I stumbled across this charming neighborhood bar after work needing to unwind. The staff was so welcoming that I immediately felt like family. Alyssa was serving tables and I even overheard her guests talking highly of her. She brought me my food with a smile and was very helpful. I was very impressed with the level of service that the bartender Cameron provided even with a full bar and restaurant. I will definitely be frequenting this place for now on. This bar seems like a dive bar from the outside, but is actually quite intimate. When we went on the weekend, they had a live band performing. The drinks and the food were definitely good and filling and correctly priced, although I wouldn't say that it was memorable enough for me to suggest to others. However, the friendly staff and overall ambiance as well as affordability in general would make me consider this either a first stop or end of the night bar to visit, even if not the main event. Unfortunately they're overpriced for what they offer: the service here went from ok to bad, coffee is never hot and the food is a mix of old leftovers, plus they play heavy metal at breakfast - really not the type of music you want to hear to relax and eat. So, my third time to be disappointed at this place. Last time I ordered fish n chips and had to send it back because they left the skin on. They still mad me pay for half of it because there was no manager on site to approve taking it off the bill. Today I wanted the burger lunch combo and asked to leave the cheese and onion off. If I could give this location 0 starts, I would simply based on my 1 experience here. I stumbled upon this establishment when one day trying to get some laundry done. Conveniently Mr. Peabody's Bar & Grill is located next to a laundromat that unfortunately does not break change for bills with a denomination of higher than $10...that is another review. Anywho, I stumbled across this establishment because I was in need of change. Well Rachel, I think the hostess/waitress was of assistance. I would like to preface that Rachel's demeanor was unpleasant from our first interaction a sage was rather snarky...personally I believe it had to do with the color of my skin because she seemed pleasant to others that she was assisting but I digress. Rachel, the waitress/hostess claimed she did not have change nor could she provide me with change however she did recommend that I try another "next door" establishment. Luckily for Rachel, I chose to be a customer. (here is where the review is beneficial). While my original purpose in this business was to for my own personal gain, Rachel offered the most unpleasant customer service prior to and even once I wanted to purchase an item for change. I was charged $1.07 for ranch, that I didn't receive. In addition, I watched Rachel politely gather my change from her apron directly. She also took the time to serve food to a table and then deliver a check before finally handing me a tray with my change. Due to Rachel taking the time to assist, I made sure to leave her a $0.93 tip ultimately being charged $2 to get change. Mind you before she decided to serve others, I let her know, I just needed the bills. Adding insult to injury, I called the establishment to follow up with the supervisory staff. Rachel not only answered the phone, placed me on hold acting like she got someone other than herself, and came back to explain she could assist however anyone above her would be on lunch for 1-2 hours (5pm on Sunday) ironic huh? Even if I wanted to try this establishment, Rachel 100% ruined that experience. This business is directly off the freeway, has multiple screens, and could be potentially a wonderful place for not only a local but also someone traveling through. I think Rachel's customer service could not only use some improvement but also some training/coaching. read more

I loved the live jazz quartet! Nothing can compare with the beauty of instruments being played in a natural setting. The ambience at Mr.Peabody's is old school saloonish...is that a word? So its comfortable. Staff were great. The heavy pour of Chardonnay made me very happy. Food was just passable. I stopped in while I was doing my laundry, thought I'd get a beer. I sat down and I noticed it was pretty busy. I noticed that there was one waitress for all the people that were there, inside and outside. As I sat and enjoyed my beer I noticed that the only waitress there was busting her ass. After two beers, I made sure that I left a note telling her that she deserved a raise because I had never seen anybody work that hard. She did it with a smile, I never quit at the pace she was at. We stopped in on a recent Sunday night, and this is what we noticed: - Music starts at 6pm...we had arrived around 5:15pm, but it appears that most folks pile in right before the music starts. - The place is a dive bar, so don't expect more. We loved it! - We decided to order the two specials, the Prime Rib and the Macadamia Nut Cod. Both were really good...and, I don't think I left a thing on my plate even though the portion was massive. My wife was able to take half her meal home. - Service was great...we told our server that we weren't in any hurry, and she didn't pressure us to move along at all (which I thought might happen once we finished eating in order to open up a table). - The music was fun...not the best jazz I've heard, but perfect for a local hangout. You will find Mr. Peabody's tucked away in a little strip mall just off the freeway in Encinitas. Don't let the location fool you though. This place was hopping on a Saturday night. Looked like mainly locals but also some people that came by for good eats and drinks. We had the chicken tacos and the bacon red potatoes (they just sounded good). Prices were great and food even better. Two huge chicken tacos with a nice side salad and the ramikin of potatoes was massive and quite filling. They were topped with fresh tomatoes and green onion which broke up the heaviness of the potato and bacon. Drinks were good too. My husband had a Jameson sour, and I opted for a vodka club soda and a rum and coke. Great value, our total was just under $30. Great local spot with good food. Recently changed the menu and the prices have gone up. The biggest disappointment is they no longer have the turkey tacos on the happy hour menu. It was 2 of them and they were delicious. They now are offering a single turkey taco that's larger, but it's on a flour tortilla and is kinda hard as they grill it.. I've been coming here for years and the food and staff is amazing but the ranch is not the same and its been over 6 weeks since it has changed. We went to Mr. Peabody's for the first time for Father's Day. We sat at the outside patio, which was nice. They have live jazz on Sundays and we could easily enjoy the band from the patio. There is one unisex restroom but it was clean and the water was hot. Good signs that they are probably compliant with food prep rules. The French onion soup was amazing. Maybe the best I've ever had. The ribeye I had was overdone on one end but cooked perfectly on the other. It could have benefited from some additional season but it was decent. The wait staff was very friendly, helpful, and busy. The staff is super friendly, the place is clean, quite large but still offers a darker music club vibe even though sports fan will still be entertained with the numerous TVs around the bar area. There is a small patio in front of the main door so you can also enjoy sunny late afternoon while sipping a $3 happy hour beer. Go there.
