Grabbed a couple beef tacos while running errands nearby and they really hit the spot. The tortillas were clearly fresh and the beef had this great char on the outside. They didn't go overboard on the toppings, which let the meat shine. The salsa bar had a ton of options which I always love. The guy at the counter was super helpful and friendly. Quick service too, even though they had a line. Will be adding this place to my regular taco rotation. read more

So I'm never this person, but I've never had this bad of an experience. You barely have any food for your money which isn't the bad part. The service is TERRIBLE. I've had better at McDonald's. We had a coupon through a TCHS fundraiser we were going to use. Key word is WERE. They refused to acknowledge it until something was said over and over. Then our waitress tried claiming we didn't tell her. It was on the table at the end for her to see & we repeatedly said we wanted whatever the coupon was good for. Brought us what we thought it was good for and then they refused to honor it at checkout. Then when you're trying to talk to them and explain how you told the waitress about the coupon multiple times, they ignore you & start speaking to each other. Not to mention while I was eating and waiting we were only checked on once, and I could visibly see the workers standing staring looking me up and down. The experience and atmosphere was just not it. So, let's start with the good: Water with lemon was provided by our helpful server, and the chips and salsa were very good. In terms of the not-so-good: We were offered queso by the host who seated us, but we were not informed as to the cost of the queso, which was more than $4. This probably shouldn't be provided without a clear indication of cost. My SO ordered the two tacos w/ rice and beans with al pastor. We were informed the pastor "only comes in three tacos." That, first, doesn't make any sense, unless you're cooking pre-packaged items (which isn't super great). Second, it meant we had to pay for an extra taco above the price of the two taco combo. If al-pastor isn't allowed for that combo, make a note of that either in the menu or when we order. Finally, I ordered the fish tacos, which were fine, but the menu said ~$11.75 w/ two tacos and rice and beans. However, we were charged $3 additional for my rice and beans, which (according to the menu) is part of the item's cost. Summary: ok food, pretty ok service, but the prices on the menu were not consistent with what we ended up paying (all included, everything was about $9 more expensive than expected, not including tip). If prices fluctuate that much, work with printed paper menus. If they don't, print new menus that reflect correct pricing. I don't mind paying for good food, but I want to know what I'm actually getting. Given all of these problems, we sadly won't be visiting this establishment again. Service from the waiters is generally good. Food is fast and good. Sunday lunch is generally always packed with families.

Ordered chicken tortilla soup and was given refried beans with strips of tortilla on top. Called back to explain the mistake and try to get it taken off the order (as it was completely inedible) and was met with a very defensive front desk hostess on the phone. She proceeded to tell me she DID give me soup. There is no chicken, cilantro, or soup consistency to this. I was reminded again why I stick to the fajita gumbo down the road. read more

Frida's is the best Mexican restaurant in the Tuscaloosa area by far. The guacamole VIP is the best.

Now the best Los Tarascos in town. Unfortunately, the 82 and Skyland ones follow a different menu and their food is bland! 43 Los Tarascos has high quality more authentic tasting food that has actual flavor!! This place has been a family's favorite since my parents moved to Tuscaloosa. There are three Tarascos in Tuscaloosa, and I'd say this is my least favorite of the three... even though the food is on point! He service you receive at this one is very mediocre. You walk in and they act like you're more of a nuisance than a guest. Then you usually have to wait ten minutes before you're served. Great location if you're from the rural-lakeside area of Northport, but me personally I'd drive the extra miles to go to the location on HWY 82 or Skyland. The Skyland location is the newest and I have yet to have had a bad experience with them! Same food but better service. read more

I truly believe there is a difference between customer service and the overall customer experience, and in writing this review, both were awful! The rating of two is only for how great the food is! The food arrived quickly, hot, flavorful, very well seasoned, perfect actually! However, from the moment we walked in, the customer experience was awful! I opened the door, walked in, and the hostess just looked at us. There was no greeting, there was no welcome, just a blank stare. I looked around, and asked, "Are you open?" The hostess replied, "Yep!" and looked at me as if I was bothering her. I then replied, "Ok, two please." She grabbed two menus, and walked off... again, no response. I followed her because that is what I usually do. She took us to a table laid the menus down, and walked away. Again, no feedback... not enjoy your meal. Not, your server will be right with you... absolutely nothing. Moments later, the server shows up. He asked, "What would you like to drink?" I asked, "Do you have a happy hour special?" He said, "I think so." I replied, "Ok, can you tell me what the happy hour is?" His response, "I don't know." Overlooking the menu, I stated, "I'll have a 24oz Miller Lite." The server stated, "I only have 16oz, 22oz and 32oz." Now, on the menu there are several sizes listed. I asked ok, what is the price of a 22oz, again the response is, "I don't know. That menu is not right." I replied, "Can you give me a menu that is right?" Response, "NO!" I then stated, "So, you don't know what the prices are, you don't have what the menu says you have." At this point, I'm extremely frustrated, hungry, aggravated by the lack of customer service/ experience and just wanted something to eat. We ordered, the food came, we left. Later, we found out the restaurant is undergoing a change from Las Tarascos to Fredas. I've been coming to this area for work for the past few months and hit Frida's at least once a week. Foods always good. Their carne asada is delicious. They do a nice job with their Chile rellenos. This is the second time we've had problems with management and service here. The credit card system was down which is no fault of there's. However not telling people when they come in is. I had to leave and go to the bank while my family stayed like hostages until I came back with cash. The second time there was empty tables everywhere but us and 5 other families waited 30 minutes or so before we were seated. I watched waiters, at least 3 goof off in the back room. The food was great but the service left a lot to be desired. I hate going to a restaurant and just feeling uncomfortable and awkward because the waiter hates their life or hates you. We didn't get a smile or any personality at all. What do you want? Ok. Here's your food. Here's the check pay up front. We wanted to order some additional food to go with our fajitas but when you don't have a waiter that is hard. The food is great. The absolute worst service I've ever received and I didn't even dine in!! I sat on hold for 10 minutes to place a Togo order after having to call multiple times in a row to even get someone to pick up the phone! Repeated my order to the little girl 5 times and she still didn't put it to the kitchen right! How hard is Frida's nachos and 2 shrimp & mushroom quesadillas to understand?! I have went to this place hundreds of times and honestly never really had a problem the service is always not the best but last night was beyond horrible me and my sisters went to eat and talk and have fun. First our server was horrible he had barely any communication besides what do you want and is it all together. My sisters ordered a beer pitcher they received it and realized it was not the kind of beer they ordered but they just wanted to let it slide so my other sister ordered a separate single beer that she liked because she didn't favor the pitcher and the server comes back with it and very rudely says if i see you passing this i'm taking it away. We were shocked and let me say we are all of age to drink also it was insane so then our meal was already ruined but as we continued to sit there they 3 servers sat right behind us and started doing silverware and they just stared at us it was horrible he just stared directly at me I felt so uncomfortable and we left we weren't even there for an hour. Placed our order on Waiter but there was no option to order extra chips. I called the restaurant to see if we could get one bag of chips per $4.24 cheese dip. After talking to the 3rd person, they explained that the number of bags were based on the amount of the check, not the number of cheese dips. An order of $30 or more would get 2 bags of chips, but because we only spent $24, we could not get another bag. We spent $9+ on cheese dip and only got one bag of chips! Don't go here! The front desk and to-go workers are extremely rude and disrespectful. And the food is mediocre at best. I recently went in on a Friday night to get some take-out. I requested my food a certain way - nothing overcomplicated, and nothing I wasn't willing to pay extra for. I requested to have my beans and rice placed in the styrofoam cups instead of the aluminum foil containers. It's just easier to scoop out and re-store when finished. The cashier, looking dumbfounded, said that she'd have to confirm it could be done first, which I thought was odd, but was fine with. Before she places my order, she ran my request by the to-go girl, who rolled her eyes at having to do anything extra, but agreed it. When I picked my food up, I noticed the two girls had a smirk on their faces, but ignored them and picked up my food. When I got to my car, I realized that the request was ignored and was packaged like I requested it not to be. The staff didn't even have the decency to tell me. I walk back in and ask why it was prepared that way, and three of the staff all said it was because the order was placed before the people who prepare the to-go orders could be notified of my request, which was a blatant lie because my request was made known before my order was even placed, and was told directly to the to-go girl. No attempt at correcting my order was even made or suggested. I called back in to speak with the manager, Alex, but was told several times that he was "busy" and would have to call me back after 8:30pm. Apparently, his role doubles as a so-called Manager and a server. When I finally spoke to Alex, it was obvious that he could care less about my complaint or about how his staff lied to and treated its customers. This place is a joke. read more
