A very very nice cafe tucked away in the inner streets by Olympic Village. Everything about it feels super authentic and the coffee definitely confirmed that vibe. It's also connected with Fife bakery so there are plenty of delicious pastries to try as well! The barista there was very nice and took the time to casually chat with customers whenever there was a lull, and the general atmosphere felt very calming. The only concern is how small the place is. Although I managed to get a seat, the place was almost entirely full and felt a little crowded with just around 5-10 people. But the seats are cute and also feature hanging hooks for jackets and bags which I loved very much!! Makes everything so much more convenient. I've only bought their coffee online. It's the best coffee roaster I've found in Vancouver and in fact, BC. Natural Carbpnic and Honey Carbonic are both killer. It takes me a few minutes each morning to get past just sniffing the aroma of the beans. I make pour over and it's an absolute delight making it. I use a Smeg burr grinder and I use the coarsest setting for Natural Carbonic and 2 levels finer for Honey Carbonic. Results are great. The other beans are good too. But I'm so into Natural Carbonic and Honey Carbonic. read more

As I regularly visit Fife Bakery which also houses Moving Coffee, it has quickly become one of my favourite spots to hang out in and enjoy a cup of coffee. Moving Coffee is run by the cheerful couple of Edmond and his wife Shirley, who welcome me every time I come to visit and chat. I learn so much just from watching the brewing process at the front of the house, as well as talking with Edmond, the Q-grader level barista who roasts the beans in the back. I still enjoy their signature Espresso roasts of Phantom or Opera as a Latté after being introduced to it by them on my first visit, but I usually let them surprise me with any new roasts that get brought in throughout the year. As a microroastery, they don't offer sweetener or cream/milk on the side as they want you to savor the original tasting notes of the coffee itself. If you want grass-fed organic milk or the alternative oatmilk in your coffee, a latté is your only option. That also means no americanos, just drip coffee or pour over. There are occasionally fact cards available with your espresso that go into detail about each roast's journey from bean to cup, as they source beans from various farms in coffee growing regions. It's also unique that they write tasting notes on the menu, which Edmond discovers during cupping sessions for the beans. So, it serves as a fun personal challenge to discover these delicate notes of citrus, jasmine, pomegranate or chocolate to name a few, when you're the customer drinking the coffee. In summer months, Shirley may also whip up Cascara sodas or Elderflower Sodas for a limited time which are also a treat! If you are an advanced coffee drinker and are used to paying more for your coffee experience, Moving Coffee has got your back with the highly sought-after Gesha Varietal coffee beans, which are available as a drink option on their menu at varying times of the year. It sells out quite fast with specialty coffee culture being quite large in Vancouver. Due to the ongoing COVID situation, they have temporarily moved their business from the bakery to online for the time being. Definitely worth it. I'm a coffee novice but I know what I like and don't like. I think it was the owner who served me, he was intimidating but he certainly knows his craft. He recommended me their seasonal Sweet Blossom coffee after hearing my preference (I told him I not fond of the acidic taste to some coffees) and I was blown away. The coffee pour over was not like any coffee I have had before and I will certainly be back for more. He recommended the Gora Kone to my sister as she prefers a more fruitier taste. I had their morning whiskey ($6) and I must say it's pretty good. I got it to go but the ice cube was simply too big for the paper straw to go through. I took a sip from the cup and guess what, it tastes different drinking it from the straw compared to taking sips from the cup. I'm glad the straw couldn't go through so I could get the real taste. Unfortunately, I was on the go so in the end I had to use the straw. It's a very small coffee shop with limited amount of baked goods. I was hoping to find their famous bun but it looks like they only had cookies and something that didn't catch my attention. This spot is probably my favourite place to grab a coffee and snack now! It's such a cute, minimalist cafe, that serves top notch items made with quality and care. The owners are also extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their products which makes every visit such a pleasant experience. I always look forward to getting my morning fix of coffee here and indulging in whatever freshly baked goodies they have on display. I am a huge fan of their pear galettes, sausage rolls, blueberry mascarpone turnovers, and lemon madeleines. If you're looking for delicious bread to take home, I highly recommend their loaves - the bread is so soft and has the perfect texture. Well, I got a notification from Yelp that my review was removed because of the language I used, which is preposterous. Anyway, now I'm reposting a 1 star review. I stand by what I said originally. The coffee is good, but the owner has a very condescending attitude towards his customers that is downright rude and insulting. I suggested a few friends go here for the coffee and they all had the same comment about the owner's attitude. His coffee is good, but it's not the best, and very expensive. First time coming here to try their coffee and it was so good. I'm not a coffee snob but I know good coffee. Their slow drip cold coffee called Morning Whisky was absolutely outstanding! For me it was the whole experience of it, the combination of the whisky glass and ice sphere mimicking a whisky was just genius and it worked very well together! If in Vancouver, visit this extremely hidden, tiny standing-only bakery, highly lauded for its pour-over coffee. In my opinion-acidic and overrated. However, they DO serve the best loaves of fresh bread. I visited because my sister and her boyfriend told me they got a 10.00 cup of black coffee here and that they don't offer sugar, as they maintain that it would adulterate the taste of the brew. Lovely little hidden gem! The decor is simple, and ambiance is cozy. I tried their split, which is a macchiato and an espresso shot. I also tried my friend's pourover. All of our orders came from the same bean, but the notes are all completely different with different preparation methods. The machiatto is very creamy and thick, the coffee flavour was nicely incorporated with the milk. On the other hand, the espresso shot was clean but dense! The after taste is absolutely lovely!!!! (Sorry, I forgot what the bean was) The pourover, was the mildest and smoothest of all. The taste palette is very subtle, very tea-like! We also tried their matcha cookies! Crumbly and delicious! Absolutely enjoyed it. Overall, great place to hide out and enjoy great coffee and baked goods. However, seating is limited! I believe there are only 4 seats indoors. It's a cute little shop by Olympic Village. They're known as Fife (bakery) and Moving Coffee (roaster). The place is operated by two guys; one being a roaster and the other is a baker. Please get the Morning Whiskey (Cold brew ) and the Switch. For the switch, you have to have it in-house. The grass fed cow milk they use, elevates the flavours. So on point - like wow. Ambiance: very tiny (one bar area with 4 bar stools for seating and thats it! There's a small bench outside the front door for sunny days. Dont come here thinking you can study). Industrial/minimalist vibe. Clean. Neat. Coffee: i had an ethiopian bean roasted between light and medium. It came with a card with info highlighting where it's from and some distinct notes. It was extracted expertly as an espresso and tasted best this way in my opiniom even though i usually prefer pour overs. The pour over was done well, light in color, no sediment and tasted fresh (obviously). Bread: will need to try next time. Pastry: I had a monte blanc which was good but not my preference for having with coffee as it masks the subtle sweetness of an ethiopian brew. It was like a chinese pineapple bun in that it had a sweet sugared layer with hazlenut filling i believe. It was warm when served. The filling tasted fresh and not artificial. The staff: wow. I am incredibly impressed by how patient, and hard working they are. They are willing to educate you down to showing you the beans and letting you smell them. I've been to a lot of coffee places and id be the most upset if this place closed. I would 100% recommend this place to anybody curious about coffee or interested in having fresh baked goods. I picked up a bag of their Single Varietal 100% Caturra yesterday after reading a review of this roaster on Vancouver Coffee Snob. It is more expensive than most 3/4 lb. bags, so I had high expectations. I was not disappointed. This is the smoothest, most sophisticated espresso I have ever had. No hyperbole. I usually pick up my beans from various roasters sold at Revolver, but this is a new favourite. If you're very discerning about coffee, I would give this cafe and roaster a try. read more
