The lasagna itself didn't have much sauce, but there was plenty of sauce around it that it didn't make a difference either way and there was enough left over for the bread! The cheese made it a little hard to cut into, but overall it was delicious, and even better with their complimentary parmesan packets! After all of these years, I still love coming here for their pizza and pastas. Yes, I know that there are other places around the area that are newer and have flashier interior and menu. Mr. G's just has a little something that some of the other places don't. They're always super friendly and I always get a kick out of the chit chat that comes up around there. The pizzas are always good and we love their baked ziti with meat sauce. My husband always has to get an order of their spaghetti with meat sauce whenever we're there. My first time visiting this restaurant today, I have heard good and not so good things about it but I love Italian food. I was on my lunch break and decided to go for the spaghetti "special " which is on Mondays. It was horrible! No seasoning, very bland and I wasted my money. It came with a salad and bread and the salad couldn't be more boring than the spaghetti. The cashier was very friendly and I asked her which is best, the spaghetti or lasagna? She said I don't like either , so that was not helpful!! Atmosphere was nice but I wasted my money and lunch on this disappointing meal. Trying to eat and enjoy time with my 81 year old mother. Table right behind us had an employee rolling silver ware and 3 more talking and they got louder & louder so I had my finger to my ear turned around and said I can not hear. Was then talked about, cussed at and harassed during the entire meal. As we're leaving we said nothing but thanked the lady that took our order and brought our food. One of the ladies made a comment as we walked by which upset me mom. Both had words and threats. all 3 employees started yelling and getting in my moms face. I finally got her out and to the car with them following and yelling vulgar words to us. Not sure who hired these employees but they are rude and disrespectful. I'd give this place 0 stars if I could, we'll tonight I decided to order Mr G's over the phone. Ordered a Philly cheese steak add chicken, with fries. I then get to Mr G's pick up my order, the receipt says add chicken so I figured my order was correct. I get home about 15 minutes away. Open my food and take a bite, and there's no chicken. So I call in and an older lady picks up. She works at the front counter, most likely a server. She answers and tells me to bring back my food so they can add chicken to my sub. I tell her no, she then continues to argue with me saying they won't make another sandwich, I have to bring mine back. Then finally says okay I will make it, after me saying this will be the last time I eat here. I get there they say they didn't charge me for my chicken so they make me pay the up charge. I did then another woman brings me a bag of chicken and say here you go. The young lady most likely the owners daughter was sitting behind in the kitchen laughing peaking through the window. I must say being familiar with the restaurant business myself this is no way a restaurant should operate. But hey you can't fix ignorance. I do not recommend this place at all. They're food is very dry and they don't have any kind of manners behind the counter. I think the young lady should be fired and also the older lady should be fired as well. Her being a little older, you'd think she would of handled the situation a little better. The impact this place had 10 years ago still lingers today, as there are still people coming in. However, nothing there is the same as it was. Went in for the first time in over a decade a couple days ago. Ordered chicken parm and a mini pizza. The chicken in the chicken parm was literally a frozen Tyson chicken patty. Red sauce was out of a damn can. And as many have mentioned, I think they microwave and reheat their pastas. Pizza was burnt on the bottom, absolutely disgusting. First time at Mr. G's, and likely the only visit. My wife ordered the "special", and said it wasn't. Just not good. I ordered a pizza, and it was barely lukewarm. At a pizza place I assume the pizza goes from the oven to the customer , this one took the long way. I asked the server to have it heated, that I expected it to be hot. A few minutes later someone came out, the pizza guy in the kitchen said the pizza would be burnt if he heated it up. I said I wanted a hot and unburnt pizza. This was the worse restaurant experience I've encountered since being in AL. My family waited an hr for our food and when it finally came out everything was cold besides the pizza. Plus the waiter said the wait was because they gave our pizza to another table and she asked if we'd be ok with just eating their cheese pizza. The positive is the flavor of the red sauces are excellent and the lasagna and spaghetti is delicious!! But, there is more negative here. This place is not a nice atmosphere and portions are too small with prices higher than ever. The kids alfredo meal came with no bread or anything for $7 and the meal was cold. I ordered bread a la cart to go with it and then also had to pay extra for a cup of dipping marinara. I understand it's a business and times are hard but give us a reason to want to drop a half a days worth of income for a family meal there and don't be skimpy on portions please. It would also make more sense if the place was nicer (especially the bathrooms). Why choose this place when Olive Garden is down the road with unlimited bread and salad, big portions and clean bathrooms and environment? It just doesn't make good sense to me so I couldn't give a good review.I hope improvements are made and these guys start getting better reviews because I see that I am not the only one that rates low. I have gone here many times as I live in the area and my family likes it. A few years ago, it was really good. It's honestly kind of a hit or miss with food and service now. Most of the time, the food is good but I have bitten into a cold meatball more than once. I have also had burnt sauce. I've had some negative experiences with the staff. One time I got yelled at by a cashier while trying to get a pickup order. One of my family members also got told off for ordering fried fish, which was the special that day. All things considered, most of the staff is nice but the few that are not great kind of ruin the atmosphere. Due to this, I give it two stars. read more

Today was our fist visit since they started charging a full soft drink price for water. Really a cup of water cost $1.89 same price as a soft drink? My son placed a to go of lasagna one of Mr. G's signature items and 25 minutes later he was walking out the door with his food. Waiting 25 minutes is excessive to say the least. Several minutes later another customer walks to the counter and places her order. She also ordered take out and left the building 10 minutes earlier than we did. The spaghetti and also the pizza seemed that way and I think your typical Papa Johns or other franchises are better by far. The prices are very reasonable and the cheese bread my wife said was great. Called in an order for pick up. Should have checked it before leaving but just asked if everything was there. Got home and realized I was missing my wife's order. Immediately called and was out on hold. I got in the car and started driving back up there. I live exactly 10 min and 22 seconds away. Walked right up to the lady next to the phone and she had completely forgotten I was on hold. She picked up the phone and I said hello. She couldn't believe that I was missing anything. I used to love Mr. G's, but I would say over the last 3-4 times we've been there it has been absolute CRAP. For instance, tonight I had a pick up order for my family. We waited more than 30 minutes in the line. Once I finally get to pick up my order and get home...it's wrong. Soggy sandwich with everything else being cold from sitting out for so long. The grilled cheese is burnt to a crisp, (with no cheese) there are none of the sauces we ordered (aka the only thing that makes this food even remotely edible) and obviously no one to answer the phone to pick them up. Oh and the show was nice too. Waiting for more than 30 minutes was only made worse by witnessing staff bicker back and forth not only with themselves, but with other customers. Overall 0/10. Came into town to eat with a old buddy. Decided to go to Mr G's. He hadn't eaten there in a while and I hadn't in a few years. Entered the restaurant and basically the same after the years, same laid back establishment. While ordering he asked for water and was told he would have to pay full price for a styrofoam cup which was $2.40 for water and ice or buy a bottle of bottled water which I'm sure was probably nestle or deer park, which ever one is cheaper at Sam's. He paid for a regular drink regardless. After ordering he used his card in the machine not paying attention to a little sign under it that said 4% charge of order price with what ever card used. So we went from months ago businesses begging folks to use debit versus cash because of coin shortage to a charge of 4% tack on. Let's do the math so if they had a ATM machine I could get $300 for a few of $1.50 to $3.00 to get that. So if we purchased $75 the fee would be the same for the ATM withdrawal. So instead of supporting your customers your milking the cow. Good thing for hometown customers. read more

Tried this place maybe 3-4 years ago and it was ok. I think I just didn't quite find "my dish." This time I got the chicken Alfredo and a cup of southern sweet tea and honestly had to force myself to stop before I ate it all (which was a lot). Mr.G's is an awesome "Americanized" Italian restaurant, but they also have a variety of sandwiches. They have daily specials. They make their own salad dressings, at least it tastes homemade if not. Fair prices on food. Don't have to leave a tip. Service is great. Definitely beats Olive Garden. read more
