At first I was going to go to one of the bigger company stores but when I looked online I just felt they were overcharging on everything, whereas the Mattress guy gave me a great deal and took away my old mattress for a small and reasonable fee. All in all the amount I paid was great value for the great quality and I love that it's made locally and I'm supporting a small local business. The delivery guys were super friendly and easy going and my whole experience was just fantastic. I would definitely recommend and will go back for my next purchase. Mr. Mattress has been around since 1964 and the mattresses are made in BC. We bought a queen size mattress a couple of years ago and it has been just fine. We wanted an old-school two-sided mattress. Mattresses that you can't flip are a huge rip-off. They were just invented by mattress companies so consumers would have to buy mattresses twice as often. We talked to a very knowledgeable no BS kind of guy. The showroom is nothing fancy - it's an old warehouse in East Van. But who cares with such good deals? I highly recommend Mr. Mattress. read more

tl;dr : I do not recommend "the turner" mattress for light-weight side sleepers. Great service, no pressure sales person But after a year and a half of sleeping on this bed , it's just not a good fit for me. I knew after the second night that I'd made a mistake. But mr. mattress doesn't do returns so I tried to hold out hope that I just needed time. I'm 135lbs female, side sleeper, with a decade of lower back pain from shitty mattresses prior. I was hoping this one would be my problem solver, but it's just too firm. I toss and turn all night trying to get comfy. I've added a mattress topper. 10% improvement, but not enough. I've started sleeping with a pillow under my hip/lower back, that helps a lot. The mattress is also not good with motion transfer. I feel every movement my partner makes. He does ok on it, he's a side sleeper as well, but he's also 40 lbs heavier than me. And I definitely sink toward him when he's in bed. Great build, great quality, but no good for me. I'm planning to buy a twin where I can have a lengthy sleep trial. And also... sleep by myself. wish me luck. read more

I popped by to check out the mattresses after reading the glowing reviews on Yelp. I wandered on my own and the only person was in the office. I did not get the chance to ask questions about the mattresses and so I could only base it on the prices stated. I looked at the Bennett which is supposed to be one of the better mattresses and I find the pricing to be slightly higher than the mid-range mainstream (Sealy, Serta, Beautyrest etc) mattresses I was kiv-ing. So I do not think the prices here are that cheap though they are certainly affordable and reasonable. The place can be quite intimidating if you are new to buying mattresses and have no idea what to do. It is probably a good place if you know what you want and do not require much assistance in choosing a mattress. DON'T BUY this mattress it was mid-range here. Spent 1k for just the mattress and what a waste of money, within 2 months it is so soft and worn, all firmness is gone. Only buy the more expensive ones or go to another store and buy known brands. I will not repeat this mistake again. Stay away from buying mid range mattresses they are just that mid-range and you wont get your money's worth. Their most expensive pillows not the foam one but the normal pillows are crap also. Flashy salesroom and slightly pushy salespeople. I'll never go back. Mr. Mattress, as cornball as the name suggests, is brilliant. Their prices match the quality. Go and see for yourself. I have sent and will continue to send my (happy) friends to shop there. Truly rare is a company that replies to a complaint and does their damndest to satisfy the customer. I was seduced by the NO "NO" Flip and sign and pulled into a dark alley (it was dark outside) parked the car, climbed up a steep set of stairs into a dimly lit showroom with lots of mattresses leaning against walls . This is a No Frills Showroom. As I walked to the back of the store I saw two guys off to my right drinking beers in office with a desk a couple of computers and some exercise equipment (yes exercise equipment!). Found this place after searching google in frustration trying to find ANY place in Vancouver that could deliver a mattress in under 2 weeks. Reviews on Yelp and Reddit were glowing, so I figured why not check it out? Place looks super sketchy - it's accessed up a flight of stairs in a parking lot in a fairly industrial area of town, and there is definitely nothing fancy about the "showroom" area (piles of mattresses in a big empty room). However ... Bob was super helpful, did not try to up-sell, just asked what price range I was looking at and then honestly stated the pros and cons of each mattress around that price range. He's been running this business locally for 30 years and his father before him, so he knows his stuff, and the mattresses look and feel to be excellent quality even at the lower end of the price range, with a $550 full mattress I looked at expected to last for 10 years or more easily, and super comfortable too. Bob also didn't hesitate to advise on the best places to buy a memory foam mattress topper, although he doesn't sell them himself, and what to look for. His philosophy appears to be give it to the customer straight, and they'll either decide to buy or they won't, it's their choice. And I'm totally fine with that. I did in fact order a mattress and they can indeed deliver the very next day, so long as their delivery guy still has availability in the schedule (though they advise ideally ordering a couple days in advance if possible, just in case the deliveries get booked up). Miles ahead of Ikea, Sleep Country, any other retailer I checked who clearly didn't keep inventory on hand and estimated 2 weeks delivery if I was lucky. And I probably got a better mattress too. Well, I have to give it to Yelp. Considering I didn't know what I was doing, and really don't like going down to Vancouver much (due to almost being carjacked there when my GPS malfunctioned), this worked out pretty well. The showroom is located in an what appeared to be an industrial area, so there was not a lot of pedestrian traffic on a Saturday. I was slightly put off by the dirty shag green carpet, as if I wasn't already put off by picking a out a new mattress. Although I love to shop generally, mattresses are not one of my shopping strengths. Mattresses are big, expensive, and sort of boring. I can get kind of cheap about them. I got over the carpet pretty quickly. I do not know if this was the cheapest place to buy a mattress, because I didn't shop around. I CAN say I was very happy with my purchase. For once, I ended up with the right mattress. I wake up with zero pain. This is a tremendous improvement over both what I had, which was ancient collapsing thing that came with my place, and what I have bought in the past, which to be honest with you was usually whatever was on sale. I am just not a mattress connoisseur. I liked the fact the mattresses are made in Canada and the "flippable" aspect, giving the mattress a longer life. After I spoke with them (prior to my visit) and they said they would deliver to Whistler, I decided this was where I was going to look. Delivery was fast and efficient. They deliver to Whistler (and Squamish, just FYI) for an extra fee. The fee for disposal was worth it to me as well. I think it was a lot cheaper than calling the junk company and then paying disposal fees here. (My SUV is too small for a queen mattress.)The biggest problem I had in this whole experience experience was getting a cab back to my hotel from the showroom in the pouring rain on a weekend. Yep, I am a happy camper. I do believe that this was a good decision, whether or not there are cheaper options. (This mattress sure doesn't FEEL cheap to me.) My mattress is so comfortable, sometimes I am not sure I want to get out of bed. :) *PS: The style of mattress I purchased is called a "Bennett". It is the number one seller. I have had the unfortunate experience of having a mattress from here that is not standing up to the test of time- and it's only been 2-3 years since the purchase (it's also become extremely uncomfortable). We have been careful in flipping the mattress regularly and it has already sagged and has an area in the corner that has become warped (see photos). I didn't want to attempt to contact or return it because I don't want to exchange it for another mattress from this place. I also don't want to put a foam over top of it- I may as well just buy a mattress that won't need an extra layer. I'm giving an extra star because my son's mattress (different model from one in picture) seems to be ok 'ish' - for now. Wouldn't recommend getting a mattress here- just do some research on other brands that are more durable, comfortable, better quality and also give you a few months to try it out (this place didn't when I purchased it). My boyfriend and I decided it was time to upgrade our sagging sad sack of a mattress. Since he loves to do online research, we eventually came across Mr. Mattress with all its positive reviews. We live in the area so we took a stroll down to the showroom. Yes, as everyone says, the place is not fancy to look at, but come on, you're there for the mattresses, right? And you should be, because these guys know what they're talking about. We didn't ever feel like we were being pressured into a decision - quite the opposite. We were told about the benefits and the drawbacks about each mattress, then left to make our choice. We laid on several before we decided on a very firm mattress with a latex memory foam topper. I didn't even know that was an option! Now we sleep like angels resting on a cloud. No exaggeration, this is the best bed I've ever slept in. Not only is the bed excellent, the service was too. Our delivery guy was here right at the appointed time and was in and out within 10 minutes. There was a spontaneous hardcore rain shower just as he showed up (Vancouver, right?) but he was cheerful, friendly and efficient nonetheless. If you're even slightly considering upgrading your mattress, I would highly recommend you make a stop here. You'll get a good deal and you won't get the whole sales-y spiel. We purchased a new mattress, all-wood foundation, and bed frame from Mr. Mattress a couple of months ago. I deliberately waited before writing this review to make sure the product lived up to our expectations. So far, it has. Before making our purchase with Mr. Mattress, we visited two major national retailers: a popular mattress retail chain and a department store here in downtown Vancouver. The former aggressively pushed memory-foam mattresses, all of which were too soft and smelled awful. The salesman also wanted us to put down $100, even though we hadn't made our decision yet, just to have a shot at getting the mattress delivered the following Wednesday. (This was on a Saturday.) The department store had better options, but the lead time was, if I recall correctly, 5-7 business days for the mattress we liked. At Mr. Mattress, we found a slightly more comfortable mattress with a similar price tag--and we were able to get it, along with the foundation and frame, delivered that same Saturday. The salesman and delivery guy were the same person; he turned up literally two hours after we left the store, helped me put together the new bed frame, and took away our old mattress and foundation. Delivery was $20, and removal was another $40. The new mattress, an extra-firm 9" pocket-coil, took about a week to break in on each side, but it's been terrific since. I wake up well-rested and without the upper-back/shoulder problems that our old latex mattress aggravated. My girlfriend is just as happy. We flip the mattress regularly to ensure even wear, and we haven't noticed any sagging or softening beyond the initial break-in period. We'll see how things go from here, but we're very happy so far. It was refreshing to deal with a small, local business that sells locally made products (our mattress and foundation were both made in BC) and goes the extra mile for its customers. I decided to check out Mr Mattress based on the recommendation of a coworker, and I'm so glad I did. Buying was straightforward. You go to the showroom and get to try out the mattresses as you see fit. The owner doesn't try to push you but is readily available to provide input and advice. The man really knows his stuff and was able to explain precisely what you should expect with each mattress. But what really impressed me was how they dealt with an issue that arose because of my lack of experience with purchasing mattresses. I arranged for the mattress to be delivered the next week and the delivery guys were right on time. This is where I discovered that I had mistakenly bought a mattress that was too big for the frame I had (because - I realize in hindsight - I provided measurements for the frame, not the mattress that would have to fit inside the frame). Was this a problem? Not at all. Shout out to the delivery guys who were courteous and friendly, despite my error, and arranged for a replacement mattress that was the correct size to be delivered two days later. I have wanted to write this review for some time now. A few months ago I needed a new mattress , the one I was sleeping on, had a spring sticking out of the side. I have lived around the corner from Mr. Mattress for 12 years now. I knew that when it was time to buy a new mattress I would try these guys. As others here have stated, it is a no frills place with some crazy scary rickety stairs to climb up to the showroom. The salesman was knowledgeable and I did end up paying 200 hundred dollars more than I wanted to, but, he did sway me to a hotel mattress that he claimed will last me longer than my last one (only time will tell). My final comment would be if you live in East Vancouver, and need a new mattress this is the place to try. We recently bought a mattress and box spring from Brian at Mr. Mattress and couldn't be happier. Brian's knowledge of continuous vs pocket coil mattresses was critical in our decision. We got the Bennet pocket coil double mattress and we have been sleeping like babies since it arrived. I no longer wake up at every turn my wife makes in the night. Pocket coils make such a difference!
