The location of Castaways is excellent as it is right on the water and has both outdoor and indoor seating. The ambiance is relaxed with a nautical theme. Adam did an excellent job and he made quite a few recommendations as we were first timers. As the prices were reasonable, we started off with pretzel bites and were pleasantly surprised as they came out quickly and were delicious. My son ordered the Stromboli and wow, that thing was huge! It was delicious and there was more than enough to feed two adults. My husband had the brisket burger with waffle fries while my daughter ordered the veggie roll. Both said that their meals were amazing and that they wish we had found this place sooner. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was extremely tasty. I can't recommend this place enough! Service was great! Definitely no complaints there! The food on the otherhand was disappointing. It all just lacked flavor. I can't say it was bad per season. But it definitely would have been better had I drank more jack n coke before I ordered. Loaded tots, those were actually decent. The brisket tacos. Not so much. Actually it was the brisket in general. Smoky, but that was it and it was dry. The sauce/cream or whatever you want to call it was very similar to a watered down ranch. Some molested version of pico de Gallo that was on it as well couldn't even be tasted And once you add in the 60 minute round trip to get there, I was disappointed, and I'll drive 3 hr round trip for good food. I probably wouldn't go back if it was 5 minutes down the road. And I can't say it was bad, it just didn't taste like much of anything. read more

Great food, lovely atmosphere and friendly service. Stopped by on a Saturday around 1. It was pretty busy and full but we were told an event was going on. Even with the full house the service was quick and friendly. Hailey did a fabulous job, especially with recommendations. All our food items were delicious and the menu is extensive...we will definitely be back! Prices are average and there is plenty of parking. We ate on the patio and it was wonderful! There were definite pros and cons to our visit. We were in Bay City for a few days and wanted to grab some lunch outside where we could take our dog. Having driven by Castaways many times, we decided to give it a try. Pros: The patio is located on the river with several boat docks. The place wasn't very busy and rather than having us sit in the grass under the incredibly hot sun, they gave us a table and chairs on the patio near the edge. Perfect. The waitress came out almost immediately for drink order, filling up a water bowl for our dog, and letting him get to know her a bit. She did a great job, checking on us regularly and also adding ice to our dog's water (did I mention it was really, really hot out?). The service was outstanding. The cons: We ordered an Asian salmon dinner and a fried chicken sandwich with fries. I should have known better than to order grilled salmon at a bar, but I did it anyway. It was so far overcooked that it was almost inedible. The rice, veggies, and the chicken sandwich with fries were all good. I sent the salmon back, and asked for a piece of hand breaded fish. What I got was a chewy mess that definitely didn't seem to be 'hand breaded'. Maybe the expectations were too high but the food was rough even for bar food. Great location and a very friendly, hard-working staff. But don't go for the food. You will be disappointed. read more

Enjoyed a great lunch on the sunny patio on an afternoon visit to Bay City. Our server was super friendly and helpful, and our food came out so quickly we barely had a chance to enjoy the view before eating. Mojitos were tasty. I had the Mac and Cheese wrap, which looked like the most unique thing on the menu. It has Mac and cheese, cheese curds, fried chicken, bacon, and more cheese. I'm not sure I've ever been so close to a cheese overload in my whole life. I recommend dipping it in a little barbecue sauce to complement the cheese. I also recommend maybe not eating the whole thing at once-- I was stuffed for the rest of the day! It was delicious and unique. The rest of the menu looked good, typical bar/grill stuff with sandwiches, wraps, a few entrees and salads, and the next table over here a pizza that looked tasty. read more

It looks like a fun place to hang out in the evenings when they have a live band. And, there is a sand volleyball pit which like fun. Awesome place to grab lunch right on the water! The service was friendly and VERY fast. We just had sandwiches but I was shocked at how fast (and hot) the food was. Our lunches came with the option of house made chips or fries but we both went with the chips and they were great. Very crunchy and kettle like. It was a little slow to cash out but they were starting to get pretty busy and it looked like the girls behind the bar were taking care of the whole restaurant.
