Sweet and sour base

Food is pretty good! Quick service. Food area was clean and stocked well. Food tasted fresh. I would get a vase a teeny bit less spicy just so I could eat it faster though

Oil splash mala hotpot. Ingredients included lotus root, tofu, bean curd, quail eggs, beef aorta, tripe, potato

Still one of my favorite places to eat in St. Louis!!! They recently added new soup bases (spicy and non-spicy), so I wanted to update my review. My new go-to is the spicy dry mix (#10), which is not as spicy, deeply peanut-y, garlicky, and savory. Highly recommend if you love garlic!

Summary: Good in theory, but could be executed better. Our dry hotpot had undercooked seafood. The brightly lit restaurant was packed with many small tables that were set up with hotpot warming trays with small candles. On a Saturday night, they were pretty packed. At Movoc, you grab your ingredients yourself, choose the type of cooking method/seasoning, and pay by weight. Most of the ingredients were labeled, but some were not, which was fine with me as an adventurous eater, but could be scary for others. I noticed my first concern at the ingredient station as people were swapping the tongs and the juice from items like intestines (which I actually find delicious) or raw seafood were being mixed into other ingredients. It should be okay since everything will be cooked, but I had concerns for people who have allergies or dietary restrictions. The restaurant would benefit from tongs that are labeled to be used specifically for certain types of ingredients. After adding our ingredients into a bowl, it was weighed and we chose the type of seasoning/broth. We chose one to be "spicy flavor soup" and the other to be a "spicy dry mix". The hot soup version was very flavorful and delicious, however, the dry pot had good flavor but was lacking spice and the ingredients were undercooked. This was concerning since we had put a lot of seafood in that pot and I could see that the scallop and fish weren't cooked. We thought we could cook it at the table over the candle after mixing it in, but it didn't work, so we packed it up to reheat it at home. We considered asking the staff to reheat it for us, but it was so hard to get the their attention since they were super busy and felt bad holding up a table for longer than necessary as the restaurant was full and there was no waiting area. Although in the end the food was okay, I was disappointed by the undercooked seafood and lack of spice in the drypot especially for paying $70+.

This place is delicious! It is a build your own hotpot place where everything is weighed by the pound. You put in what you want in your bowl and they make it for you in the back. The prices here are reasonable and there is plenty of seating inside. Rice is free but if you want noodles you have to add it to your bowl. The only downside to the place is that there can be a language barrier with a couple of the staff members but it was not a problem for me at all. I will be back the next time I am in the St. Louis area!

Movoc Hot Pot on the Delmar Loop is a fantastic fast-casual spot, especially if you appreciate a highly organized dining experience. The setup is straightforward and efficient: you grab a basket, select your own fresh proteins and veggies from a massive refrigerated wall, weigh it to pay by the pound, and choose your broth. Then, the kitchen takes over and cooks it all up for you. The strict hygiene standards here are immediately noticeable. The self-serve ingredient station is kept immaculate, with everything safely chilled and promptly restocked--which makes the whole operation feel very well-managed. Because you build the bowl yourself, it's also incredibly easy to closely track exactly what goes into your meal and filter out any specific ingredients you're trying to avoid. The broths are deeply flavorful, and the complimentary rice and water station is a great bonus. A brilliantly run, deliciously fresh spot!

I came in right at lunch rush. It's super bright and modern inside. You get in line and fill up the bowl with toppings and they will go cook it for you and bring it out. The price is $16.99/lbs... which isn't cheap if you put too much in the bowl. There's free rice to eat with your order. I think the flavor could be better but I love the concept.

This was my first time at the restaurant. It is small and cozy. I was with 3 girlfriends. We were given instructions how to prep your bowl before it was cooked. There were so many meats, and veggies to choose from, Ostrich Eggs, if that is your thing. Only caveat for us, there were labels which were hard to understand or writing was very light. After we chose all items and type of noodles, the bowl was weighed and you pay accordingly. We were asked what type of broth, which could be hot to mild. I chose mild and added some sauces to it. Our table was prepped with a hot pot and sterno food warmers. The bowls came out piping hot. The meal was delicious and the meats were all cooked perfectly. It was a big portion for us and we were given take home bowls to enjoy for later. The service was great and everyone was so patient with us while in line. This is a fun place to bring friends or family. This was during the week after lunch, not very busy. The parking will probably be more of a problem during the weekend. I will definitely will be back. ,

I saw this place while driving through in the loop during the opening day and the line was super packed therefore I waited until now to try it out. Parking spots varies but we were lucky to secure a spot right in front of the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. There were quite a variety of options of choice for ingredients for the hotpot of meats, vegetables, seafood etc. After picking the ingredients along with the dry noodles then you weight the selection you had. The weight of the selection has to be at least 0.9 pounds or more. Then you picked a broth and paid for your food choice. We each picked the spicy broth with our own different choices of ingredients. Be warn that the spicy broth was all spice. The taste seems to be from lots of Sichuan peppers taste which overpowering the food. My next trip i would pick a different broth to try eve though i liked spicy a lot i do want more flavors than just the Sichuan pepper taste.

Very interesting concept of a fast service but sit down restaurant. You pick the ingredients, they charge by weight of what you picked, and they cook and deliver to your table. Lots of authentic ingredients that I really like. Great experience.

I got to check out Movoc during the Grand opening week! My friends and I went around 5:00pm on a Wednesday when it was starting to get busy. There weren't a lot of seats already so we had one grab the seats as soon as it opened. Since it is opening week, I didnt want to give them such a low score, so I gave them 4 stars. There wasn't a lot of Vegetable options and I didn't know what the meats were because there are no labels. Flavors were just not for me, but y'all might like it! Friendly service! My advice to the customers: If you're done eating, please be considerate of the people standing and waiting for a table to eat. Place is small with not that many tables. Soup is difficult to eat standing, not that they will allow it, but just think of others while there.

Chongqing Spicy broth

Has the very authentic spicy mala flavors that I've been craving for months. Super versatile food in which you can decide on how you want to eat. You get to decide on your spice levels as well as your portions. Very similar to froyo where you pick your ingredients. Came the first week of launch and it was packed! Tons of people getting their spicy fix in, and the staff were super nice and helped us out. Everything looked well organized too, busy area but small. Definitely would recommend to stop by and get some good Chinese food! If you like it spicy, the Chongqing Spicy will give you a run!

Malatang personal hot pot with mushroom soup broth

It was very fun to choose the ingredients and create my own personal hot pot. You can choose to skip the broth and do a sort of stir fry option instead. There are spicy and non spicy broths to choose from but the spicy ones are more traditional for Malatang (personal hot pot). A few types of noodles to choose from. Meats like beef, pork belly, fish, even frog legs and abalone. Veggies like bok choy, cabbage, bean sprouts. Unlimited rice if you eat in. It was a little pricey with a 1lb minimum at 15+ per person, and it isn't unlimited like the group hot pot places. It's more than enough food though, you won't be hungry for seconds. Overall I would highly highly recommend this experience.

Saw this place while walking Delmar Loop. Lots of ingredients to customize your own hot pot. Service was really fast for how busy it was. But the flavors were delicious. It was the perfect spicy level but not overpowering. I would highly recommend this place. Every bowl will never be the same due to the many options of ingredient.

The mess I was making trying to eat crab out of the bowl.

Honestly, the 2 soups I tried the other night are still on my mind and I am trying to figure out how to have them again! How can I re-create them? How can I purchase a gallon of them? I cannot wait for the next pop up! When we went to The Vandy the other night for some cocktails, we knew that Soul Soup would be on the scene serving up 2 different soups for us to try (The High Life and Thai Me Up). The menu was posted on Angie's Insta page a few days in advance of the pop up (see photo of the menu) and I just knew we had to try them both! When we arrived and placed our cocktail orders, we also asked for a bowl of each of the soups to try and when they were brought out the table, they were piping hot and smelled so good! I was happy to know that rather than adding in the bacon to the High Life, they could serve it on the side so that my dining partner could enjoy the bacon while I just wanted to enjoy the soup with the pretzel bites no bacon! Two bowls of soup was a perfect amount for the 2 of us to share and when we were finished, Angie came out of the kitchen to meet some of the customers - it was so nice to meet Angie and she is seriously so friendly! I will keep my eyes peeled to her Insta to see when and where she will be next and you should too! It's soup season and if you want some of the best soup in STL, this is the place to find!

When I saw their post about the "cold weather comforts," I knew I had to go. We each did the pre fixe dinner- this included a salad, entree and dessert. Each. The chicken pot pie soup was not included, but was worth it. This soup--one of the best things I have ever eaten. I was speechless eating it. I had to text multiple people mid soup to tell them about it. The chicken was flavorful, and huge pieces. The soup itself was so delicious. It felt like a warm hug. I ordered the cottage pie. So delicious and hearty. The braised short rib was so tender. The potatoes were perfectly whipped. I cannot wait for the leftovers. My friend ordered the lasagna. The lamb was incredible. So hearty, and didn't feel heavy like some lasagnas can be. The serving size was huge. We will also be eating this tomorrow! Now the apple crisp. We were full by course two, but we had to dig in. It was fresh out of the oven. The vanilla bean whipped cream was so fresh and balanced out the crisp. The apples were perfectly jammy and the cinnamon was so intense but perfect. This made me feel like I was sitting in my grandma's dining room eating dessert after Sunday dinner. If you see any of these items appear on their menu, run-- and I will see you there!
