Avoid This Shop - Total Waste of Money and Five Months of Headaches. Do NOT waste your money or time at this place. Back in October, I dropped off my Chauvet DJ GigBAR lighting system for a simple power supply repair. What should have been a quick fix turned into five months of nonstop runaround. They kept giving excuses: "ordering the wrong parts," "just found out about this," same BS every single time I called. Zero progress, zero updates unless I chased them down. When I finally had enough and demanded my equipment back along with a refund, the owner himself got on the phone and told me he "doesn't have time to listen to whining and complaints." Real professional. He only refunded the rush fee out of the full upfront payment I made--because apparently he "invested time." Meanwhile, my GigBAR sat there collecting dust for months, unusable for gigs, while I lost bookings and had to scramble with backups. The whole team comes off as incompetent and straight-up rude. No accountability, no communication, no respect for customers' time or money. If you're in San Antonio and need lighting or AV gear repaired, go literally anywhere else. These guys don't fix equipment--they hold it hostage and disrespect you while doing it. Save yourself the headache and the cash. 0 stars if Yelp allowed it. read more

Words can't describe how poor of an experience this was. I took my amp stack to this business for a standard repair. In all, it took half a year (about 6 months) for this business to tell me they couldn't fix my problem, returning my amp in a state that was worse than how I gave it to them (it is now unplayable). The work done and management can be best described as negligent, incompetent, and disappointing. I paid $80 for the diagnostic fee, and it took about a month and a half for them to actually begin working on the amp. They eventually returned it to me and I payed $90 for the labor. When I took it home, it was clear that the problem was in fact not fixed. After returning it so that they could fix it under their 90-day warranty, I waited another few months. Eventually, they told me that they couldn't fix it and had to order a new amp. When it arrived, the problem STILL persisted. I finally asked for a refund. Ultimately, my patience and kindness was rewarded with disappointment and frustration. Communication was extremely poor. I've consistently been the person that's had to reach out or go to the location to find some kind of update or resolution. At times, their line would be down, or the phone would simply keep ringing. Texts would be ignored. They would often be vague and distant. The owner was extremely rude and dismissive. While barely being involved in the process, he had the audacity to antagonize me when I brought up the possibility of a refund. He suggested that I file a complaint to the BBB and left the room. The only saving grace is that ownership is being transferred to his son, who was more reasonable and respectful. He gave me a refund, but it doesn't make up for the time and opportunities wasted. My band's progress has been significantly delayed due to this business' negligence and failure to provide a transparent and reliable service. If your livelihood depends on music, avoid this place at all costs. A complete waste of time and money. read more

I dropped off a piece of equipment and then didn't receive any communication for several months. Then when I did finally hear from them, they quoted me an unreasonably high repair fee which I refused. So ultimately, I ended up going to the store and just retrieving my gear from them in the same faulty condition that I first brought it to them in. They didn't fix my gear and they kept their non-refundable "diagnostic fee" ..Waste of time, waste of money. I wouldn't recommend using this business. read more

They managed my expectations from the beginning. Building inside and out doesn't look great but the staff is extremely polite and professional. Price was fair and reasonable. I brought in my fender Princeton chorus amp. They did a very thorough testing before and after the repair and diagnosis. Mr. E's is a great instrument shop. Fully accredited by Fender and others. I've taken my silver face twin reverb amp to fix the reverb over a year ago and it sounds perfect. They fixed the volume pot and setup my Gretsch Jet. Setup my Jackson Dinky and routed my Mustang for a humbucker in the bridge and setup. All of them came back just as I wanted them. They're my place to go. They do a lot more for a lot more instruments. If you need your gear worked on choose a great local, non-big box, place. Mr. E's. read more

I had an old SWR bass combo that was running rough, so I put it in storage for a while. I booked a last minute gig for later in the week, and needed a smaller amp for the smaller room. When I took it out of storage, it was kinda gross, with spiderwebs and oxidation everywhere. When I took it in, I was offered a rush job to get it by the end of the week. I didn't think that was very likely to have that much work done that quickly, but I gave them a shot anyway. In about three hours, I was invited to come pick it up. The amp looked and sounded like it was brand new. So if you opt for the rush job, I can vouch its worth the upcharge. read more

I dropped off an Ampeg bass cab in June of 2023, no updates whatsoever, I call them late August yes the pods need to be replaced we have ordered them. No communication, I call them mid October, we are waiting on the pods. It Mid November now, I'm just going to pick it up. My son had to to buy another amp to continue gigging. They broke my guitar mic preamp even further. It had a crackling sound in the buttons and we thought they might just make an easy fix. They supposed to give us an estimate before repairing it but they did repair it without asking me! They changed parts in it and destroyed the phase in button from the transducer. Furthermore they told my wife that she broke the button. This is ridiculous! After weeks of waiting they destroyed the item, the sound... NEVER again! @owner, you took my $54, you broke my item without asking me and you accuse my wife who spent hours to get to you. OUTSTANDING!!!!! THEE, place for ANY repair, if you're anywhere near San Antonio, TX and even if you're not, it's definitely worth the trip. From the diagnosis to the repair, they go out of their way to keep you involved with an extremely professional and knowledgeable approach, yet incredibly personable. Your vintage equipment is cared for, as you would want it cared for and returned better than when it was new, all those years ago. I never write reviews but in this specific case, Mr. E's Electronics merits great praise and they earn it by their superlative caring personal demeanor and electronical expertise. If anyone were to ever write a review saying otherwise, I'm guessing they have more issues in life than just broken gear. Again...OUTSTANDING...a one-of shop, in todays' climate of cookie-cutter, "can't help you with that", bad attitude sea of musical instrument & electronic gear repair. About a month ago, I ordered a brand new Casio digital piano from Amazon. Unfortunately, when the piano arrived five of the keys in the lower end were broken. The sensors still worked because the keys would play, but they did not have the proper "springiness" and made a loud clicking sound when pressed. I called the Casio hotline and they referred me to Mr. E as a licensed warranty repair location. I arrived at Mr. E's around 3:30 in the afternoon and was greeting by a friendly lady who took down my warranty info. Mr. E himself came out and helped me unload the piano from my car and then I went home. At 6:00 that evening I received a phone call from Mr. E saying that my piano had already been repaired. Luckily, it was a simple matter of dislodged key-weights (he said the piano must have been dropped several feet during shipping). While on the phone, Mr. E even offered to deliver the piano to my place that evening because he was going to be in the area for some other repair business. I doubt my extraordinary 3 hour turn around time is typical for repair jobs, especially if it requires ordering parts, so don't go expecting that. I recently sent a tc electronic harmony m harmonizer to authorized service Mr. E.'s electronics in San Antonio Tx. along with a forty dollar diagnostic fee. Three months and 15 phone calls later, the only thing that I have received were excuses, blame to the factory for not providing parts, promises that "It's on the bench now." and general smoke screen. I was repeatedly asked in my latter calls, "What's wrong with it?", even though I had given a written description and the defect was prominent. I was finally told that they could not find anything wrong with the unit and I was asked to pay return postage to retrieve the unit. I lost my temper and they agreed to pay for the return. Brought my Fender Supersonic 22 here after a power surge at my local church left it without sound. They had it out within two weeks and it was playing like new again! I felt they could have been a little better with communicating with me as to what the estimation would be and what they would be doing to fix it. The final price of the repair was also not very clear as I was quoted one price on the phone, but was charged more than I was expecting once I arrived, but overall it was a reasonable price I believe and even with the lack of communication I can't argue with the quality of their work and the final product! I don't like the way they do business! I took a studio monitor with a blown driver in to see if I could get it replaced. They are a mackie dealer so I figured this would be a good place to take it. The guy said they would call in a couple of days and let me know. I didn't hear from them for over a week. When I called they said it usually take a couple of weeks. When they finally did call they said the repair would be $150. I told them no thanks, I had already ordered some new monitors and I would just go pick up the damaged one to sell for parts. I was aware my $35 fee for the diagnostic would be forfeited. At this point they tell me they already did the repair. They rebuilt the driver knowing mackie doesn't make the parts for that model anymore and didn't bother to call me to ask if that is what I wanted!!!! I didn't want a rebuilt driver I just wanted a replacement part! The manager cut the repair to 75 plus tax not including my initial deposit. I ended up paying 115 to get it fixed when a used one goes for about 180, and now I have two sets of monitors. Just know these guys will fix your stuff before giving you an estimate and probably overcharge you. I won't be going back there!!! There are surely business that are more forthright. read more

I brought a couple of Vox amps in since they were recommended to me by Korg as an authorized service center. Three weeks went by. I called to see what the status was and was told my gear was next to be serviced. The following week I was finally called and told the work on my AC10 was not covered under warranty after all as it was power tube issues, and they had fixed a few pots and connections in my AC50. $166 is what it ended up costing me. I paid and just wanted to get outa there. I get home though, and NEITHER amp made it 10 minutes before the old issues were right back! They didn't fix anything at all! I tried calling several times to get something done about it, but got nothing but ringing and the screeching sound of dial up? I had to go out of town for a few day, but tried calling about a week later, again, with no success. I've given up on these folks. I don't know what happened. If this was a fluke experience or what, but it was the worst experience I've ever had with simple amp repair. I would never send a friend here. I'm out $166 and still have no working amp. read more

I am a professional musician and Mr. E's is an authorized repair center for a piece of equipment I own and I had them replace an input volume pot at a cost of $95.81. After the unit was reinstalled in my rig I noticed that it had constant output noise/hissand the signal was distorted. I realized that debating a defective repair with Mr E's was pointles so I decided to return the unit to the manufacturer for repair. The manufacturer ended up replacing the same component but they also updated the LCD display with a newer version at no additional charge. Total cost (including shipping) was $85.00 - draw your own conclusions, but it's fairly obvious that Mr E's botched the rpair - and I will not be going back to Mr E's for any future repairs. read more
