Huge fan of this place. It's one of the busier Saturday markets. Fresh local veggies? Check. Fresh…read morecaught seafood? Check. Man standing in the middle with a guitar singing Dead covers? Check. Locally grown obscure mushrooms? Check. I love this place and the fact it's less than 10 minutes from my house. I try to come here for all my veggie needs. It's a little more expensive, but you pay for quality. Food doesn't have to ripen on the way to Alaska, so you can actually taste the sweetness and fullness of every vegetable sold here. Open from 9AM-2PM. Get here early. Parking is limited.

I grill these in my special new cast iron oyster skillets! 2 dozen Oysters are a weekly staple during the summer when the markets in full swing. Props to the produce guy. I visited specifically to buy local sprouts. They were selling some new…read moresprout mixes I hadn't tried, but was interested in, so I checked the price then grabbed a bag and proceeded to the check stand, where I was charged more than the price posted in the produce section. I questioned the checker, who questioned another staff member nearby. They said the price charged was correct. Did I read the price card at the cooler wrong, I wondered. I had declined a receipt--I almost always do--so I dropped the sprouts off in my car, then walked back to check the posted price. That price was what I had remembered. I removed the price card to take it to the check stand. I hadn't really planned what to say, whether to ask for a partial refund so that I was paying the price marked, or what, but, turns out, Mr. Produce Man saw me taking the price card, and asked me what was up. I told him. He said probably they hadn't made new price cards to jibe with the register price yet, then he asked if I wanted a refund. I explained that I didn't have a receipt, so he asked if I wanted another package of the sprouts for FREE! I said yes, but I was uncomfortable walking out with merchandise I hadn't paid for. So he walked me to the door, chatting with me about how much and how fast his wholesale costs were rising. But I gotta say, his response put a smile on my face. He didn't want an unhappy customer. He wanted things to be right. Stand up dude. I'll go back.

Review of New Sagaya City Market - Anchorage, Alaska…read more Five weeks ago, I moved from San Francisco to Anchorage, settling near the downtown area. One of my first missions was to find a coffee spot that felt like home--a place with not just great coffee, but genuine people behind the counter. After trying a handful of cafes, a neighbor suggested New Sagaya City Market, just two blocks from my house. What a win. The market itself offers high-end, quality products. Yes, prices are a bit higher than what you'd find at Walmart or Target, but coming from San Francisco, I was prepared for that. What truly sets this place apart, though, isn't just the products--it's the people. From the very beginning, the baristas here have shown me the most consistent and heartfelt customer service I've experienced since moving to Anchorage. They don't just serve coffee; they connect with you, listen to your stories, and make you feel like part of the community. Today was a perfect example. I slipped in the parking lot (rookie mistake--no spikes on my shoes for the icy ground). After two kind gentlemen helped me up, I walked inside with my spilled coffee. Annie, a new barista I hadn't met before, immediately offered me a fresh cup with such kindness and care. That small gesture meant so much--it wasn't just about the coffee, it was about feeling seen and supported. I also want to shout out Monica and Shea, who I met when I first arrived five weeks ago. They've been consistently amazing--funny, charming, and genuinely interested in conversations about life, community, and even my adventures back in San Francisco. Every time I come in, I leave feeling lighter, happier, and more connected. Thank you, Annie, Monica, and Shea, for making New Sagaya City Market my go-to coffee spot. You've given me more than great coffee--you've given me a sense of belonging in a new city. --- Would you like me to make this version short and punchy for Google/Yelp reviews, or keep it longer and more storytelling-focused for something like a blog or social post?
