I happened to be passing through Walnut Creek on my way home, so I decided to stop for some boba. I had never tried Mr. Green Bubble before so I figured I would give them a shot. I ordered a Mango Lychee Green Tea w/ Boba. The drink was prepared pretty quickly shortly after ordering. However, according to the picture in the kiosk menu, the drink was supposed to include lychee toppings. This unfortunately did not come fruition as my drink only contained the boba toppings that I paid extra for. The drink itself was extremely muted in flavor and tasted extremely diluted with only a hint of mango and absolutely no taste of lychee (probably because they forgot to add the toppings). You can either order at the counter or use any of their two self-service kiosks. The shop itself was pretty clean and there are plenty of seating if you decide to dine-in. They offer a uni-sex public bathroom was kept pretty clean when I visited. read more

Decided to give this place another try again as I was in the area. This time, they weren't as busy. Strawberry Matcha Latte: This was a rather delicious drink. The strawberry puree was nice and the amount of pearls you get was plentiful. The ratio of tea, milk and strawberries was also good. And they make the matcha from scratch. The worker was used a small bowl and a pestle/brush to make the matcha green tea for me, which was cool to watch. Overall, I did enjoy the drink. The kids and I have been to Mr. Green Bubble over the years, and they are a big fan! However they took away most of the items that we would normally order, such as honeydew green milk tea (the son's fave from this spot) and almond milk tea. Bummer. We normally order online, so not sure if it was just removed from the ordering platform or it's really been off the menu. The regular milk tea has somewhat a royal / earl grey-esque flavor to it, so I would normally get an oolong milk tea or mango milk tea (I'd get almond, but haven't been on the menu in months) with some kind of jelly topping. I'd also get their taro, and it comes with the pearls. The kids enjoy their Thai tea the best here. When it's really hot, they like their blended drinks and enjoy picking the flavor ice blend/smoothie here. I've tried their matcha- both regular and strawberry, but the matcha flavor was lacking. I'm sure it's there, but my personal preference is super matcha as I have trouble tasting it in normal amounts in drinks. Decent sized shop, good amount of seating. People like to study here and play some of the games they have as well. They've also switched their cups from time to time. One time the cup was rather rigid that at Target, a small piece on the bottom cracked and my drink went everywhere. So embarrassing, but luckily it wasn't much as the cup was almost empty. I think we will come back to try some additional matcha drinks because they had a mango matcha drink we were interested in but they were out of that particular matcha powder. I've tried Mr. Green Bubble a number of times now and my most recent experience was not great. Upon walking in on a Saturday afternoon, it was pretty empty. There was no music playing and a line of 3 people waiting to order at the register. There was only 1 guy working the register and making drinks. Although I could hear a few more guys in the back talking. I tried ordering on the screen but they didn't have what I wanted on there so I stood in line to order. When I got to the front and asked if they had just watermelon juice (because I've seen it on the seasonal menu before). He said yes but charged me for a Watermelon Berry Float - it was $7. When I asked about it he said it was fine and he understood that I wanted juice. I waited for about 10 minutes for my drink as there were a few other drinks in front of mine understandable. I tried my drink in the car and why was it sour??? I'm not sure if the watermelon was bad or if they just add other things in there or maybe there was a miscommunication or something. It looked correct and I feel like it's hard to mess up juice, but I guess not! I was so disappointed, I spent $7 on something I can't even drink. It was too late for me to turn back as I was already on the freeway, so I just decided to take the L. The other times I've been here, I order the Super Fruit Tea. That one is pretty decent. But after my latest experience here, I don't think I'll be coming back. I don't like gambling and I sure as hell don't want to gamble on whether my drinks will be drinkable or not. read more

We used to live in Oakland, and loved going to the location closer to the Lake in the Piedmont area. We love getting the iced tea fruit flavored drinks with fruit popping stars, overall the drinks are delicious. Lately they've come up with some very creative options as specialty drinks. Located in downtown Walnut Creek, right next to Oke Poke, Mr. Green Bubble is in the midst of many other boba places in the area, not to mention, many other options for drinks. Having been here for awhile now, it's probably one of the more recognizable boba places in Walnut Creek downtown as others have tried, just around the corner, but have all faltered and disappeared/changed into different businesses. But Mr. Green Bubble is still here. Why haven't I had a review before? To be honest, in the past my experience with Mr. Green Bubble has always been bad, to the point that I didn't even feel like leaving them a review as I had stopped visiting altogether. However, I started to get back into them again with Too Good To Go, and ordering their late night specials, which for those who are also on Too Good To Go, Mr. Green Bubble has a great lineup for their end of day finds here, so I'd recommend it too. Now to get back on track. The ordering system is all by the kiosk, so you just put in your drinks and then wait for them to make it. One thing that's stayed fairly consistent from before is that they are a bit slow. They were much slower back then, so I guess that's an upside, but they definitely take their time here, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but expect to wait a little bit if they're even a little busy. Pricing wise, it's fine for Walnut Creek downtown, and might even be on the cheaper side when compared to Li Cha or Bober, who are not too far away from them. You definitely get more bang for your buck though since the other two tends to veer into the tiny short cups more with their drinks, and even their large is just a regular. The drinks themselves is what's important, and what's the verdict on it? They're actually decent now. One of the things I didn't like previously with Mr.Green Bubble was how watered down their drinks were. I would've been better off drinking water honestly back then than their supposed "milk" tea. The flavor of the tea are very strong in their basic milk tea. They do use a more floral tea for their basic milk tea, so just be aware it's not going to be a regular milk tea like most places. However, the milk and tea balance are nice, so no complaints here. The boba here is also nicely made. Not quite as QQ as I would like normally from my boba, but certainly manageable and freshly made. Overall, I would come back to Mr.Green Bubble again next time I'm there to pick up some Oke Poke. read more

I've been supporting Mr. Green Bubble for 8+ years solely because of their popcorn chicken. Pre-pandemic, I would come most Fridays after work as a end of week treat. I always get popcorn chicken spicy 5 and a green tea with lychee jelly. It's been a few months since my last visit, but I noticed this time the portion size is noticeably smaller (although understandable since their original portion was massive for a steal of a price!), spicy 5 is no longer dangerously spicy (like tears streaming down my face), and the frying technique has changed (they added garlic?). The spice level and fry were the two main reasons I touted this as my favorite popcorn chicken spot. The chicken was always juicy; now it's a tad dry. And no other boba place I've tried that offers popcorn chicken takes "spicy" as seriously, which I've always appreciated. While the popcorn chicken here is still good/on par with other places, it sadly lacks the pizzazz it once had. If it's any consolation, their drink quality has remained the same (mediocre, but hits the spot). If my next experience with the chicken is similar, I will probably be searching for a new favorite. read more

I couldn't eat it and I was sad :( Go for mild to medium, it's still super spicy. Mochi Pandan waffle comes with TWO waffles to offset the price. Egg puffs are always yummy, I like Matcha the best but have tried Oreo and that is good too. The fresh brewed tea is perfect, lots of flavor without being overly sweet. Like most boba shops you can customize the ice, sweetness, milk, etc. Clean indoor space with some tables and games. Park next door at the parking garage because street parking is hard to find. The mango lychee green tea is the truth! Let's talk about how I got here... Came here for an afternoon catch up with my BFF. There's plenty of parking and a parking garage next door. The location is in the heart of Walnut Creek, where all the delicious restaurants are. When you walk in the environment invokes chillaxing. They have board games too! How cool is that?! You can order at a kiosk or the register. I'll choose register every time because human interaction duh. The person who took our order was patient as we dissected the menu. I ended up ordering the mango blaze smoothie and the popcorn chicken with #2 heat. The popcorn chicken was a tasty snack and they give you a good amount. Now the mango blaze...I wanted to like it so bad. Idk I thought the red liquid was going to be strawberry. It definitely was not. The smoothie was on the salty side. I barely got 2 sips in and decided to get another drink. Next time I need to ask what's in the drinks. I gave the drink back and ordered a mango lychee green tea, talk about a 180 in taste. This Mr. Green Bubble is located in Downtown Walnut Creek. Parking may be a bit difficult here, especially on weeknights and weekends. You can try your luck with street parking or just park at the parking garage nearby. Service was eh - the drinks and food took awhile to come out as well. I ordered the jasmine milk tea with boba, mango smoothie, mochi waffle, and popcorn chicken. The milk tea tasted a bit off - it tasted like some sort of sweet milk with a splash of bitter tea and it was not that sweet. The mango smoothie was a tad better compared to the milk tea - it had a good sweetness to it, but it had this weird tartiness aftertaste to it. The mochi waffle was not as chewy or soft like their other locations - it was bit hard and it had this weird oily aftertaste to it that made my stomach hurt afterwards. We didn't find out until we got there, but *IMPORTANT DURING SIP: they were only doing mobile orders!* So we sat outside, downloaded DoorDash, ordered, and waited about 10-15 mins for our drinks. Once our apps notified us our orders were ready, we put our masks on, made sure no one else was inside at the same time as us, and got our drinks and straws. My friend got an Oreo milk tea with boba and I got my usual rose milk tea with aloe and boba. I believe my order was a normal price for boba at either $6 or $6.50. I didn't have any options on DoorDash to change the sweetness or ice measurements, however my drink was still made perfectly! (update: you can of course change the sweetness/ice in the comments section on DoorDash! that went right over my head lol). Even though I didn't think to add it in the comments it was the right amount of aloe, boba, and ice. Thank you to the lady with the super long ponytail for making it so, and for being so nice! When you walk in, you'll be confused - did you just step back 10, 20, 30, 40 years back to ... high school? EVERYONE IN HERE WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL. It was a fun throw back for a few minutes for where I used to hang out with friends after high school classes on a Friday. But I mean ... very much so a blast from the past. When you walk in, order is CONFUSING. There are little kiosk screen you can order from (and can pay with card). But they're hard to find, and if you try to line up where drinks are being picked up the staff will just ignore you instead of asking if you need anything. My drink was basically slightly flavored water but overcooked Boba. I had actually gotten an iced Oolong Peach tea, which I have ordered at other places before and the drink at the other places had been delicious! I've never been a big boba drinker -- until I discovered a nearby boba place. That place ran out of boba pearls when I stopped by today and my husband didn't want to wait the hour it would take for them to finish a fresh batch, so we instead walked over to Mr. Green Bubble. This place has a much younger clientele in general than the other one. The price for drinks is cheaper, and they serve some delicious smelling quick foods, so I can see why. We ordered the Okinawa brown sugar black tea latte with boba & the taro milk with boba. These are my go-to drinks at the other place. The base price was just under $5 each. But the default "milk" is non-dairy creamer. For real milk (oat, cow, or soy), it's an extra 50 cents. Since I mostly only drink boba from the other place, that's my frame of reference. I love that boba. Now, the drinks from Mr. Green aren't "bad." But they aren't particularly "good" either, and after just 1 sip of both drinks, I opted not to drink any more. First, I ordered whole milk and they gave me oat milk instead. I just happened to be looking that way and saw it, so I told them and they kindly remade my drink. Second, I ordered taro milk with 0% sweetness and it was way sweeter than my husband's brown sugar at 50% sweetness. So i suspect they made that wrong as well. But the worst of it was the flavor and texture overall. The boba pearls, which are perfectly soft and chewy and freshly made in small batches at the other place, were hard and rubbery here. Like they'd been sitting in the fridge for too long. The brown sugar tea tasted ok, just very watered down. There wasn't even much hint of brown sugar. The taro milk, also watered down, had an artificial flavor that clearly came from a powder and was off-putting in comparison to the freshly pureed taro offered at the other place. I was so disappointed by the drinks because I don't buy boba often so was looking forward to them. These drinks are cheaper in comparison to other places, but it's very clear why once you taste the difference. I would much rather pay a couple of extra bucks for better quality ingredients. If I'm going to ingest all those calories, it better taste delicious enough to be worth it. Such was not the case here. I have always wondered if there was any big difference in the boba drinks offered by all these different boba places around WC. Now I know the answer is emphatically yes.
