They had my Volkswagen for 3 weeks for an AC repair. Got it back and the AC was still not working and now the speedometer didn't work. I called Earl to tell him the problem and he was very angry saying he hated my car and had nothing to do with the speedometer.Took it to Too Quicks. They replaced the AC compressor and noticed a fuse was missing for the speedometer. Everything is working fine now. I went back and told mouse meat what the problem was and they denied everything. I sent my sons car here to get fixed. The guys were down to earth helpful and knowledgeable. Did not make you feel like you were gonna get ripped off actually listened to me and understood what I wanted . I had already spend a lot of money at another place that didn't even listen though they pretended too and waisted our time and money . This place, the guys were able to do exactly what I asked and give answers within a week and at a cheaper price. Trust built. The only thing I would say is I wished they had better communication as I had to call to get updates and it's taken awhile. But a small price to pay for legit services imo. Not very professional! Previously had our 2004 VW worked on before without any issues at this shop. So figured let's go back when another issue came up. Last week, called their shop ahead to see about getting a free estimate for tie rods or axle work and was told sure~just stop by an hour before they close, but sure enough they closed shop early on a Friday around 4pm. 2nd attempt for the same estimate was earlier this afternoon. Before we could explain the entire issue with the clicking noise in the front of our car...that was heard only when making turns ~ was ended up being cut off by the shop guy~ saying it was the axle and that the car was done. NO Estimate was given and they didn't even want to look at our car, or take this issue any further. They laughed and didn't offer any service advice whatsoever. Pretty lame. Didn't expect such poor customer service and we'll never trust or go back to or even recommend this shop to another VW owner. So next stop was to another nearby auto repair shop, where we got a free estimate, and was given proper customer service with the repair!! Also included was a 12k warranty for what ended up being a quick repair on a CV joint and my VW ride was road ready again. Such a huge difference between the two shops in how they treat their customers. Won't be going back there. read more

Amazing service! 1st time here and would really recommend. I have a 2004 TDI Jetta. Check engine light came on and "lil red" had been acting a little different, but nothing major. Anyhow, i brought in the car around 12:00pm. They ran a diagnostic and determined it was the cam sensor and glow plug harness that needed replacement. They said they'd be able to get it completed by close of business (5:00pm). I came back around 4:30pm and the car was complete with parts replaced laid out for my reviewing. We've just moved to Tacoma and as mentioned our vehicle is a 2004. We have definitely found a new shop for our vehicle. Thanks fella's. Still owe you a 12pk of beer though. Lol. On the next visit! This review is a few years overdue. I moved to Washington in late 2015 and had a 2010 VW TDI DSG Sportwagen at the time. A few days after traveling from MN to WA my dual mass flywheel failed. I brought my car to this shop and had the flywheel replaced. I paid around $1600 for the repair and after I picked it up, the flywheel failed again within 100 miles. Not a huge deal, parts can fail out of the box and Mouse Meat replaced it under warranty. Drove it another 100 miles and the flywheel failed again.. I then tried to bring it back and was told that I had to wait to hear back from the supplier of the flywheel about warranty. I needed my car for the work I was doing at the time and waited about a month, after calling every week and asking for an update as the flywheel continued to get worse. I was eventually told the pilot bearing was replaced with an AIRCOOLED VW pilot bearing as they were "around" the same size. So according to Mouse Meat a vehicle that makes 40hp and even less Tq is appropriate for a vehicle making quadruple the power. I kept getting the run around by the owner and the technician. Eventually my flywheel broke and completely fell off the crankshaft, leaving me stranded. I towed the car to VW and when the flywheel failed, it took out the transmission itself costing me $10,000 for a new transmission and flywheel. MOUSE MEAT HAS NO BUSINESS FIXING ANYTHING. STAY AWAY FROM THESE HACKS. As someone who is mechanically inclined and currently works for a performance VW/Audi shop in Minnesota as a service technician Mouse Meat is absolute garbage and has no idea what they're doing. Save yourself some time and money and go to Achtuning if you need VW/Audi repair in the Tacoma/Seattle area. read more

These guys are awesome! My Audi A6 had some major timing issues along with other things (so lame ...) and they team at Mouse Meat have been so helpful! The car has been there for over 6 weeks and when something else went wrong when I came to pick it up they felt so bad they gave me a deal on labor (seriously that's so awesome!) My husband deals with all of the details, but when I drop by to check in Earl, Bugly, Ernest and everyone else around the shop help me out with anything I need. I ran over a huge pothole in Seattle nearly 2 weeks ago and had to get an emergency tire replace the. I was told by the tire shop that I needed a new strut and possibly more. I had already scheduled an oil change the following week at my dealer and asked them to quote me for the repair. The dealer told me that in addition to replacing the strut I also needed a control arm. I was devastated. All this for a pothole? With Christmas less than a week away I wanted to save as much as I could in order to mitigate this unanticipated expense. I googled and found this unassuming shop with a very unusual name. I spoke to Earl, the shop owner, and told him what I thought I knew to be the issue and he gave me a a very fair estimate over the phone. I brought my 2018 VW GTI the next day near closing time. The next morning I received a call and was given the most wonderful news! Earl told me that he could not find any issue with my car except for a bent wheel and he could not in good conscience take my money for a strut and control arm replacement that was unnecessary. Earl said all I needed was a new wheel and even mentioned a few places I might try to locate one at a lower cost. I was astounded by this man's honesty and integrity. I have ordered a new wheel and will bring it to Earl for installation. This man has earned all my future business. If you are in need of any work on your VW, please make sure to call here first. I love this place!! I've taken my 95 Jetta GLX here for everything from axles to windshield wipers, and it's always been back to me in half the time and at half the price of any shop I've called for a quote. Before I started coming to Mousemeat, I would have my car towed to a shop (the clutch was out) only to have them tell me THEY WOULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT IT. I then had it towed to Mouse Meat, and they had it replaced and tuned up and back to me in less than 24 hours, at $400 less than I was quoted by another VW shop. Bugly is an excellent mechanic, and once welded an intake muffler for me in about 10 minutes, because there wasn't an available one in the shop. I recently had a tune up there, and my car runs better than ever! Earl and Sierra are both extremely knowledgeable about all VWs, both air- and water-cooled, and gave my boyfriend expert and honest advice when he was in the market for a new VW. They are both extremely knowledgeable about other German vehicles as well, and Earl knows the answer to any car question you have, from 68 Caddys to 86 Bronco II's. Mike is a dream come true when it comes to customer service. He always does the math a few times when adding up my quotes, and finds the best prices he can for me on parts. He's sincere and friendly, while being honest and affable. I've had an excellent experience every time I've come here, and I'm going to be coming here for as long as I own a Volkswagen! They've done some fabulous custom work for both me and my boyfriend, and excellent and reliable maintenance and repair on my daily driver Jetta. This shop is a disaster. Took in my running vehicle for preventative maintenance and now nearly five months later my vehicle sits at Mouse meat broken down and full of problems. We paid them approximately $6000.00 for this job! Once they get your money they really don't care about fixing your car. Mine sits in the lot and they always say that they will try to get it in the shop next week. There are a lot of cars parked in their lot so it makes me wonder how many people they are doing this to. Their neglect has had a huge negative impact on our family. We trusted these people to fix my car. It's the only transportation I have and they know that! I would NOT recommend going here - you get what you pay for! They left my 1979 convertible bug outside for three weeks in the HEAVY rain when I told them my window seals were shot. Everything I asked them to replace they told me it would be cheaper if I did it myself (window seals, lights, battery, etc). The brakes ended up rusting because of the puddles I found in my car after I picked her up from them and is costing me $200 to fix at Ovals. I brought my car in with a seized engine and wanted a diagnosis to see what caused it, these chumps tell me that the car was ran out of oil causing the engine to seize. I go down to get my car to replace the engine myself and not only do i see that they never even dropped the oil pan for inspection but my car wasn't even low on oil at all, and was told I need to pay 4,000 to rebuild my engine? lol. and they charged me an hour for diagnosis. once again this is a scam shop so STAY AWAY! you were warned. read more

I have a 1984 GTI and had some brake issues. Took to MouseMeat on reference from another shop. I also had some stainless brake lines i wanted installed. I take to them, the inspect. They say its my master cylinder. The show me the retail price of the part that they are going to sell me, and it is $200, but they can get it delivered and finished today. The total cost on the job is $500+. They install a black rebuilt Schucks master cylinder that costs $69.95 at Schucks, and come to find out from previous owner, the master cylinder that was in there was NEW and a Bosch. They installed 2 of my stainless brake lines, but i didnt have discs in the back, and they kept (STOLE) my rear set of lines. AND to top it off, my brakes werent fixed at all...still squishy and had to push to the back to stop. The guy who did the work, goes on a test drive with me and says that for $50 more, he can fix my back brakes at a later date, and that would finally fix the brake problem. A few weeks later I take to my usual VW mechanic. He pushes on brake and says that my problem the whole time was that i needed new brake pads. $15.00 for pads, $50.00 worth of labor and the car was fixed...he also told me that the master cylinder would have made the brakes feel different than they way they were if it needed replacement... DO NOT GO TO EARL AND HIS RIP OFF SHOP...THEY SCAM, STEAL, AND SUCK... $200 for a $70 part (and the part didnt need replacement) $300 for labor??? Stolen stainless brake lines and NEW Bosch master cylinder AND.....PROBLEM NOT EVEN FIXED AVOID AT ALL COSTS DONT LET THESE PEOPLE ROB YOU read more

The short version - They wont be working on my vw diesel pick up again because of very poor workmanship. The details, Took my 82 caddy to Mouse Meat on May/22/2017 because it started smoking and running rough. I was specific in the work I wanted done, replace 4 injectors and 4 glow plugs, check compression, check injector pump timing and change the oil. When I picked up my truck the mechanic said he didn't know the compression for certain because his compression gauge only went up to 300 lbs. and all cylinders maxed out his gauge. I should have been told when I dropped the truck off he didn't have the correct tools to do the job. Strike one. When he started the truck it was still smoking and running rough. I ask him if he timed the injection pump and he said yes it was off about 5 degrees. In that case I thought I may have bad rings, a quality compression test would have answered that question. I limped the truck home and started checking things myself. The first check I made was to see if the injection pump timing was indeed correct. It was way off! so I went through the entire I.P. set up procedure and when I finished it ran smooth and didn't smoke, a lot more power too. Strike two. On May 25th I called the manager and ask for a partial refund for the compression test and I.P. timing. He said he would talk to the mechanic and call me back. He never called me back. On May 29th I called the manager and again requested a refund for the compression test and I.P. timing. Again he said he would talk to the mechanic and call me back. He still has not called me back Strike three. To add insult to injury they charged me $60 dollars for a simple oil change! Strike four. Sorry Mouse Meat, there are several other VW repair shops in this area. I'll take my chances some place else next time. read more

They keep having you come back an ultimately you end up at the dealership again. So I just wanted to let all Tacoma VW owners know that if you have any issues with your VW, new or older, these are the guys to go see. I originally made the mistake of taking my '99 VW Beetle to Dan Knowels of Dan Knowels foreign auto clinic here in North Tacoma first simply because I could walk home while my car was getting looked at...big mistake! Not only did Dan change the quoted price on me mid way through but he charged me an extreme amount to do the work. Not a month later I was having the same issues (overheating). I took it back to Dan and he said it was something new that was going to cost me several hundred to fix and then it might need some more work on top of that! He also charged me $50 just to look at my car. I decided to get a second opinion and took it to Mouse Meat on a referral from another VW owner. Not only did Mouse meat look at my car for free to asses the situation but the fix was a super cheap $60 fan switch that they put in within minutes once it arrived later that day. The guys and girl staff were all very friendly to me and my young daughter while we were there and even let her sit in some cool old cars while we waited. This morning I woke up to another VW problem of unknown water in my back seat floor area. I called mouse meat and they said to bring her in to give it a look. I had a really full day and said I couldn't get there until 4:45 (they close at 5). The guy on the phone said "well come at 4:45 then! :)" I did just that and they took a look at my car and thought it maybe was a sealing issue. A couple of the guys did some sealing, hand drained the water out of my car and sent us on our way, all free of charge and with a smile even though it was after 5 by this time. Overall the staff here is super friendly and not creepy like a lot of those car guys can be. They are sweet to me and my young child which is huge in my book and if they don't do it for free because it is so easy for them then the price seems fair and very reasonable compared to other Tacoma VW mechanics. I highly recommend them and will only take my VW there from here on out! read more

Gave tip earlier b/c I'm new to yelp, but these guys deserve a full review. I was really happy with the work they did on my Saab Viggen. Price was right and they kept me informed about changes. I found out later by looking at their website that they actually do race days and help build race cars which I guess explains why a muffler and transmission issue was so easy for them to handle. If I can get house hold six to sign off on it one day hopefully I'll be building a respectable race machine out of the viggen. read more

This place is not as bad as some of the other reviews might say, at least not in my experience. I took my Cabrio in because it needed a new belt. The guy did upsell me for another belt that didn't necessarily need replacing, but I figured why not, as long as I'm here. They were fast, friendly, and reasonably priced.
