It was Monday and the burgers were $5 it's a good thing to because I would have been upset if I paid more than that for it. The steak fries were good but everything we ate tasted like it came from Gordon's food service. The chicken tenders tasted like the oil needed changed a long time ago No baby changer in the bathroom but it was clean. I decided to stop on here after being told that they had good food. The recommendation did not disappoint. The decor is nice and the place is dimly lit, which I prefer. The first visit, I tried the blackend salmon, and it was perfect. The service was great, and the bartender and wait staff are friendly. I like it so much that I went back a second night. It got pretty loud making it very difficult to have a decent conversation. Sampler platter was good, no substitutions though. Olly burger wasn't very seasoned with their "secret seasoning" so it could have been a plain burger in my opinion. Olly fries were ok but again more seasoning would have been tastier. Great food. The kitchen here is fabulous. I got the whitefish and it was cooked perfectly. Always fresh vegetables with your meal. They have a great selection of bourbon and a very cool bartender who is very attentive and can talk on a variety of topics. It's always a go to for me. My boyfriend and I stopped in for something to eat and a drink. We sat at the bar where we had the worst service I have ever had in a bar. Her name was Sarah. Obviously clueless on how to treat customers. My boyfriend went to the bathroom and I told her he would like another beer as his was empty. She refused to bring one until HE confirmed it. Seriously? It was pretty late when I arrived on my first night in Midland. I was hungry and tired. Diamond Jim's is a very unassuming place on Main Street and it's not fancy, to be sure, but the bartender treated me like family and made me feel so welcomed! I enjoyed a glass at the bar and ended up taking a burger to go - the burger was delicious, bun toasted, fresh everything on the side. Talking to a local at the bar, I was told you can rely on Jim's for good, affordable meals on a strip downtown that's bordered by some pretty awesome, but pricey competition. I dined there a few weeks ago on a Saturday night with my father and some friends while I was in town. Growing up in a small town in Kentucky, my mom fell in love with the Kentucky Hot Brown. My father had been planning on bringing me here since June 2018 to try one, and we finally made it. I don't know much about the original other than what I looked up online, but this version was DELICIOUS! It seemed to match the recipe, and I would recommend trying one on your next visit. So me and 3 of my girlfriends had dinner and drinks in Midland last Friday. We wanted to check out the downtown/ commons area. We decided to stop into Diamond Jim's to get some to-go drinks. The bartender (Donald- son of the owner) comes, takes our orders, we get our drinks and we are on our way. My friend paid for the drinks with her card and as we left she noticed she didn't sign anything, but did get her card returned. We shrugged it off, no big deal. She was worried about not signing anything, so she kept an eye on her bank account. She saw the pending transaction from Diamond Jims for the $12 total, then once it was completed, she noticed it was for $3 more than the total was. Donald, the owner's son, took it upon himself to fill in his own tip. My friend then called the bar once she noticed this and was told the owner wasn't available... she called back, was hung up on... she called back again and spoke with the owner who's said his son, Donald, told him her husband signed the receipt and filled in the tip. Since it was a girls night, HER HUSBAND WAS NOT THERE. So not only did he steal, he's now lying about it. She decided to go to the bar and try again to straighten this out in person. She asked to see the receipt that her husband (who wasn't there) supposedly signed. They showed her the receipt and it was neither hers, or her husbands signature (which we knew because he wasn't there) they refused to give her a copy and told her "Donald makes $1,000 in receipt tips, he doesn't need your $3" and also "you got your drinks didn't you?" She then asked to see the camera footage of her signing a receipt, he said they didn't have cameras, she pointed to the camera above the bar and they told her the wires are cut. They did say they would refund her, but it was not the $3 she was concerned about. It's the fact that this bar is STEALING from people and LYING about it. If you've been there recently, check your shit. If you plan on going there, you were warned. read more

Good American restaurant. The salads are huge! They were served in 11 inch wide plate and my leftovers still filled an entire container. The food is standard American fare, burgers, salads, sandwiches. We didn't stay for the live entertainment but that they had that on a Thursday night too. We did not have a great experience at their location on Main St, but wanted to give the restaurant a try at the place. We liked the newer and brighter decor. However, the burgers were very average. The patties did not appear hand made. The server was average - the restaurant was not busy and had to request a refill. One of my favorite things about this place is the outdoor seating. Not only do you get to sit outside when the weather is nice, but the area is sort of sectioned off so you don't have to worry about pedestrian traffic. They even (generally) accommodate a large party for outdoor seating. I ordered the burger with bacon and a draft. The food came fairly quickly considering how busy the place was. By the time I left the place I was miserably full because the burger was just that good. I'm not a huge chips with restaurant food person, but hey, when in Rome. Because this place is right on the corner, you get an awesome feel for the downtown vibe. Once the street lights come on, the place becomes even more charming. Came here on a Saturday night for a couple of drinks. Service was excellent and the waitress was very pleasant and prompt. However, the owner unexpectedly started cussing out a member of our party claiming he broke something in the bathroom. He acted very inappropriately and unprofessionally yelling profanities that something was broken in the bathroom which no member of our party was responsible for. Like what?!?! The paper towel machine wasn't even broken but the cover was hanging down. The owner proceeded to continue to accuse the member of our party for breaking the paper towel machine repeatedly. Fantastic food, horrible service. I have been here several times and never have I had good service. I'm currently waiting on a burger. For over 30 minutes. Not sure why they can't get their stuff together. This would be a great place if the service was decent. Edit: Manager just came out. Informed me that it's only been 20 minutes, not 30. Food came out a few minutes later. French dip is actually a philly cheese steak, slaw burger is actually a pulled pork sandwich. Table next to us sat down, ate dinner, got boxes before we got food. This place is definitely a little dive bar and could easily be passed right by in the cute little town of Midland! But the reviews are what brought me in, so I thought I'd leave my own! Was looking forward to a nice meal with a friend and my 8 lb Shih Tzu ESA dog one evening on their outdoor patio this summer when we were asked to leave because dogs aren't allowed. I've never had a restaurant with an outdoor seating area tell me my dog was not welcome. We had already ordered beers and they wouldn't even comp us for them so we had to pay and find a new restaurant. So my wife and I went to Diamond Jim's for lunch to try their lunch buffet. When I met her she was sitting outside with two menus and her drink. I sat there with her, talking about stuff, and waited for the servers to take my drink order for about 5-8 minutes (they came out about 4 times too). Finally I decided to go in and get some food from the buffet. I saw lunch meat that looked like it'd been out for a few hours, some greasy cheese (that sat out too long), a salad bar, and some weird soup that included chili with spaghetti and cream of potato. I know it's hard to run a buffet, but come on. Why bother if you're going to throw most of it away anyway? And I seriously HOPE they threw it all away. I should also add that the inside looked terrible. Every table was dirty. The fly infested bathroom stunk of piss...I can't even imagine how bad the kitchen was. I hate to say it, but we had an awful experience here this past weekend. After taking over an hour for our food to come out, our server blamed two members of our party for not being specific when she took their order (I wasn't aware that you had to specify that you wanted chicken when ordering a chicken salad-that's like ordering a hamburger and only receiving a bun)! There were no apologies despite a clearly frustrated group. I've been to Diamond Jim's twice in the past and have never had such a negative experience. Diamond Jim's is located in downtown midland. It is hard to notice it when walking downtown but it sits quietly on main street close to Peel 'n Pare and it is right opposite to Omeletes and More. Compare to similar restaurants in Midland MI, such as Big E and Oscar, Diamond Jim's food is of much better quality and less generic. In particular their soups taste homemade and unique. Try their clam chowder, chicken tortilla soup, and chili (I have tried all these three soups and definitely can say that they are hearty). They have standard burger selection. I have confirmed that bleu cheese burger has real bleu cheese in it, melted on the burger, not just bleu cheese salad dressing. You don't get that very often in the tri-city area. Even their weekday salad bar was great. The all you can eat soup and salad bar get you the tasty five-star homemade soup that i mentioned above, get you standard salad options (i remembered romaine lettuce and all standard fixings, nothing special though - three stars on salad in the salad bar), fresh fruit (i remembered fresh pineapple and melons which were nice - four stars, and peeled tangerine was sweet), and finally the all you can eat salad bar also comes with sandwich meat and bread so you can make your own sandwich - four stars for options. Definitely worth a try if you haven't been there. Great lunch place for nearby chemical company. i hope Diamond Jim's stays in business. read more
