My 8 month old tv had a sensor issue. After troubleshooting with Samsung for over an hour they reluctantly agreed to send a technician since I was still within warranty. It was late Friday so I wasn't expecting to hear anything until Monday. Nope! PJ called me the next morning, I realized that he's about 2.5 hours away but he said he'd be in town the following Friday. I explained what was happen and he diagnosed over the phone and ordered the part he needed. Sure enough PJ showed up on time and fixed the issue promptly. Took him about 30 mins from start to finish. I lived in Los Angeles for many years. I had a lot of stereo equipment serviced there with some good and some less than good experiences. In all cases as a rule all service outlets charged a hefty fee to even look at my piece of equipment. And the turn-around-time was always many weeks. Since I moved back to my home state of Texas, I'm living now in San Antonio with my relatively high-end audio equipment. After a bad weather electrical storm my main 9 channel, Yamaha Aventage, 180 Watt per channel, receiver wouldn't turn on at all. Just black, no sound. I had a hunch it's main board was fried. I took it and an older 15" subwoofer which was now making scratchy noises to Sound Idea and spoke with Gilbert there. Never been there before but the guy on the phone, Gilbert seemed to know what he was talking about even trying to give me free advice over the phone. Mind you that I know for a fact that if were to go to any service outlet in LA, as a rule the clueless person working the front counter would write up a ticket, taking dictation from me as to what the problem was in my opinion, charge me $75 and up, and tell me they'd call me with a diagnosis in a few weeks. When you'd pick up the unit after diagnosis/repair one of three things would happen: 1.) They'd tell me they couldn't repair it, while keeping the up front diagnostic deposit 2.) They would have found an actual problem which they did repair and would charge me the highest fee they could get away with regardless of how much time it took or the cost of the replacement parts or 3.) They'd tell me all the things that were "wrong" even if there had been nothing wrong with it at all other than the need to reset some circuit breakers which took 5 minutes of secret code to complete without even removing the case. And then they'd charge me the highest fee they could get away with. In sharp contrast, to my shock, here's what happened with Gilbert and Sound Idea: First Gilbert took the sub back to the work room, never wasting time to write up a ticket, came back in less than ten minutes and said it was't the speaker but the amplifier board was bad and it probably couldn't be repaired or even if parts were available they wouldn't pencil out to be worth it for an older subwoofer. No charge for the diagnosis, the advice and no wait! Next he took the very heavy high-end but non-responsive receiver back to the work room, no ticket written up. He returned again in about 10 minutes and put the receiver back on the counter. He said, "It's working." I said, what did you do? He said, "I reset it with a series of codes." Then I said, "Wow! Thank you! How much do I owe you?" Gilbert said, "Eh.....$XX." Such a modest fee for honest advice with no wait was highly worth it. I practically fainted! No ticket, no eight week wait, no lying or deception and no exorbitant charge. No kidding! You need to go to these guys before anybody else. Talk about honest quality service. They said it's an old German family owned business. It's located in a small heavily-worn old building. You can tell it's been there for more than the "approximately 50 years or more" they told me that they've been there at that location. I could tell by the long conversation I had with Gilbert and another owner P.J. that these folks really know what they're talking about and that they/re so honest. They did say that they're so busy making repairs that their turn around time for more serious work than mine might take eight weeks to repair. I had a pair of Klipsch hereseys sitting in my storage for about 6 years with blown bass on both an turn. They took about 8 months because they needed to get reconed. They actually sound better than new. Well I'm writing this review while listening to them right now 4 years after coming out of the shop an they sound better an better the more I play them. Absolutely do not use. My repairman was PJ with Stacy the secretary. Samsung called this company to do a repair on my 4K TV, after 2 days he dented the screen with a tool, exclaimed "oh s***" and took a picture of it promptly rushing out of our house. Instead of taking the blame he tried to say it was already there and we "probably didn't see it because there were finger prints." The dent is huge and can't be covered with figerprints. After he left he quickly called Samsung to tell them to void our warranty and we dented it. As we took pictures before the repair started and one person saw him scratch the TV we will be calling put lawyer and taking them to court. read more

I called here asking for a quote to replace four graphic EQ sliders that are broken on an Ampeg amp. The receptionist didn't even know what an Ampeg amplifier is. They said they wouldn't let me know how much to fix those, but if I wanted to come in and pay them $35 they would then give me a quote to fix it. What a joke. I'll never do business here. Repair shops have standard rates for replacing parts and should be able to give me some estimate or rate without trying to take my money. There are other shops in town. read more

I was able to pick it up about 1 month and two weeks later. My initial inspection made me ask, did you guys clean the exterior on this? I was told it was but that it looked like that because the exterior was old and what I was seeing was the paint coming off. The speaker wire plugs looked like they had dirt in them. He said that was residue that could not come off. He instructed me to move the nobs back and forth to work the lubricant/cleaner on the knobs. I paid the remaining balance which was about $100. I felt almost like I overpaid. When I got home I was able to power it on. It worked. I ended up cleaning the exterior myself along with the dirt around the plugs with no issues. Would I recommend them yes and no. I felt they did a good job repairing it but not cleaning it. The turn around time was horrible but they did tell me it would take that long because of all the work they read more

Yeah i took in a JBL PRX715 and paid for a diagnostic. Fine. It took approx. 4-5 weeks, for a DIAGNOSTIC. Not sure what else could be happening there because when i went it was slow and quiet... Anywho, fine, they said it would take a while for a diagnostic. They finally called and gave me the problem and the cost to fix. It WAS a reasonable cost. I gave the go ahead and a week or so later it was fixed. Brought it back to work and a couple of months pass and the same speaker fails. SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. My other JBL same model has been going STRONG years after an initial repair by Mr. E's. Going back to them with this broken one. SHRUG read more

I took our Samsung TV because of a very slow start up problem. After calling some other convenient locations for me, I decided to go with company Samsung recommended. Other companies quoted a long period of time for estimate and probable repair because they would have to order the parts, The Sound Idea diagnosed problem on the spot and fixed it in less than 30 minutes. Great service, seem other who had to wait a long time, in my case the wait was with Samsung. It was like a trip to the dentist getting them to honor their warranty on my 65 4k TV which was only 6 months old and developed a solid line down the right side of the screen, once they issued a ticket I received a call from a PJ I believe who told me he would be ordering the screen and it should be here in 3 days. It arrived as scheduled and he was out the next day to install the new Screen, it was fast professional service and I now have my new TV working 100%. Can't address other products they service, but if you have a problem with a Samsung TV I highly recommend you tell Samsung you want your service provided by them. read more

if you are going to buy a tv do not buy a samsung tv in San Antonio because sound idea is the only company in san antonio that samsung uses to repair their tv or inspect your tv if there is a problem with it i turned on my tv and noticed there was some lines inside the tv i also noticed that there was a very tiny spot inside the tv i called samsung and told them that there was a problem with my tv they said they would send some one out to take a look at my tv klaus peter came out to my home in five minutes he was out accused me of damaging my tv and told me to trow it in the trash because it was no good he took some pictures of the tv and the serial number he could no get to the back of the tv because it was between two large book cases i helped him move it he did not even help me put it back he just said that's it and he will call samsung and tell them his opinion in five minutes he called me back from his phone and told me that samsung would not fix my tv because i had damaged it and because of that i void my warranty this gentleman did not stay in my home for five minutes just accused me of damaging my 2400 dollar tv which i purchased six months ago based on the placed where he said i hit the tv that could not be possible because the tv was mounted between two large book cases for over six months he himself could not even get to the side of the tv if he tried i called samsung on four occasion to explain my case they lied and promised me that they would send a second company to reinspect my tv but on each occasion they opened a new service ticket it was the same company on the service ticket sound idea this happened three times after speaking to a supervisor he finally told me that sound idea is the only company that samsung uses in san antonio and they go by what they say so you do not have any other service company to reinspect your product if its a samsung product so please be wary when you buy a samsung tv because if there is a problem you are at sound idea mercy on a scale of one to five i would give them a two just because of the way the technician acted and accused me of doing something i did not do tv sometime have defect this is one time it did so now i must throw this 82 inch garbage in the trash only after six months thats what their techinican said . read more
