I've been to Miss prime beef quite a few times but every time I walk in I am amazed. The service is great. The ambience is just like a regular meat market you go in and there's a counter with all the meat. We walked in and we asked for a specific type of steak. We saw the prize of moving on. We needed to get five and so we asked about recommendations on a cheaper cut of steak that would feed fat people and not break the bank. They were really helpful and helping us pick out the steaks that night and then we also picked up some bacon and I believe some dried meats like ham hocks or it was turkey necks. I don't remember. We have gone back and we had thought about looking at meat packages, but we haven't done it yet. We don't have room in our freezer, but they have really good prices. If you're looking straight from the butcher check them out I think you will be surprised at what you can get there and what they do have also ask about anything you may not have been able to find they may have it. read more

I love Mr Prime beef. Inside the place is not very nice but they have amazing meat. I got there hot dogs which was 8.49 per pound so 4 hot dogs, no lie they were the best I've ever had!!! I couldn't believe I was eating a hot dog!!! Also, there pepper bacon HOLY SH*T. It was the best bacon I've ever had!! I don't think I'll be able to go back to those Costco hot dogs & bacon. Bought some frozen Cod fish and it was absolutely HORRIBLE! This place is always a hit or miss. Better off going to a regular store.

I feel a bit silly that I've never visited this butcher... literally 2 blocks from my house. While it's no Butcher Block 9 in terms of modern aesthetic, it's definitely a butcher! It's nothing fancy on the inside, and the customer service was a little off initially... but it did end up turning around once someone eventually talked to me. With no ticket system apparent, you just treat it like you're at a bar - the bartender will eventually get your order when it's busy. Their U fridge is under repair/modernization, so it looked a bit odd but they assured me they had just about everything I'd need. I ended up with a 3 bone ribeye roast that turned out great! It's a little on the pricier side, but you don't typically pay supermarket prices at a butcher so no surprise there. Worth a visit, and I think they'll be in our regular rotation! read more

I'm updating my review because Mr. Prime Beef is just downright awesome!! A few months ago, we attempted to get a side of beef and a whole pig from another local butcher with no luck getting anyone to call us back to take our order, which I wrote a review about... boo hiss! Anywho, I got around to calling Mr Prime Beef and asked them about a couple large packs I was interested in and that very same afternoon we went in to order it. I could have ordered over the phone but wanted to do so in person to see a few things and ask additional questions. The guys behind the counter were all friendly and the gentlemen who helped us was quick to assist. I subbed one item in pack and was good to go. This was Tuesday afternoon, and I asked if there was any chance it would be ready on Thursday, which he said most likely, but he can't promise me. I was good with that answer; I just didn't want to drive to town on a day I wouldn't normally need to do so.... I digress... 10:00am on the nose, Thursday morning, I receive a call, letting my know our order was ready! Each box was packed, filled to the brim, taped and double banded!! Easy to pack up in the vehicle to get it home. We went with less meat than we had originally planned because this was all for us and not additional family members! It was great to unpack it in the kitchen, sort it accordingly and pack away in our freezer. Everything is double wrapped and labeled; easy to read! Almost 200 pounds of beef, chicken and pork now fills out freezer!!! read more

I dunno why Anchorage doesn't have more butchers. Mr. Prime Beef just pisses me off cause it's so freaking pricey and nothing special. Yeah they do have a few things you can't get other places, big deal, it's a butcher, so they SHOULD have some specialty items. They get no points for that. I've tried their bargain boxes and they really aren't any great savings and the quality is just meh. And you have to order ahead, which I find bizarre. It took them a whole day to get my bargain box ready. Whatev. I haven't had a bad experience per-say, but if there was another butcher in the area, I would NEVER go to Mr Prime Beef again. My sweetheart loves their hotdogs (which have that casing that snaps when you bite into it *GACK*) so that might keep me going back, just for that. read more

I've always heard good things about this place so i went and bought 80$ worth of meat. For only myself. I asked them to package it in smaller portions because i cook for onw adult and a 1 year old. So basically for one. Well they basically packaged everything together but seperated by wax paper, so now i had to defrost everything because everything was stuck together with bits of wax paper stuck to EVERY part of the meats. and is a complete waste of meat. I'm furious because 80$ of meat for one person is a lot. Thanks for nothing guys. read more

I can only review this spot based on one quick stop--for steaks on the way to the bush. I have a tradition--first night camping I bring some ridiculously great food that makes no sense to carry--this time it was some crazy wild good thick steaks that I grilled over a fire in Lake Clark National Park--with a bottle of Cote Rotie--oh man, my mouth is watering just thinking about it! I regularly come here for fresh meats as well as pre-made side dishes. They have all kinds of fresh cut meats as well as frozen meats. The twice baked potatoes they offer as a side dish are a particular favorite in my family. I recommend this place. I'd really like to see them get more locally grown meats as well as certified organic meats. read more

I've been buying meat here for many years. One thing I've noticed is that they have consistently good product quality. I'm guessing that they have long-established relationships with good, reliable suppliers. Considering this, the prices are very reasonable. Mr Prime Beef also makes some of their own bratwurst, sausages, smoked meats and other products. They are all good, for those who appreciate such things. One of the best items they make themselves is Prime Rib Rub, a fantastic dry rub for all kinds of meats! I keep this stuff in my kitchen always and use it a lot. MPB does not usually have actual USDA Prime grade beef, which is unfortunate, but otherwise this is a great, very real butcher shop, which I hope to visit for many more years. read more

Lots of good selection. They seem to be taking great precautions as far as the flow of the store to help with social distancing. Only gripe is that on my way past the shop, a delivery driver from their store (had the name and number plastered all over it) flipped me off for driving in front of him to cross the road while he was at a red light. I found it really unprofessional. Hopefully that attitude gets taken care of. Even if I did do something wrong (which I didn't) you should be acting like that while driving your companies truck. read more

Hmmmmm...Meat/Butcher Shops....those are HARD to find up here. You know when you walk in, see guys and gals in white aprons, knives everywhere, raw chunks of huge beef being cut, and on display. Massive hot dogs for sale, thick thick bacon cut, Reindeer meat, hams...poultry. Great place to get your meats, but I have to drop a star, because the prices can hurt you. But I love, I JUST LOVE getting a 36 oz. T-Bone cut to my specs...or a Chateaubriand...this place is worth the money! read more

I am a bit biased, because my husband's aunt worked as an executive in a meat packing company in Chicago. Whenever we visited dear Aunt Marge in Chicago, she would send us home with a large care package of the best smoked meats anyone could ever be fat, dumb and happy enough to thoroughly enjoy. Nonetheless, Mr. Prime Beef has over the years, become a favorite stop for us.They do have a good variety of meats to choose from that are usually of decent quality. Upon entering this shop for the first time, I immediately found it to be inviting with items not seen any other place in town, including side dish items and snack options. The service is attentive and helpful. We have narrowed down our favorite choice to be the thick cut pork chops that we like to dress up for Thanksgiving, baked with apple slices, celery, spices and applesauce. Both of us being from the Midwest know, that theeee pork chop is non-existent up here. And what Mr. Prime Beef has is the closest we can get to, for our pork chop nirvana. We wish the ground beef choices were better here. The quality hasn't been there for us, in our experience. And yes, the prices are high. So, we don't shop here as often anymore. Mr. Prime Beef is a great shop however, and I encourage all meat lovers to give it at try. With winter soon on it's way, maybe we should try the ham, and make a nice big crock pot of bean soup with the bone....YUM. read more

As although butcher shops are few in Anchorage I almost want to give this 3 stars, but, I'm in Palmer and have much better options. I didnt think that MPB was that pricy (Tbones $9.99; rib steak 13.99; chuck roast $4.69) as a butcher shop, but definitely nothing special, the quality is mediocre at best, and labeling is entirely absent. There is no info on origin or culture (grassfed, organic, etc) so What is it? Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation product? Even Freddies has better labeling at least to the point where you know what is 'natural' (BS) and what is organic... I guess one will just have to ask, and I didn't so my bad. Alaska has a small but very high quality meat enterprise, you will find good examples of it at 3 Bears, MatValley Meats, and SaveU More in Homer, who have professional butchers who will GlAdLy cut you what you want. I did not exactly get a warm customer- friendly vibe at MPB, they didn't seem to have much patience for questions either but I have to hand it to them, they have that east coast style, sell it now, and sell it quick MO that is missing in many stores in AK especially the deli counter a Safeway or Freddies. The meat I bought, a chuck roast, was a tad 'off', a bit 'livestocky' and highly marbled which can be good or bad, but when I got home I ended up trimming quite a bit of fat off, a bit excessive I felt. After cooking it was OK, but not great, as I said, a little too fatty and that part of that hinderence comes from really not being able to get a good look at the meat until you get home and unwrap it. I doubt I'll be going back. read more

Best baked beans in town and made in house. I like getting a 1" smoked chop and heat it on the grill. The beans are a great accompaniment. If anyone likes making bean soup this place has ham chunks that are perfect for it. Multiple seasonings and sauces made here. I'm a fan. read more

They are not overly priced and they have an amazing selection. I have been to cheaper places in town but I didn't like the customer service there and they didn't have a good selection like Mr. Prime Beef; this place is really good about having a decent selection. If they don't have something there that you want, they will get it in for you if they can. We also get our dog bones there because rawhides are bad for your dogs and they always have a great selection of barrow bones!!!! The butchers are friendly and knowledgeable. The old lady and I have unhealthy addictions to the Ranch-Style bacon; unhealthy because she will likely hurt me if I eat it all without her again. From the outside this place does not look like much. But inside it is an old fashioned meat market! We bought two beef tenderlions (filet mignon) for New Years dinner. They were pricey but OMG it melted in our mouths. Cut it with a butter knife!! We also picked up some twice baked potatoes, which were a little salty but had lots of flavor. And they carry our fav McCormick's meat marinade, which has been hard to find in the grocery stores. They had everything from lamb to rabbit. Picked up a bag of beef bones for the dog.
