Just retired back to Bay City from the Army. Excited to try the Turkey Roost since we heard so much about it. Was excited to get takeout for the family of four. Was seriously disappointed and felt I wasted 45.00 that no one even ate. I'm hoping that because I ordered takeout at 7:30. I may have gotten the bottom of the barrel. Got 3 Turkey plates & one senior dinner. All of it was cold. Each plate had a small cold scoop of mashed potatoes. Expected a good portion of turkey both white and dark meat. What we received was literally a thin slice of processed turkey with minor amounts dark meat attached to a ton of stuffing. I expected bigger portions & even commented that I would need extra gravy for hot turkey sandwiches. Which the girl even got me to order two sides of gravy. I was so wrong about that, there wasn't even enough of an amount for each individual dinner. The corn was so old (brown) it looked like it was purchased from Blue Knight foods as outdated food. Hoping the restaurant will rectify this issue for me tomorrow. read more

I have been coming up to Roscommon County on hunting and camping trips since I was first born. One of the places we almost always stopped at for dinner on the way at least once was Turkey Roost. They are super quick getting your food out and overall have nice waitstaff. I don't particularly like stuffing and forgot to ask for my most recent plate without and got a bunch. Otherwise, I like their meals. A full plate fills me up. It's a family tradition to get Willams Cheese and eat here, and I love the hot pink color out front. The inside hasn't changed too much over the years. It's a Michigan classic and a place I recommend you try at least one when traveling north in Michigan. It's not super far off I-75. Thanksgiving dinner almost every day. Even had their walleye once and it was good too. Not a Turkey fan? You can get hot beef sandwiches too. And good pies. I miss their old souvenir deer hunting blaze orange hats. Lots of memories going up here, and just stopped up in Monday with my dad on our way to deer camp. Glad we did. read more

My family and I have a tradition of eating at the Turkey Roost around Thanksgiving every year. We usually have a good experience with the food and service. This year however was absolutely horrible. We had a larger group and when we went to sit down at one of the very few longer tables the staff stated that if we sat there we would be back to back with other guests of the restaurant. This was not a concern for us, and there was no where else for our large group to sit, so we continued to sit at this table. I'm not sure if this upset the servers, but we received the worst service. They brought us our food in a timely manor, but never came back to ask us if we needed anything else like desert, or if we wanted a refill on our drinks. They never even gave anyone the bill! My parents noticed that there was a bill sitting at the end of the table, but we had no idea how it arrived there. After reviewing the bill we concluded that it was ours, however they did not split the bill up like we had asked. Instead they put everyone's food on the same bill. Then when we asked if we could get separate bills they told us no. This was simply the worst service that any of us has ever received anywhere. I'm not sure what happened to the service at this restaurant, but I do not recommend going there. We all decided to go elsewhere next year. read more

What they've done with drive thru pickup is a business model to be followed. My husband and I were visiting family in Michigan. We live in San Francisco, Ca. Friends told us that Turkey Roost was a great place to dine. We sat down and we received service almost immediately. We had ordered full turkey dinners and drinks and the meals were fabulous for $14.95 a meal which included roast turkey dark and white or either one, with mashed potatoes, stuffing,, gravy, corn, cole slaw, cranberry sauce, home made biscuits. Also, the senior meal was half the cost and half the amount of food. We had a 91 year old person with us. We ordered drinks and two of our party ordered dessert. The french vanilla ice cream was delicious as was all of the food. They had homemade pies, next time we are in Michigan. Don't hesitate. It is a rare find. Thanksgiving is coming! read more

I wish the turkey was sliced a bit thicker, but overall this was a great meal! 4 stars only because while the food was good, it wasn't quite as good as the food I actually eat on Thanksgiving. Two thumbs up for the roost. So for 20 years I would stop here with family or Boy Scouts when we took a road trip or ventured to any campground North of Bay City. The Turkey Roost was always a good quick stop to fill the belly. I was recently in town after a 15 year hiatus and can tell you all the memories came rushing back to me; it was everything I expected. I was also lucky enough to be in a on Wednesday when they have Pot Pie day and boy oh boy did I gobble up one of those to go. Get it, turkey gobble. Here all week folks... I made sure to sample it on-site to experience it at its peak and the crust was buttery and flaky like no other. I warmed it up in the toaster over the next day and still amazing. Stopped into the turkey roost for a quick bite to eat as my husband loves turkey dinner. This restaurant was on an episode of UTR Michigan so it piqued my interest as well. The portions are huge, they specialize in quantity rather than quality. This is high-volume eats. I ordered a white turkey dinner which they referred to as a turkey special plate. It started off with a buttermilk biscuits with butter and honey. The main course arrived shortly shortly thereafter and included: dressing with white meat turkey mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, small portion of coleslaw and cranberry. It was way too much food for me (see accompanying picture). I'd recommend ordering the senior portion. My husband had the turkey dinner and didn't specify what type of meat his portion was slightly smaller but still a lot. I most likely will not return to this restaurant it's just not my style. I would recommend it for lots of food, big portions, quick service but not for the quality. read more

*It smells really good walking up to the place. *It has a diner atmosphere. *The menu is small with mostly variations on a plate of turkey. *Super fast and attentive service. *Good mashed potatoes and turkey. *Awesome cold slaw (wish we got more than a tiny condiment-cup worth). *Cranberry puree/mash was best on the fresh (divine) biscuits. *The cooked veggies were diced carrots that likely came out of a can and were blah, but were okay with some added butter and salt. *The dressing wasn't my style (too wet) and also needed salt. *The strawberry shortcake was enough for two and really good--almost too many strawberries and not enough biscuit. *Definitely worth a visit. read more

I've been here twice in the last 30 days after not eating here for 20+ years. Just as good, if not better... Seriously...the turkey dinner is JUST LIKE your mom would make at Thanksgiving. Instead of making Easter or Thanksgiving dinner this year, I'm calling to see if we can get takeout from the Turkey Roost. First, this place has got to be the FASTEST service ever...even faster than "fast food." Both times, we sat ourselves, the waitress was there within 30 seconds for our drinks and was back 30 seconds later. Took our order, and our food was on the table in less than 3 minutes BOTH times. I've had the Turkey Dinner (dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cole slaw, cranberry cup, green beans and biscuit) both times and my wife and daughter have had the Turkey Salad Sandwich and Turkey Club Sandwich. All three meals were great. The meals were perfect, tasty and generous portions. Both times, I've had enough leftovers for TWO meals so it's a decent value. The restaurant is clean, but won't win any 5-star restaurant awards. The serve breakfast and turkey, and that's about it. And they do it right. Nice family style atmosphere, quick to get to, friendly staff, QUICK service, and great food. What more can you want? read more

This awesome pink diner is always packed with many families to get their turkey plate, a huge plate of food with stuffing, turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, coleslaw and cranberry sauce--and don't forget that fluffy doughy delicious buttermilk biscuit with honey!
