Rather funky place that offers many outdoor gear options, such as gear for skiing and camping, among many other activities. Many many surplus military goods from all over the world, from fuel canisters to various packs. And the supplies also include dehydrated meals/meal rations of a number of varieties. What caught my eye were the various bags of many sorts, since I did need a replacement for one of my aging bags. I ended up with a piece that I believe resembles an Israeli-style military bag, with a few compartments, made of a heavy duty cotton weave. I had spied this style of bag several years ago while browsing at this very establishment, and today was the right time to pick up this item. At the very least, the store is a great place to browse for a collection of items not normally seen at many other stores. read more

Decent prices on lots of obscure things you won't find locally. Being prior service, I'm a big fan of quality gear that is useful. This place has a nice assortment of things that fit those criteria. If you happen to go in there, look up! Lots of cool stuff is hanging from the ceilings and walls. If you don't see it, ask and the dude behind the counter. It's not exactly the surplus store from "Falling Down", but still pretty good! (Used to give) 10% discount (cash) for Boy Scouts, Military, and Law Enforcement customers with ID. read more

Great selection of summer hats! Came here for Burning Man supplies, and got a ton of crucial gear. Staff knew their stuff and prices were reasonable. According to the manager they stock a bunch of ski gear for the winter season, I'll be back! read more

I have been passing this place for sometime when i was doing my deliveries in Sunnyvale and one day decided to check this place out. This store is actually cool there's a ton of selection of outdoor products to be had for camping. I recently bought a folding stove from this place & a couple of mess kits. This place is legit that carries Mil Spec stuff from duffel bags to individual MRE's to backpacking food. I think they also make custom Dog tags on the premises and they also sell paracord by the yard. I really like this store it's just too bad there's nothing like this Hayward that i had to travel far to get my camping supplies. If you're passing by Sunnyvale and you're in need of outdoor & camping stuff, drop by here and check it out. read more

Really great customer service here! A clerk (Daniel) really went above and beyond and opened several boxes of MREs from their storage are to find the entrée I was looking for. He multitasked and assisted other customers as he searched for me. The fact that he found the entrée I was looking for was just icing on the cake; It was his effort and customer service that really impressed! Otherwise, there's a HUGE selection of gear at great prices at this location. read more

Lots of real deal military equipment and everything else you need for out doors activities.

This place Is pretty good. I came in today needing pepper spray and Daniel, an associate there was BEYOND helpful. He was very knowledgeable and not only helped me pick out my pepper spray but demonstrated how to use It effectively. He spent over a half an hour helping me and answering all my questions. Thank You Daniel, you're awesome!!!! I'll be back for sure! read more

This place is great! The number of items IN stock is staggering and the owner really knows his stuff! He was friendly and helped me find perfect fitting boots, BDUs, tac vest and gloves. I went in knowing nothing and asked many questions all of which were well received. On top of all of this the prices were just right and i left feeling like i made a good buy with high grade items that did not break the bank! read more

Ok, so I'm not a frequent visitor of surplus places, and, honestly, I expect them to be a little creepy (post-Apocalyptic paranoia exuding from MREs, knives and radiation suits!). And yes, I know that the one on Stevens Creek in SJ is nicer (though pricier). That said, this place is inexpensive, and full of all kinds of cool stuff for camping, skiing, hiking, and working. It's great for buying snow gear for fast-growing kids, picking up cheap hats and finding SILK long underwear for 1/2 the price of REIs high tech synthetic stuff. I've never had a problem with service here (though I've never tried to return anything either). And it's nearby. read more

I have been a long time customer of the store. Every time I come in, I find something new hiding amongst the rest of the merchandise. There is a huge selection of knives (Emerson, Benchmade, Spyderco, SOG...), camping (sleeping bags, lanterns, canteens...), tactical (BDUs, vests, gun bags, pouches...), survival (MREs, storage containers, camouflage netting...), and surplus products (gas masks, ammo cans, kevlar helmets, duffel bags...). The prices range from great to a tad high. In the end, it evens out, and I am happy spending my money here. Staff is helpful if you are polite. If you are rude, they will be rude back. I witnessed this firsthand today when a lady got upset that they did not carry the camping knife she wanted, and later stormed off when an employee refused to give her free batteries for a toy. I will continue shopping here for years to come. I love surplus stores, and as far as the Bay Area goes, this is one of the last true surplus stores. read more

This place has got a lot of camping gear, and random military gear. I came here to pick up a swiss army knife for a backpacking trip. The owner of this place was very helpful in helping me pick out the kind of knife I'd need to use for backpacking and didn't try to sell me anything more than what I needed or that was of lesser quality. They also have a nice weapons counter if you're into that sort of thing. They've got some good stuff and some okay stuff, I think you've just got to know what you're looking for. Also, there's a lot of camping gear so it's work checking out if you need supplies. It smells a little funny there though, I have to admit. read more

I may love this place more than Airsoft Extreme, just because I can afford things here when I have the money. I actually like this surplus store more than Stevens Creek Surplus. I bought my shemagh here for airsofting, what more can I say. :) read more

This place is pretty great. I am a paracordist, I tie survival bracelets and other paracord items, and this place is the best in town for paracord stuff. Now, their selection is a little sparse, they don't have a lot of colors, but the quality of the cord is excellent. They also have a good stock of the typical surplus store stuff, and their prices are fair. I just wish they'd get in a wider variety of paracord! read more

This used to be a really cool, inexpensive store when it was located on San Antonio Rd. back in the 70's/80's. The new location (& new owners I'm assuming) is OK, still fun stuff to rummage through and the prices are OK - not that cheap, but not outrageoulsy expensive either. Nice selection of bandanas, reasonably priced. But BEWARE of their return policy. It's not stated on the receipt & they do not tell you when you check out, but you only have 10 days to return items for a cash refund. After that, it's store credit only. I got a there a little before 7pm (granted, closing time during the week) to return two items purchased a little over 2 weeks ago, that were never used & tags still on. When I asked about getting my money back, the clerk just kept pointing to the yellow sign that states no refunds after 10 days. (NOTE: yellow sign to the left of the cash register). Essentially, I believe it's there just to CTA. Normal return polices are 30 days. Also, because it was closing time, this particular clerk didn't want to take the time to write out a store credit. He asked me to come back tomorrow. Really? It takes 5 minutes - if that - to write out a store credit. Disappointing. Feels kind of snarky to me. If they respected their customers more, the return policy should be noted on the receipt & also mentioned to the customer during checkout. Perhaps they did, but I don't remember it & usually pay attention to stuff like that. Generally, I like the store & one of the younger clerks is very nice & helpful. But left yesterday with a bad feeling & just wanted to warn other customers. read more

Fun place to look around... there is so much to see (and buy!) here! From old WWII bags to MREs... they've got it and everything in between. Great place to check out if you're planning to stock up on emergency goods. read more

I'm not sure where else you can find army suplus locally. This is worth a visit just to see what they have. Though I don't have much use for most of their wares, it's a fun place to browse, and I know several people who got their Halloween costumes here. read more

Awesome Surplus Store!!! Need I say More!! Camo, Boot's, Camping Gear, and, Oh My, Custom Dog-Tag's!!!!

Great military surplus and camping essentials store. Hats and wierd surplus too.

They went out of their way to help me get ready for Burning Man. They had everything I needed and were helpful and friendly. The customer service is excellent. I asked them to put some items on hold and they did and they were there when I arrived. I found so many things I needed and more. read more

Really seems limited to some camping or paintball gear for the most part and not even the good brands, limited parking, rude or incompetent staff and super expensive. At these prices and for what they have to offer, I'd rather get screwed over at Mel Cottons in San Jose. read more

Good selection, good prices, and easy access right off of the main drag.

this place is awful-if you buy anything you are at the risk of a completely arbitrary return policy-they can accept returns or not-without any good reason. AVOID this store at all costs if for any reason you think you might need to return anything. i bought several items. returned several of them the next day and told the clerk that i might need to return the remaining items if they didnt work for my application. came back three days later and they gave me hard time about returning the remaining items (the total dollar value of all the merchandise was less than $40). the clerk told me he would allow the return this time but not again-returns were subject to management discretion. read more

This place is a disgrace to surplus stores, its just like a dollar general but with fake plastic shit. there were a few military style gas tanks but they were 100$. me and my friend went here expecting to find ALICE frames, goggles, and gas masks. this place also smelled kinda funny. this place is a huge letdown, dont waste your time here. read more

My favorite thing ever about this place is it has a lot of marine corps jackets and stuff like urban camo shirt and pants

Was in the neighborhood and popped in to round out my camping supply list. Prices were good and selection abundant! Had an issue with a water filter that was purchased previously new in the box but discovered to have 2 components missing. The manager on duty, Dar, handled the situation with aplomb expressing no hesitancy to refund my money. Rather, he offered an alternative solution in another product, verified item was intact, and ended up being less expensive. Customer service was excellent and I'd definitely recommend this place for all of your camping, outdoor, and survival needs! read more

After my experience today, if I could give zero (0) or negative stars, I would...Some 6 years ago, I purchased a nice Military 'Medical' trunk from MV Surplus. Deciding I had no use for it and being in the same great condition as when I bought it, I thought I'd give it back to them for free as they would be able to sell it again at pure profit-- I was in a charitable mood. Trust me when I say I'm easy to deal with-- as easy as they come. But I'll never step foot in this store again. The man running the store provided the worst customer service I've ever seen, and get this-- actually berated and insulted me. I was more amazed than upset, but man am I glad I get to post about it here! After telling the employee about this military trunk I wanted to give back for free, he told me the answer was no- since "if the owner doesn't want it by chance, we're stuck with having to get rid of it." OK, this I can understand. However I said, "I'm pretty sure it's something the owner would want and would be able to sell, since I bought it here and I'm giving it back to you for free, would you be willing to just take a look at it and then make a decision to see if it's something you think the owner would want for free? It's in great condition, the same as when you sold it to me." At that point he literally stopped talking and looking at me, walked away mid-conversation then he answered his cell phone for a personal call. I stood there half in amazement and for his response being confused about the conversation ending and having been treated so badly, -- When he paused his phone call to angrily say to me. "ALRIGHT JUST BRING IT IN HERE INSTEAD OF STANDING THERE MOPING ABOUT IT." Standing there moping about it? So-- you tell me...How's that for taking the time and effort to lug it over there, and walk into an establishment to help THEM out-- only to be ignored, and then berated by an employee!? It was a very weird experience, I actually felt kind of creeped out as I walked out the door...don't go here, ever-- There's other Surplus stores to go to. I should also mention the guy working this place at the time was truly scary, think-- the Zed's Dead scene from Pulp Fiction. That was totally the vibe...At least I got out alive!!! Whoever the gentleman was running the store today, I highly suggest that he not interface with customers. read more

I went to this store to find a bag to carry some oversized items on a flight. The people who helped me were fine. I asked if I could return it if it was not the correct size and they said yes. The only condition was to have the receipt and return within 10 days---as it said on the counter. Two days later, I went to return the item and a different man, who seemed like the owner, gave me every excuse on why I could not return it. I was so angry I snatched the receipt and the bag and stormed out after I told him to keep the money! If you shop here, be sure what you are buying because you will have to argue to get your money back. The item was only $40. What a bad businessman! read more

Bought $100 worth of stuff for a Halloween costume and couldn't return a $10 (unused with tags) hat on 10/29... even though when I bought the stuff, 1 of their employees said that they dont really have a return policy! A bait and switch if I ever heard of one. Don't you just love a place that DOESN'T take care of their customers? Not me. Last time I set my foot in this wonderful establishment. Buyer Beware. read more

I've come to this store a half dozen times over last few years, and have brought friends and family here. The owner is quite knowledgeable, warm, friendly, and easy going. He has spent on a couple of occasions about an hour helping us with our selections. Great customer service. High quality kit. Thumbs up. read more

Man in front was very rude. Asked for help but ignored us. And then we had either 25 or 100 and the item was 26.37 and he said it was fine and then said what you see what you see you need to pay that. So was just rude. read more

Great selection of hats! The military gear is a mix of authentic items and some junky knock-offs. Camping gear is pretty good. I like Steven's Creek Surplus a little better. read more

I was prepared to give this place a good rating, as the selection & prices are very good. But then I attempted to return two unopened items within a day of purchase. What a hassle!!! Make sure to ask about the return policy beforehand -- as I did --listen carefully to what they say, and remain firm if they try to change the terms on you later. Don't let them get away with bad customer service!! Needless to say I will not be going back. read more

Great place! Friendly, personable, and helpful staff. I always go in there for just one thing and end up wanting to buy the whole store. So many goodies here. Camping gear (packs, cookware, sleeping bags, etc.), military uniforms, boots/shoes, self defense gear, hats, they have soo much stuff. Very fun. Very reasonably priced. Support local stores! read more

The reason I'm giving this place 3 stars cause the pocket knives are a bit pricey. This place is the absolute best. So much variety and great customer service. Great for all military and airsoft wear.

Awesome place! The staff answered every question I presented and even walked me to the places to show me where products I was asking for were. I was looking for an Army helmet for my boyfriend's costume and the girl that helped me nearly showed me every variation of helmet from different countries and eras... it was Rad! Everyone seemed to really know the inventory that worked there which is a HUGE plus and the place is very well organized and clean. The manager and staff were very friendly and for a family owned business they really are extremely reasonable compared to other supply places I've been to over the years. Sure you can go to a big shmancy place that will be slightly cheaper that will only have limited selection on items and I really doubt that the staff will be as attentive to you as these folks were to me.This is a great place to shop if you need some authentic costumes or camping gear especially for the Black Rock desert! )'( )'( read more
