For years I've driven past China No 1 in Northport and never once stepped inside--until today. After eating there, I'm honestly scratching my head trying to solve the mystery of why it took me so long. I called in a takeout order, which is something I usually avoid. Let's be honest--takeout food often rides home like it's been trapped in a sauna. Fried food turns soggy, sauces disappear, and by the time you open the container it looks like it just survived a long trip through the Amazon rainforest. But since I ordered the Shrimp Szechuan Style with grilled vegetables, I decided to roll the dice. About ten minutes after picking it up, I got home and popped open that 21st-century "Tupperware" container--and the food was still steaming hot. Not warm... not "microwave revival" hot... I mean fresh off the stove hot. The first bite was magical. It had that love-at-first-sight feeling... or like that first date when you get butterflies down in the gizzard meeting someone special. The shrimp were fresh, the vegetables were cooked just right, and there was plenty of sauce--no dry "Sahara Desert" situation going on here. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. This meal absolutely delivered. Now when you place your order, the lady on the phone might not be competing for any Southern hospitality awards--but she was efficient and clearly knew what she was doing because the meal was spot on. When I stopped inside, the restaurant was also very clean on this late Saturday afternoon, which is always a great sign. Maybe I've been hanging with the wrong crowd because nobody has ever mentioned China No 1 to me. Their loss. Turns out the best Chinese takeout in Northport has been hiding in plain sight for years... and the only mystery left is why I waited so long to try it. On a road trip with my sister and she had a cravin' for Chinese. Found this restaurant in a shopping mall (ESSEX SQUARE Marketpkace) driving through Northport, Alabama. We went in at 1 PM on a Saturday. There was no one eating in. There were several takeout orders while we were there. The server was friendly and very efficient. Service was fast. For an appetizer, we tried the Crab Rangoons. They were delicious. Then we both got Hot and Sour Soup. It lived up to the hot part (heat wise). It was so hot that it was still warm even after we had almost finished with our entrées. My sister got the Moo Goo Gai Pan and I got General Tao's Chicken. Both lunch specials came with an eggroll and pork fried rice. The fried rice was especially good. The portions were generous and the food was good. This is a small shop with several tables inside. Definitely give it a try if you are in this area. read more

I love this restaurant. They make it so easy to order online and pickup. My friends and I love to order here and do basically one of everything so we can have it all. The portion sizes are well worth the money you are paying for (it's not really that expensive at all) All meals with noddles are amazing. So is the beef and broccoli. read more

This place is one of my regulars. I decided to take my mother there because she had a taste for Chinese. Got home all the way in palm harbor only to notice the Crab Rangoon, Fried Wontons and Spring Rolls were way over cooked burnt and dry as hell. I guess they need a lesson on the art of Chinese foods. Best Chinese in Tuscaloosa and Northport!!! This is our favorite place! Great lunch specials. Freshly prepared food and awesome service. You can't go wrong here. We've had the Beef and Broccoli, Mongolian Beef, the BEST Orange Chicken, Chicken and Mushroom, Sweet and Sour Pork, Sesame Chicken, Kung Pao.... whatever you get it's amazing. Food is delicious and fresh, maybe the best Chinese food in Tuscaloosa. We've lived in Tuscaloosa a long time and have somehow never tried this place until now. We needed a place to eat on Christmas Day and this place did not disappoint. General Tsao's chicken was fresh and flavorful, as were the crab rangoons and house fried rice. I didn't like the type of noodle used for the house Lo mein, but the flavor was nice. My whole family enjoyed it, we will definitely be back. read more

Used to live right by this place. The made-to-order food is great--particularly the sweet and sour chicken, the sesame chicken, and the roast duck. The service is very good. The owner remembered my name and favorite order, and always took time to speak with me even if she was working in the kitchen. That kind of attention to customer service is too rare in the Chinese food industry. The dining facilities are clean and well-maintained, but if you want take-out, don't worry. It has never taken them more than ten minutes to cook my order, and it is always steaming and fresh. You can't find a more competently run Chinese restaurant in Northport or Tuscaloosa. read more

Been to nearly all the Chinese restaurants in town and surrounding towns, so I can say a few things with confidence. This place has probably the best egg drop soup I've had. Shanghai spring rolls are delectable. Portions are good, wait time is great, prices are great, if you order over 20 dollar you get a free two liter soda, and they also have a second authentic Chinese menu if you're feeling adventurous. All menu items are equally delicious, but if you want duck go somewhere else---not like you're going to ask for duck anyway, though. read more

We ate here last week. It's no China Fun (my favorite Chinese restaurant in Alberta City that was devastated by the tornado in April) but I guess it will have to do. The food is cooked up fresh (not served in steamer pans) but not quite as tasty. I think this place just recently opened. I tried the Chicken Lo mein--lunch portion. I liked it.

We live close by so we thought we give it a shot. Prices were good, you get a lot for the money. We got some soup to start (hot and sour) not too bad. the sauce for the pot stickers was really good, but the pot stickers.....not so much. Hot spicy beef for main course....the beef had been in the MSG so long it was like rubber and made us a little ill later. Might go get some soup in a pinch. Kitchen was very clean and the equipment looked new, the hostess was very nice. This is a "takeout" place; they have tables to eat-in, but not really set up for it. read more

Their Chinese/American menu is one of the best in town....you can watch them make the food as the kitchen is open to view. Everything is freshly prepared and tastes great. If you want a real treat and are a little adventurous, try their Chinese menu for authentic cuisine. These dishes have a little less sauce, don't have the sugar like American dishes and are extremely tasty. The bok choy and garlic vegetables coupled with the spicy chicken is now a staple of mine. If you want a really spicy hot dish I recommend the "Hot Pot" you can request any meats that you want but it comes with a sampling of all they sell and it is .....hot....... Have fun and enjoy!
