of the surcharges, the view alone is worth the price of admission. Just perhaps stick to the chowder and leave the French Onion to the high rollers.

While the couple that came in after us was a walk in, got the best view upfront in the patio. So I would not recommend making reservations just walk in and wait if you want a certain spot. We ordered our first round of drinks and Brie for an App, which arrived promptly but delivered by other staff. Didn't see a waiter for the next 20-30 minutes. No second round of drinks, no food order. Stood up and walked to the front where our waiter met me as he walked out from inside. We asked if they forgot about us and got a nonchalant response that they were busy. At which point I just asked for the check and said we would just go somewhere else. He handed me his payment tablet and looked away. 40$ for two beers and cold Brie sprinkled in with some wasted time. No offer to comp the bill, get a manager, or keep us there. So we paid and moved onto another establishment.

The last time was during Christmas which it was Christmas on crack here but in a festive good way. I did get carded walking in, lol... We alway like to utilize the upstairs loft area for drinks. It's a fun spot with cozy lounge and chairs. You have the main communal seating area right in the middle where you can mingle with other guest. There's bar seating along the bar counter and two sections where it's like a private area with sofas along the wall. Somewhat a vip section upstairs. Cocktails are alway good. Same as last we came for the spicy margaritas and it was as good as we remembered. For the price, totally worth it. Let's say a few was had and a headache to prove it. I think going there for happy hour is a great idea considering the prices are affordable and the food is really good. I also appreciated the complementary club soda while I waited for my order. I was a bit dismayed to find, upon arrival, that the options were kind of limited. I was still torn between the tacos, the birria fries and the spicy chicken sandwich. I took a chance and went with the chicken sandwich, hoping that it wouldn't be too spicy. I also ordered a side of fries, not knowing that the sandwich came with fries already. I don't know why I thought the sandwich same by itself. My mistake. The chicken sandwich was very good. A bit spicy but not to the point I couldn't finish it. It also had this nice sweet taste that contrasted well with the spice. I knew my wife would like it so I let her have a bite. I was also curious about my sons birria fries so I stole a bite of those. I recommend if you come in a group, be sure to share some. It would also be nice if you could upgrade the fries that come with your meal to birria fries, you know for an extra $2 or something. From what I can tell, everything is good here. If I could, next time I'm getting birria tacos with a side of birria fries! Probably the only gripe I could find was that service was on the slow side. 2 people were responsible for the whole restaurant, besides the cooking in the back. One mostly manned the bar and the other roamed the tables while helping behind the bar too. It wasn't that busy and the place isn't that big. My man wasn't lazy and was always doing something. It's just that paying the bill was a process. Eventually I got up to go pay rather than wait for the bill to come to us. I'm happy to have found The Break and hope to come back

They are a pet enthusiasts that always spoil our dogs and they have a selection of 4 different dog dishes to pick from. Our two 15 pound dogs split a single salmon dish and there was enough food for both of them. We found the sea bass and the clam chowder to be two of our favorite dishes. The sea bass comes with a mix of mushrooms and white beans along with a red wine sauce. The combination of textures between the flaky fish, soft beans, and chewy mushrooms makes for a great mouthful and the acidic and flavorful sauce brings all the ingredients together. The clam chowder was an interesting twist on the classic with the dill adding a nice extra flavor to the chowder and the herb oil applied to the top added a nice light note to The brunch special with champagne seems like a great way to spend a morning. They suggested Lido, so we decided to arrive early and have a cocktail and appetizer during their happy hour before settling in for dinner. The visit started off strong with the lobby staff engaging in a little fun banter as well as the hostess who seated us was engaging and friendly. Unfortunately anything positive stopped there because our server was anything but pleasant and welcoming. We opted to sit outside on the patio as the weather was mild and the view stunning. We did request an umbrella as the sun was strong and another employee brought one over. The server seemed to lack any personality, no smile, no response to playful joking or interactions. I asked a question about the menu because the happy hour menu I had and had selected a drink off, differed from the other three that my husband and our friends had. The waiter flatly stated that my menu was wrong and the drink I wanted to order was not available and suggested a different drink that was nothing like the one I wanted to order. There was no apology and he didn't even take the incorrect menu, it was as if he didn't care. We placed an order for two appetizers and four drinks, three of which were the same cocktail off the happy hour menu. At the same time, we inquired about a more extensive dinner menu and the waiter stated they didn't serv dinner until 5pm but it was already 4:45pm and so we requested dinner menus. The waiter asked us how many menus we wanted, which seemed strange as none of us have ever eaten at a restaurant where each individual person wasn't provided their own menu and so we had to state we wanted four menus. When the four menus arrived, one for each person, one of the three was incorrect just like the happy hour one, showing cocktails that were no longer available. The drinks and appetizers eventually came, they took at least 15 minutes with the food arriving before any of the drinks. While the food was okay, the three cocktails were pretty awful, mine being the worst of the three. They were all the same drink made with grapefruit but my personal drink was far more bitter than the other two, it wasn't palatable at all. The other two who ordered the same drink, my husband and friend drank the drinks since we were paying for them. At this point, the experience was so bad between the waiter who seemed to have no desire to serve people and the terrible cocktails that we decided we should cut our loses and leave to eat dinner elsewhere. We left one full cocktail, and two partial cocktails on the table. The bill was paid and as my husband and I brought up the rear of our group. As we were leaving the waiter remarked that he, "hoped we have a better day." This was rude, unprofessional and confirmed leaving Lido was the right choice. This was a terrible experience both with the waiter and cocktails. A place could have the most amazing food but if the customer service is lacking, the quality of food is irrelevant. I would rather have mediocre food and friendly, welcoming and engaging customer service.
