I was here with a large group after a golf outing. We had a lot of drinks and then dinner. At the bar, the servers were attentive and helpful, and I have no complains about the drinks. I got the same (one) mixed drink I always get at a bar and it was a little on the strong side which was nice. They had an Italian almond-flavored whiskey I've never heard of ("Digiorno"?) which was quite tasty. The meal menu includes "lighter fare" which was basically various sandwiches and a vegetarian pasta dish (hooray! Restaurants around here don't seem to know we exist). Several appetizers, including a few vegetarian ones, and a couple of salads, in addition to the meat, meat, and more meat entrees ("served with a starch and a fresh vegetable" - the available starches included couscous, which I didn't expect around here). The appetizers even include escargots. The basil/mozzarella/tomato salad with pesto was good, the rolls nice and slightly sweet, and my pasta dish pretty nice, though the snap peas weren't destringed. The meal took a while to come but there were 15 of us, so I'm not complaining. Service was pretty good. Presentation was pretty good. A real relief on a business trip after a couple of nights at chain "steakhouses." read more

This is a very nice place to have a meal. The lounge side is very casual and has a good happy hour and good food. When I have been there in the past they have brought out trays of food for the happy hour patrons, not sure if they still do that though. The Restaurant side is more upscale and dressy. It's tough to get a bad meal here, just about all of the dishes I have had are really well done. It's nice to be able to look off onto the golf course or the ski hill as you are eating. read more

It's sad to see how far this place has gone downhill. Kathleen's used to be great, and mountain view was a real nice pub atmosphere. Now they are combined, the menu is condensed into a one page limited option menu. Out of the four of us, not one happy person. The items were all variations of normal dishes, not sure what the chef was thinking with some of the dish ingredients. The pizza that the server raved about, was undercooked and uneventful. Drinks were cold, atmosphere great, service was so-so. I now understand why the hours here have been cut - it's not worth coming back - and it shows It's too bad, because I live fairly close and would love to come here more often. It's a nice place for a drink, but the food is bad to average at best and way overpriced for what you get. Go elsewhere. read more

This restaurant is attached to the Apple Mountain resort, in Freeland, MI. It was quite a ways from my house in Michigan, but I was there for work. The staff was very helpful and kind during the promo Belvedere shift we had to work that day. Once my shift was over, I ordered a club sandwich to go, for lunch. The club sandwich was hands down one of the best club sandwiches I've ever had, I kid you not. It came with a pickle and kettle chips. Whenever I am back that way, I would definitely stop in for lunch and a drink. read more

While I didn't have an official meal here (I recently visited for a bridal shower), it was a nice experience so I wanted to review it...but it will be short and sweet, LOL. The restaurant was nice and clean, and the service was good. Our private room of about 30 people was served by about four waiters and requested drinks were brought quickly. (They also brought me a car-seat holder without me even asking!) I also saw a manager-type person appear more than once to make sure everything was going well. The food was really good, too--we had a prepared plate of chicken noodle soup, chicken salad croissant, and a fruit bowl (with the bowl made of melon strips). It was a nice experience and I would gladly go back if we lived in the area. read more

What a disappointing experience based on the reviews I read of this place I really wanted to try it out. Upon entering there were two people standing at the hostess booth one who was our waiter and the hostess we didn't get greeted but I spoke and said hi three today! We ordered the BLT and large chicken nacho the blt bread for one was not toasted like come on I go to Denny's even they get it right and they get pretty busy there we were the only two tables including ours there so yeah they were dead and it does make sense because the food was terrible! The nacho had big chunks of ice berg lettuce thrown on top and ythey forgot the chicken they brought us out 10 small cubes of chicken that were cold and not seasoned. I asked them to take the blt off because there was nothing great about it personally I can make a better one at home but that's not the point Kathleen's is supposed to be a five star fine dining experience I felt like I was eating food served from a old dirty bar. I thought it was funny when the manager didn't believe the bread was toasted even by the color but decided to pick the bread off and touch it and say oh yeah they didn't toast it? Really unprofessional for a fine dining place and for the prices not fresh at all and very uncomfortable atmosphere and I kinda felt like I was being judge based on my race. read more

We had reservations for 14 people, made days in advance. They had one waitress for the entire group. Service was slow at best. At one point I waited 20+ minutes for my drink to be refreshed. Almost everyone's food was cold by the time we received it. I complained to the manager, but she did not discount or give us any kind of compensation for the poor service we received. I will never return to Kathleen's with a large group of people and it is unlikely that I will give it another chance with a small group as well. read more

Went to this restaurant for the first time in a number of years. We had stopped going because the food just stopped being any good. Had heard that the chef changed, so decided to try it again. We were a party of six adults and two children. The service was fine, but food was nothing special. Of the six adults, only one had a good meal. The fish was dry. The asparagus was too under cooked. The chicken was dry and the potatoes on two dishes tasted like fish. Hm, I wonder how that happened. The most annoying piece though was the manager haggling with me over a beer. I got a draft beer, $8.00. Turns out it was the end of the keg and all they could get was a half a beer. The server brought over, told the story and asked if she could get me something else. It was the only draft I wanted, but sure, I picked another. She then said, " Do you want that one?" I assumed it was a comp as they couldn't give me what I wanted and they'd have to throw it out anyway. The bill came, $286, and the half beer was on there for $8.00. I mentioned it to the server and she said ok, I'll take care of it. She came back and said she could take $2.00 off. Really! No other customers in the place, trying to get people back into the place and you can't comp a half of beer for a customer you couldn't satisfy. Not going back any time soon. read more

Kathleen's has a very good nice location with great views of the ski hill and the golf coarse. The wait staff is one of the best around and is always very attentive to our needs. The food is good American Fare, and will not disappoint. The real draw here is when they a buffet for a special occasion such as Easter Brunch as the serve on of the best buffets around (good lamb chops on a buffet is something very special). They also have good desserts, and a decent beer and wine selection. read more

I was completely appalled by the managers actions at the restaurant tonight. We had paid our bill and were having a conversation when my 76 year old mother became ill. She couldn't get up to make it to the bathroom and began throwing up in the take out bag. The manager came up and asked if there was anything we needed and if we thought it was the food. We assured him that we didn't think so. This was when he informed us that he didn't want other customers getting sick and that we needed to leave. She had just finished vomiting and we were in the corner. The other patrons were oblivious. We were not planning to stick around. We WERE regular customers until this point. Thanks for adding to my mother's embarrassment by asking us to leave. I can't believe this is how you treat your customers!!! read more

I went here for their Sunday brunch. It was spectacular and delicious! Omelette bar, all kinds of potatoes, salmon, London broil, sausage, bacon, waffles, French toast, vegetables, fruits, green salad, potato salad, and a dessert table. It was really good. I had two plates and a plate with different desserts. I'll totally go back for this brunch buffet. It is one of the bests in the area. My friend told me the buffet is this huge only during the Holidays/Christmas time. They have a smaller version in summer. Highly recommended! Service was excellent too. read more

This is the first restaurant in 65 years that I have had to send a meal back. Ordered the filet mignon rare and it came back almost well done. Plus they gave me the wrong side dish. It was nice they gave us a nice tub of butter but I'm not sure why since unlike everyone else in the restaurant they didn't bring us any bread. The food was good once it arrived and the manager did comp us for the meal mix up wirh a free glass of wine and was apologetic which I appreciate. It took foreever ro get our bill. Our waiter didn't know if they had any sparkling wine (they don't) or what type of salad dressings they have. For a special occasion (90th birrhday) overall it was pretty disappointing. read more

Was so surprised (on a Friday evening). Dinner was in the room where they had typically served lunch in past years. Felt like I was at Bob Evans, and the waitresses behaved as such. Years ago there used to be the environment where you could be seated around the right side of reception; now, it's a cafeteria. Hardly comes close to matching what seems to be a great menu. This used to be a very good place, a nice place to go for special occasions. But then they "dumbed down" the menu, apparently trying to cater to the bar crowd. They added sandwiches and took away any kind of decent steak. The last time we were there, the service was good but the waitress even complained about the menu when we asked why it had changed so much. From the time we walked into the reception area and the chipped plaster walls in the coat room, I had my doubts about what was happening to this restaurant. We have been here in past years for receptions and birthday dinners and it was quite nice. We had to sit in the bar lounge as the dining room was closed for remodel. It was noisy and not a nice ambience as the lighting was too bright. Biggest complaint was my halibut was not halibut despite the insistence of the kitchen. They did give us a small credit on the bill as a result of my dissatisfaction. Wife's filet looked good but her sister's looked over-tenderized and was not as thick. Drinks were very good and service was great. I hope the management can get the restaurant back to its former level of excellence. We won't give up on this restaurant. read more

Love it every time! We recently went for Surf and Turf night, and the food was amazing again. We love the atmosphere, and the wait staff is very attentive. No matter how full we are, we never leave without having a delicious dessert, too. This restaurant is a family favorite of ours. read more

A few years ago this was a great fine dining establishment. I visited a few months ago and found that everything had changed... except the prices. The food is bland and pedestrian. The quit, classy ambiance was gone. The service was poor. We were virtually alone in the dining room and our server still managed to be slow and inattentive.
