The Long Version: These days my husband and I are usually only in Montreal on weekends, but recently we planned a trip there during the week, so I was determined to hit up the places that have limited hours and are only open weekdays. Sushiyo was one such place. It's a bit tucked away. Although the address is on Sherbrooke, the entrance is actually off Robert Bourassa. Look for the sign and follow the arrow, lol. You enter the side/back of the building. My husband and I had lunch there. It was 1pm on a Monday and was bustling. I had the beef bibimbap ($15.99) and requested no sesame seeds. If you dine in, which we did, your meal comes with a free miso soup. My husband got the Maki combo 2 ($11.99). You order, pay and sit down. They bring the food to you when it's ready. When you're done you put your tray in the designated spot for them to clear away. The bibimbap was good. It was served in a regular bowl though, not a dolsot (hot stone bowl). It had beef bulgogi, carrots, mushrooms, onions, carrots, spinach and zucchini in top of white rice. They give you a squirt bottle of Gochujang. The miso soup was flavourful but it was mostly broth with a small amount of wakame seaweed. It didn't have any tofu cubes. My husband's Maki combo was 12 pieces of Maki with several different types (chef's choice). He enjoyed his meal. Service was courteous and welcoming. We didn't wait long for our food. The ambiance is a bit cafeteria-like. It's a casual eatery where you have lunch with coworkers or friends. It's not like a hot date destination, lol. I love places like this: small independently-owned businesses that serve good food at reasonable prices. Review #143 (2025)

I thought the poke bowl would be the usual but was very surprised at how delicious the sauce was! It's a mix of teriyaki and spicy mayo and it's just divine. I especially loves the mango and takuan bits in the bowl. The fish in the sushi rolls were really fresh as was the rice. We loved the sauces that went with the different rolls. It's a little bit more expensive than the average poke/sushi place but it's worth it. I enjoyed the ambiance although there was a lingering smell of cleaning products. But I would definitely come back and eat the same thing again.
