The waitress did not speak much English so I asked for what a woman at another table was eating, not knowing what it would be. It was the special which came with soup, entree and drink for $15. The chicken noodle soup was huge and delicious. I was unfamiliar with the spices on the beef but it was so tender and enoyable. Huge mound of citrus hinted rice and a side of beans. I was stuffed!! The place was clean; the service very nice. I really enjoyed myself. .

The ceviche was good overall, fresh and enjoyable, but a few bites were noticeably too salty. The corn was a nice touch and added some balance to the dish. The fried rice was decent but leaned a little bland and could've used more spice or depth to really stand out. Overall, I'd come back and try other dishes. We were able to snag a parking spot on the busy main street and walked over to the corner restaurant. Between the sidewalk tables and the inside dining room, the place was completely packed. We walked inside to check in with the hostess. She let us know that they still needed a bit more time on our table, but that we could wait at their small bar. The dining area was modern and more minimalist, except for the giant imitation tree in the center, which gave the place more charm. While the place was inviting, it was also extremely loud, so instead, we asked to have a table outdoors. That request turned out to be the right move, as it was much more peaceful on the street. As more and more time went on, we were very confused about where our friends were. It turned out that they had driven to the restaurant's Nutley location instead. Thankfully, that was not too far away, and our fantastic server, Leo, distracted us with pleasurable conversation and rich, robust coffee. Once the others finally arrived and we were able to order food, I went with the "Power Bowl" brunch special. The plate of healthier items included scrambled egg whites, feta, quinoa, spinach, pickled red onions, lox, and sweet potatoes. The smoked salmon and the cheese both added some mild salt and extra flavor to what was already a delicious meal. We really enjoyed our brunch at the Sonoma Bistro...in Rutherford, and I would love to go back to try some of their interesting cocktails and sweet pastries.

Upon arrival at dinner time, I was seated and attended. It was only one other pair in the restaurant (next to the bar) area. The place was pretty peaceful and had low music. The steak was a perfect medium well strip. It cut through like butter. I loved the texture. The mashed potatoes were so tasty and plentiful; it was topped with two baked home-made potato chips. The broccoli had minced garlic, which is not mentioned in the menu but, which transformed it from regular steamed broccoli to a tasty side. I will definitely be used that in my future recipes. I can't wait to return to this hotel and to this restaurant. I'm sure you can come have a bite even if you aren't staying at their equally as wonderful Renaissance Meadowlands Hotel.

The staff was exceptional, polite, attentive, and very accommodating throughout our meal. A few things to keep in mind if you choose to dine outdoors: since you're eating in a garden, you may encounter a few ants or mosquitoes. It wasn't overwhelming, but it's something to expect. Also, the portion sizes are on the smaller side. As for the food, I thought it was good, but I didn't love it, especially considering the price. We ordered the crab cake, burger, crème brûlée, and venison. The crab cake and crème brûlée were both beautifully presented and delicious. However, the burger was undercooked, and my date found the venison to be quite dry. Overall, this is a wonderful spot for the ambiance and experience. The setting is romantic, peaceful, and unlike many other restaurants. While I personally didn't find the food memorable enough to justify the cost, I'd still recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful evening in a truly magical garden setting.
