I live in an area where they only have Xfinity and that is why I use them! I am strongly considering moving just to not have this service. Customer service is okay to say the least. They have an automated system that you can barely get ahold of anyone. When you opt out of receiving text messages they still send them. When I first signed up they had me pick the box up but my internet did not work so they sent out a technician. Come to find out the store actually gave me the wrong box. Later on I see they charged me $100 service fee for the technician coming out to replace the incorrect box. They have multiple internet outages and there is nothing you can do about it but wait. So, good luck if you work from home! My internet would not work properly for almost a week I called in every day! They finally sent someone out to "resolve the issue" and as soon as he left it was the same issue. So they sent a senior tech the very next day. Come to find out cords and the box needed to be replaced after only have it for 5 months! Of course they charged $100 to my account.

Ok, so this is not so much a local business so I'm not really picking on the Overland Park branch…read more However, I did feel the need to post a warning because you may get suckered in by the "cool" factor of internet on-the-go. I'm not usually an early adopter, but the idea of being able to take my notebook into a place that doesn't have internet and be connected is a nerd's dream. As a family, we also like going on road trips, and I had this giddy vision that I when it's not my turn to drive, I could be riding shotgun with my notebook and getting some work done. Well, I should have heeded the red flags that went off when they required you to either by all the equipment up front (which was $200+) or submit to a 2-year contract. Now, I'm sitting here watching a download that I started before I went to bed last night with 6 hours left to go and longing for the days I had comcast (yeesh). Part of me thinks that the speed will get better over time, but the coverage here in KC is about as good as it can get. I think the problem may be the fiber cement siding on my house, but the connection doesn't get better next to the windows. The "mobile" works until you get about 1/2 mile outside of Kansas City and then disappears. It's supposed to switch to the nationwide 3G network if it can't connect to the Clear 4G one, but it has yet to do this. However, the 2nd star for this review is because I can go to a park around town and get internet (should that situation ever arise). Outside of that I pretty much think it's a bust and am counting down the days until July, 2012. If the world hasn't ended by then, I am soooo dumping them.

I live in Mid-town Kansas City (close to westport) and have found that my connection is on par with dial-ups I've had. (Only it costs $50 per month!) Whenever I call them (over a dozen times) they tell me that they're experiencing high volume and equalizing everyone's bandwidth. Evidently all times (even early morning like 3:00 am Central time) are "high volume". Of course I played with the modem for hours, my signal strength on the modem is always full strength, and the Clear website connection support shows that I'm getting full strength connection. Also, they claim that there are "no contracts" and maybe that's true now, but I got roped into a contract and they're going to charge me a huge fee simply because I'm moving out of the area and into a town with no Clear Internet available. thank god. Basically, if you are considering CLEAR internet, you need to RUN, FLY! get as far as you can from these scam artists!
