My husband and I each got the Pick Two with sandwiches and soup and salad. Everything was delicious. Portion sizes were perfect for lunch. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable with a dairy allergy. I would definitely eat here again.

First time at this spot, and my initial impression was positive. I would say, I love, love, love…read morethat they use Big Green Egg's inside the restaurant on the line. If you've never had meat (or VEGGIES!) cooked on a BGE, it will change your life. This fact alone will bring me back to try other things. Before I get into the meal, my only real complaint was that they only had a soda machine and tea. I had brought my mother along, and she already had lunch and wanted just to sit and chat. As it was a very cold day she was gonna order a coffee and they don't offer anything hot! It's definitely an opportunity to expand here even if it was just so simple as putting a Keurig machine in the back. I had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. It is served with grilled chicken in a grilled wrap and cheddar cheese. If there was a buffalo sauce, I didn't taste any. I was a little disappointed in the wrap. The flavor didn't really stand out as being cooked on the Big Green Egg. The cheese wasn't really melted, which can be a common problem with shredded cheddar cheese, but it also didn't really have the buffalo flavor that I was looking for in a buffalo chicken wrap (maybe it was a Toledo Ohio wrap I don't know just not spicy. ) It served with a side of ranch which I juiced up with some Cholula and that helped. I i'm not knocking the quality of the food because it was good. It just didn't live up to the expectations I had in my head based on the menu description. It also came with a side, which I chose the broccoli salad. This was nicely done with bacon, I believe some quinoa and the broccoli was chopped up nicely so you didn't have huge chunks. Also, it wasn't overly sauced so that would make it runny. Overall I give the property four out five stars. Also, the flavor of the whole meal was fine. Good size portion and good value for your money.

The crowd was lighter than usual, but the food was still top-notch. I went with the Buffalo Bird, and my wife ordered The Corbell--both with fries. I couldn't resist trying their special side tonight, the Oakra (yes, that's how they spell it!), and it was worth the laugh and the bite. Service can run a little slow at times, and tonight was one of those nights, but once the food hits the table, it's hot, fresh, and flavorful--hard to complain about that. The restaurant is always clean, spacious, and inviting. The patio was full this evening, so we grabbed a table inside, but we still enjoyed the great atmosphere. We love the live music on Thursday nights that carries through the weekend--it adds to the whole lakeside vibe. And speaking of the lake, the view of the water, boats, and docks makes for some prime people-watching (especially the rich folk pulling up in style). It's especially nice not having to fight the crowds in town--especially during a Bama home game! Overall, Southern Ale House Dockside continues to be one of our favorite local spots for good food, good music, and good times.

It's been a good while since my last visit, back when they were holding court on University Boulevard. In those days, this was a dependable lunch stop -- good, tasty, and worth the drive. Today? Well... bless its heart. I ordered the turkey club wrap with cheese fries. The wrap was fine -- not bad, not memorable -- just kind of sitting there in the middle of the road like it didn't want to pick a lane. Now the cheese fries... that cheese sauce deserves its own investigation. I'm not sure where it originated, but based on the color alone, somebody might want to trace its family tree. It wasn't offensive, just puzzling -- the kind of neon hue that makes you squint a little and ask questions you weren't planning to ask. My wife went with the cheeseburger and fries. Let's just say if Wendy's was filming the old Where's the Beef? commercial again, this burger might have earned a casting call. It was modest. Petite. Economical with its beef. You get the idea. To be fair, the staff was friendly and the service was quick -- no complaints there at all. They were as pleasant as Sunday afternoon sweet tea. But flavor-wise, the meal was average and nothing to write home about. Hooligan's -- or Hoolie's -- I'm not mad at you. I'm just... disappointed. It feels like an old friendship that's drifted apart. Maybe we'll cross paths again and rekindle what once was. But after today's visit, I'm not sure we're running in the same circles anymore.

The Brown Bag Restaurant in Northport has been a staple for good eats for as long as I can…read moreremember. I can't tell you how many times people have recommended it for lunch, yet I never managed to stop in and experience it for myself until today. My work schedule and the Bag's hours always seemed to clash, and since it's a bit off the beaten path, it stayed in the "out of sight, out of mind" category. Now, as I'm approaching full retirement, I finally had the time to swing by and see what all the fuss was about. Upon arrival, the first sign you're in the right place is the parking lot. It's packed, about like a blue tick on a hound dog. Stepping inside, don't expect anything fancy. The interior is old school with faded paint and a no frills setup. Your food is served in Styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. But that's part of the charm. Who needs fine china when you're filling your gizzard with good soul food? The place was full and I managed to grab one of the last open tables under the roof. I then waited for the waitress who was running laps across the dining area, taking orders, refilling drinks, checking out customers, and handling everything in between. If you come anywhere near lunch hour, don't expect Jimmy John's Freaky Fast service. You're here to slow down and enjoy the experience. When I ordered, I went with a catfish fillet, turnip greens, field peas, fried green tomatoes, a side of cornbread, and tartar sauce for the fish. The fried green tomatoes did not make it out with the order, but the waitress was very apologetic and adjusted my bill to a meat and two instead of a meat and three, which I appreciated. Now to the important part, the food. The catfish was hot, crispy, and perfectly cooked, not greasy at all, just honest, well done Southern cooking. The turnip greens and field peas were flavorful and comforting, exactly what you hope for in a place like this. The tartar sauce had a slightly sweet twist that I was not expecting, different from the traditional version, but surprisingly excellent. I will need a few more visits before I can fully put that into words, but it worked. Overall, now I understand the buzz. The Brown Bag delivers exactly what it promises, simple, hearty, well prepared soul food served without pretense. I will definitely be back, and now that retirement is on the horizon, I have got all the time in the world to wait on a good meal, unlike you working folks still rushing through lunch.

***please read last paragraph before making a choice to eat (or not) here!…read more this would hands down be a 5 star review if not more except for the fact that the chicken "spud" that i ordered which came with bacon had a strange taste. the chicken flavor was just odd and it overpowered the ranch flavor and the worst part was the *bacon* seemed like it was on the grill for maybe a minute or two which for bacon is nowhere near enough time to get it done. i eat my bacon without being picky about it- i like it cooked but if it has some fat, it doesn't bother me. however, on a baked potato, bacon should be cooked thoroughly so that it can crumble into bits ("bacon bits") on the potato. well, the bacon tonight was like..... literally so soft and white still that i pulled it off the potato and tried to keep eating. i am not a picky eater but with that and the strange chicken taste, i actually just threw it away. sorry. i hate leaving bad reviews especially for a restaurant that i give props to like this one- it coukd have been a lazy cook or an exception made due to "running out of bacon" at a busy hour... afterall, bacon does take a while to cook... my food showed up at my house like 10 min. after ordering. idk. on to what is great- nay- excellent! the chicken salad croissant is what perfect dreams are made of. this type of sandwich is something that i basically always order when available anywhere so i have had many, many chicken salad sandwiches. dear mccallisters- yours is hands down the best and will be my new go-to comfort food anytime i just literally need something that i love when i don't want to cook and want to avoid "fast food" (always!). i will gladly buy your chicken salad sandwich any and every time i get take out food while i live in this town. your croissant is perfection. i truthfully have never seen so much love put into a croissant before. everything about the sandwich was top notch from chicken salad, mix in flavors, greens and tomato. iced tea- great mac n chz- kid loved it and she is picky. broccoli cheddar soup- yum! rueben sandwich- pretty good!! no complaints. (maybe better served in house though). but still quite good. probably hard to box up a hot sandwich and expect the bread to remain perfect, what can you expect? if you love rueben sandwiches, mcallisters is worth ordering. all authentic flavors! hope that helps!!

The Lost Pizza - Happy Hippy on Cauliflower Crust

If there's anything "lost" about The Lost Pizza Co. - Northport, I haven't found it yet…read more My wife and I make it a point to visit about once a quarter, and it never disappoints. Consistency matters, and this place delivers it every single time. Now, me being me, I don't branch out much. When I find something I like, I stick with it like duct tape on a screen door. Enter: the Happy Hippy with cauliflower crust. Now hold on -- before you start picturing edible cardboard, let me clarify. This cauliflower crust tastes nothing like cardboard. It's actually delicious. And yes, I'm aware that just about anything covered in cheese has a head start in life, but still -- credit where it's due. The crust holds up, the flavors balance well, and I can enjoy every bite without worrying about a late-night visit from our old acquaintances, Acid Reflux and his cousin Heartburn. My innards are at peace, and that's worth mentioning. The name Happy Hippy always makes me smile. I'm about as far from a hippy as you can get, but it's a fine conversation starter when ordering. And when the pizza arrives, I'm happy enough to live up to the name. The atmosphere is part of the charm. The walls are decorated with license plates from everywhere -- California to the Northeast -- mixed in with good old Alabama tags. One California plate in particular caught my eye: a personalized "90210." That zip code is permanently etched into my memory. Back in the day, every high school girl seemed to be glued to the television after an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210. I never watched a single episode myself, but somehow that number is burned into my skull for life. Funny how that works. Add in a few musical instruments hanging around and you've got yourself a laid-back, slightly nostalgic vibe. Then the speakers kick in with 80s and 90s classics, and you know you're in the right place. When "Down on the Corner" or "Old Time Rock & Roll" comes through loud and proud, it just feels right. Good pizza tastes better with good music -- that's just science. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful, and the restaurant is always clean -- which, let's be honest, should be standard everywhere but unfortunately isn't. If you've got small kiddos, there's a game room to keep them occupied while you sit back with a cold Coca-Cola and enjoy your pie in relative peace. All in all, it's good pizza, good music, and good people -- with just enough Southern charm to keep you coming back. We'll see them again next quarter. Some habits are worth keeping.
