Today, I met a friend for lunch at China Bob's, one of those local gems that never disappoints. I went with the Spicy Shrimp with Szechuan Sauce and a side of fried rice. The shrimp and mixed vegetables were spot-on--fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. As for the "spicy" part... well, let's just say if you've been eating hot food as long as I have, you're not breaking a sweat unless there's an actual fire in your mouth. Still, delicious all the same! Now, fair warning--this isn't fine dining. Your meal comes on a plastic disposable plate, and drinks are sold by the bottle. Prices are very reasonable, but if you're hankering for a refill, you'll have to buy another bottle. So sip that water or Pepsi slowly and make it last. The dining area is spotless, the service is quick, and the staff is friendly as always. Sure, there can be a little language barrier now and then, but if this old country boy can figure it out, I promise you can too. So grab your chopsticks (or a fork, no judgment here) and swing by this clean, quiet spot next time you're in the area. One of the better Chinese places in town. The service was really nice and sweet. The food was like I never had before. They cook it way differently then I had before but that's the best thing. Of all the Chinese restaurants in Tuscaloosa and Northport I'd have to say this one has the best flavors and portion size.

Popped in because we were headed to the country for work... the lack of customers at noon was a little concerning but the prices were decent enough to give it a try... the egg drop soup came quickly and was the ONLY upside to this meal. Followed behind that was what they claimed to be General Tso chicken... no chilis no broccoli just plain chicken in a watery sweet chilli sauce. The lo mein was rubbery and way to salty and egg roll was nothing but fried cabbage. I haven't ever had anything bad from here. My favorite is the Singapore Thai fun extra spicy! The Mongolian beef is the best there is in Tuscaloosa. The lady that works behind the counter is always there, but consistently friendly and urgent. I had the Teriyaki Chicken dish and rice when I went there, it is by far one of the best Oriental restaurants out there in T Town. The food is prepared pretty quickly, if fact so quick that they could be considered a fast food restaurant by most standards. The food that they offer the customers is pristine enough to warrant more and more visits, the staff being quite hospitable to any customer that enters as well. We are apparently tourists in this town, the owner knows that too. Therefore the owner decided to skip on the soup that comes with lunch special, without any explanation. I didn't want to complain because it is the day after Christmas. Besides, the portion is not the biggest among Chinese lunch spots. I asked them to serve the food in to-go boxes despite dining in, because 10 times out of 10, it's not possible to finish the food from any Chinese lunch special in the metro Atlanta area. Today I ordered General Tsos chicken and honey chicken from here. When I tasted it I noticed the texture was weird. So I called them to see what kind of chicken they used and the man hesitantly told me they use chicken necks. HOW DO YOU GET MEAT FROM CHICKEN NECKS?!?!?!? LOVE! China Bob! I drive all the way across town, passing MANY other Chinese places. We eat at China Bob at least once a week. Every week. My 3 year old son asks to go nearly every day! I don't generally eat rice, but it is wonderful, the white and fried. We usually get the same thing, even tho we say we are going to get something else. But I have had many things on the menu. My husband is a VERY picky eater and isn't crazy about Chinese. He LOVES the "Hot pepper steak". My favorite is the 3 Delicacies, and my kids love the "Chicken on a stick" (Teriyaki chicken) and the Sesame Chicken. China Bob also has the best Egg Drop Soup in Tuscaloosa. It is flavorful and fantastic!! Now the All Star. China Bob, Crab Ragoon. I am a crab ragoon fanatic. Everywhere we visit, vacation, or travel from Alabama up the Eastern Sea Board that I have stopped at... NOBODY can compair to China Bob Crab Ragoon. They are Fresh, hot, delicious, creamy, the perfect combo of sweet and savory and always crisp! The filling is NOT over powered by the wonton. The filling is the star.
