Walked in to this diner and seated ourselves, old school restaurant, clean and friendly employees. Our waitress took our beverage order and brought out coffees and took our order. Barely had a sip of my coffee and the turkey dinners were already out. The turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, and Cole slaw are all delicious. Bonus, you get a homemade biscuit with honey or jelly. I've heard of this place many times before but this was my first time dining here. It is truly incredible how fast the food comes out. I had barely put the straw into my iced tea when my turkey pot pie was put down in front of me. Not even McDonald's gets it that fast for heaven sake's. Our servers were very polite and accommodating. You can tell they work together as a crew and that management is involved in making sure the experience is top-notch. The decor is very much in the old-school tradition of a 1950s era restaurant. Large windows, simple tables, bright lighting. You do rather feel like you've stepped back to a simpler time when you sit down here. As I mentioned I got the turkey pot pie. The top crust was flaky and perfectly crisp. The gravy had that wonderful finish to it where it wasn't heavy, but it wasn't light either. There were ample portions of vegetables and generous cuts of meat as well. They've clearly figured out how to crank these out Quickly but make them delicious at the same time. I don't know that this would be my first choice for dinner on a future visit, but I heartily recommend it to anyone. read more

This is a quick place. Menu options are limited. I got the turkey dinner and it is defenitely enough for two meals. The stuffing is pretty mushy, but still tastes amazing. Plmashed potatoes are fine. Usually have good luck here, but last time found many bones in the shredded turkey sandwich. Looks like bones went through the turkey shredder, then into the sandwich, making it uneatable. At least they gave 50% off for the sandwich. Will avoid shredded turkey from here in the future. read more

There is a lot to like about Turkey Roost, and I am really glad I had the chance to try out this regional institution. -The turkey meat, both white and dark, is remarkably moist and tender. -The turkey gravy is blessedly a natural light color. -Food is prepared at an incredibly fast pace. -Service is friendly and responsive. -Prices are quite reasonable. But I can't get away from feeling like this is also institutional food. The turkey plate is carbs on top of carbs on top of carbs, with carbs on the side. There is plenty of fat and salt to keep it tasty, with a little shot of sugary cranberry sauce to try and bring some balance. Certainly, there is a time and a place for this. Thanksgiving is the obvious one. However, anytime one desires deep levels of comfort, Turkey Roost will more than fill the bill. But while more than filling, the lunch left me feeling the need to get some more nutrition in me. At dinner time, I was famished for something sustaining. There is also a little trick done in the plating, as the thin slices of turkey are layered upon a mountain of stuffing. It looks like a ton of meat, but its mostly bread. Perhaps I will return and try and order a half plate with double meat? And on that half plate, I may still ask for lighter helpings of stuffing and potatoes. Because while there are more carbs than I would like, even on the half plate, I'm not going to let food go to waste. Ultimately, this was a three star meal, with a bonus star added for the x-factor of nostalgia, comfort, and value. read more

Been making a special trip to go here for 50 years when I'm in the mood for a Turkey dinner. Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, vegetables and biscuits are just like mom used to make. You can get 3 size plates. Now that I'm a senior citizen I order the senior plate, plenty to fill up on. We usually bring home a piece of pie and Container of soup. Only disappointed once, when they were closed for Christmas week. Service is fast, like instant. Young folks may turn up their noses because it's packed with white haired old people. Service was fast. I got the senior portion because I don't need a full portion. For mass produced mashed potatoes they were really pretty good. The dressing could use some increased flavor like some rosemary or sage to kick up the flavor. Turkey and cranberries were tasty. I skipped eating the coleslaw and biscuit because I did not want to eat that much. Nice employees, nice experience!! Would return. Oh, got a slice of pumpkin pie. Had the best Perch dinner to be found in Bay City area last Friday, so decided to return today for the Wednesday special of Turkey Pot Pie and a classic Turkey Dinner. TR is very popular with locals and is usually hopping, but late lunch at 2:00PM was quiet. Service was exceptionally fast and friendly. Comfort food made from recipes in use since 1955, not exciting but reliably predictable, served in a clean, bright, well lit dining room that is utilitarian. Save room for dessert, you can't go wrong ordering Strawberry Shortcake piled on a fresh baked biscuit or a wedge of homemade pie. Disclaimer- would have posted more photos, but manager came by our table and berated me for taking videos or photos "and making people uncomfortable". What was that about? Bottom line- if your want a crispy Friday Fish Fry, this is the place. If you want paper thin sliced turkey with scraps of dark meat slapped on a huge pile of gooey wet stuffing reminiscent of boxed stuffing mix, topped with library paste thick yellow gravy and a thimble sized portion of cranberry and tiny side of slaw, you won't be disappointed. read more

Talk about a place that knows what it does best. A great Turkey dinner and it's quite affordable. My husband and I both had the Turkey Plate and it was delicious. Now, if you are on a Keto or Paleo diet this is not your place. Turkey served with a pile of potatoes and stuffing with a side of corn and a huge biscuit may leave those low carb folk unsatisfied.
